Who: Harry Potter, Theodore Nott
When: Wednesday afternoon, between classes
Where: Loo nearest the Transfiguration classroom.
What: Scene Lottery - Harry and Theo run into problems in ze bathroom.
Rating: PG, probably
Open/Closed: Closed

Harry grumbled something under his breath as his shoulder knocked into another student's, green eyes glaring from behind his glasses before he stalked away. His shoulders and jaw were so tense they were starting to ache, and it was one more thing he was brassed off at. Hermione had the locket, now, but just carrying the thing around all the time, having it nearby - it made Harry feel. . . slimy and annoyed and miserable. He was snapping at everyone, and he knew it, but couldn't help it.

He left rather than yell at the bloke he'd knocked into, heading for the nearest loo. When he emerged from the stall, he walked over to the sink, washing his hands and then splashing water on his face, trying to snap himself out of his mood. He looked over to see Nott standing nearby, grimacing a little, but ignoring the other boy, running a hand through his ever-messy hair and then stopping, frowning and looking down at the sink, twisting the tap to shut it off again. It just kept running though, and the basin was gradually filling, as if the drain were stopped up.

It was an unreasonable assumption to make, but Harry wasn't in a reasonable frame of mind anyway. "What did you do?" he snapped at Nott.

Theo looked up around the exceptionally large toilets and nodded. "The exposure to the cold would probably kill us first." he said, unhelpfully.

He watched a small white feather eddy by his feet and then looked back up at the supposed Gryffindor hero. "Do you have anywhere to be?" he asked, apparently needlessly, twirling his hand end over end in his hand like a baton.

Harry shut his eyes. Silently counting to ten. Then twenty. "It's good that you're so positive," he finally managed. Admittedly, he sounded a bit strangled from clenching his teeth.

He looked over at Theo again, then rolled his eyes. "Not drowning. And I'm due in dorms." Where Hermione and Ron would be waiting. And probably seething over him being late.

Right. So, magic wasn't working. He turned his head, looking around. "See anything we can use to try to pry the door?" he asked doubtfully. They could transfigure something, he supposed.

Theo wondered if Harry suffered some kind of disease or something that affected his eyes, apart from the glasses he wore; he was forever rolling and closing them and all in all didn't seem very... relaxed.

Oh well.

"No." he answered, not bothering to even look, standing there with one arm crossed over his other, wand in hand like an artist deciding on where the next lick of paint should go. "But, seeing as you're in such a hurry, therefore counting out the more in-depth diagnostic spells, I was just going to blow the hinges off. But I'm happy to watch you attempt it the Muggle way, if you wanted." The most infuriating thing about the sentence was the utter lack of sarcasm in Theo's tone as he said it.

If they were going to die anyway, Harry decided that right before the water reached neck level, he was going to strangle Nott. It would make him feel better about dying.

His lips tightened and he crossed his arms over his chest. "If you think that will work any better than the Alohomora, then go right ahead," he told Theo sourly. Spells had seemed to bounce right off, but it was worth a try.

He'd have thought of that, eventually. Or so Harry told himself.

"I won't know until it's been attempted." Theo pointed out, still infuriatingly rational, and now the water was up to their ankles. He threw a few spells at the door, most of them rebounding, a couple seeping in but not appearing to do much of anything. Theo kept casting, looking thoughtful each time he did, like he was trying to work out a complicated puzzle without actually touching any of the pieces.

Harry stood back, letting Theo work without comment. As each spell failed to open the door, Harry grew more and more frustrated. As if there wasn't enough to deal with.

Finally one of the spells seemed to make the door shudder. The water had seemed to speed up, and was pooling around their knees, failing to escape beneath the door or down the drain. It was cold, too. "What was that one?" he asked quickly, lifting his wand and watching Nott so he could replicate it. At this point, he didn't care if the door went to splinters, as long as they got out.

"Mmm, I'm not sure..." Theo said, only half-concentrating. "It's like... undoing a knot.. but backwards..." he said, still casting. He worked with patience, almost as if he was unaware he was standing knee deep in water. "I think... try your Alohawotsit now." he advised, lowering his own wand.
