Sam slunk down further into her arm chair and stared at the flames flickering away in front of her. Despite how much she enjoyed not having to go to a class, this was her least favourite break. Ginny was busy with Care of Magical Creatures and there were only a few other students around to keep her company, most of whom were busy studying. Sam sighed and tried to find a comfortable enough position for a nap; she was too lazy to go all the way upstairs to her bed. What with Ginny still being too shaken up from the potion to sleep through the night and her own strange dreams, Sam was desperate for a solid eight hours.
Just as she started to drift into unconsciousness, a slam from across the room startled her and she bolted forward, almost launching herself from the chair. She made sure to shoot a glare at the noise maker until he seemed properly shamed. "Hell," Sam decided sleeping wasn't going to work and was too antsy to sit around any more. Besides, classes would be changing soon and she didn't feel like chancing the odds on whether anyone would try to get details of Ginny's débâcle out of her again. Deciding it couldn't hurt to take advantage of the mid-class lull in the halls, Sam scurried up to the dorm and grabbed her guitar.
The halls, unsurprisingly, were empty. All the students were either in their classes or off in the Library of common room studying. A tiny smile lit Sam's face when she realised how rare it was she fell in with those ranks. Her mind wandered freely as her feet roamed the halls, she had no destination in particular and after a few minutes of thinking she stopped paying attention altogether. She gave her sanity a break from Ginny and thought about the dreams she'd been having the past week. Usually her dreams were ridiculous, silly things. Nonsense that could barely be interpreted or construed as anything other than, perhaps, a sign she was destined for the long term ward in Mungo's. They certainly weren't like the pattern she'd been seeing, waves and beaches, and indiscernible noises. It was always insubstantial. The worst part was she knew they were unnerving but she couldn't even describe why.
Sam stopped and looked around the corridor. It certainly wasn't one that saw regular use, the thick layer of dust on the nearby armour told her that much. She walked further down the hall, trying to count in her head just how many stairs and passages she'd go past without realising it. It had to be the fifth floor, the west wing hadn't been used for as long as she'd been in school. As far as removed locations went she probably had one of the best options right here, she decided, trying door knobs at random.
