Who: Eloise Midgen and Megan Jones
When:
Sunday evening
Where: Hufflepuff Common Room/Girls' Dormitory
What: Megan and Eloise have some girl time before another week of classes
Rating: G
Open/Closed: Closed & Incomplete

Somehow the weekend had flown by, and Eloise felt as though she'd done nothing but classwork.

Well, perhaps that was an exaggeration.  She'd gone for a run the past few mornings, and had even done so at dawn today.  That had been a challenge, but she'd been determined to do so for almost a week and after a week of trying and failing to pull herself out of bed she could finally declare victory.

Still, even besides that, and meals, of course, Eloise looked back now and realized she'd all but avoided interacting with any of her friends or housemates.  It wasn't any of their faults.  She supposed she'd just been in one of her moods, lately, what with all the hostility still flying around about the squid debacle.  She couldn't believe people were still making a fuss, and simply avoiding any unnecessary contact for a bit eventually seemed the only solution.  So the library had been her haven for most of Saturday and nearly all of today, until she'd finally gotten fed up with that, too, and taken to roaming the grounds listlessly until it was time for supper, where she'd done her best to show an interest in what her fellow Hufflepuffs had been up to that weekend.

Belly full and feeling a bit sleepy, Eloise was now taking up space in the Hufflepuff common room, having put a swift end to an essay for Herbology and moved on to more noble tasks - that is, sewing some new buttons onto her favorite cardigan.  The old ones had been a bit too plain for her tastes, and now that the weather was swiftly cooling she wanted to make sure to have her favorite cold-weather clothing ready to be worn.  Absently humming to herself, Eloise inspected her work thus far before setting it aside to take a quick stroll around the room to keep her legs awake.

Eloise's inquiry of the occasion made Megan a bit antsy. But considering she'd recognized how awkward her initial request was the Hufflepuff quickly recomposed herself. A grin crossed her lips and she inched toward the dorm entrances.

"I'd rather we discussed it... not here," she said giving Eloise a look that she was certain the girl would pick up on as a pleading request. Though Megan's cheesy grin may have been construed as a little goofy. As she moved toward the dorms Megan quickly changed the subject and asked, "Where were you today?"

Eloise gave Megan a knowing look, but simply nodded in response to her friend's request that they wait until they were in more closed quarters to discuss the particulars of her request. As it was, Eloise knew full well what it felt like to want to keep things private, or at least just between a few people. She wasn't one to take the confidence of another lightly.

As the two girls made their way towards the dormitory, Eloise answered, "In the library, mostly...kind of pathetic. I just wanted to get all the work done that I could this weekend. But I ran at dawn today, finally. It only took me the whole month to get the self-discipline to get out of bed in time."

She gave a lightly laugh and entered the girls' dorm with a playful bound.

"You know," Megan replied, "I've been telling you you can come running with me in the mornings." Course, the seventh year kept weekends free of that stuff. Her schedule usually kept to a Monday, Wednesday, Friday run log. It was consistent and had been for a number of years now. Even if she had an inkling that Eloise preferred the alone time of a jog... she thought it necessary to remind the girl of the option.

As she placed the brown paper wrapped box on her four-poster Megan took off her jacket and plopped down on the house-elf made bed. Removing her trainers by prying them off at the heel she didn't particularly jump into the conversation she'd intended to nag Eloise about.

"Oh." Eloise replied, pausing at the foot of her own bed and leaning against it casually. "I know, I know. I really do promise, one of these days I'm going to take you up on it, Megan. I just get so used to doing it on my own schedule most of the time I don't even think to ask someone before I'm halfway through."

She grinned guiltily. "What about Wednesday, then? I'd say tomorrow but I think I need a day off. Or new trainers. But anyway this way I'll know when I get up that morning 'Eloise, you are running with Megan today' and there'll be no absent-mindedness."

Waiting for Megan to revisit the matter at hand, Eloise began to tidy her already-made bed, realized how stupid that was, and moved to re-fold her cardigan and place in in the trunk at the foot of the bed. While she was there, she began examining some of the other contents, wondering if there was anything she ought to get rid of.

"Alright then," Megan smiled as she kicked off her final shoe, "Wednesday you're in." Quickly the girl changed the subject at the mention of that particular day. "Speaking of; did you get Susan anything?" she asked a little mixed in tone about her choice. "I had Nate send me the usual chocolates and a bottle of firewhisky.... but I feel like I cheated or something."

Truth be told she and Susan weren't particularly close. Despite the popular belief that the Hufflepuffs were like one giant surrogate family - Megan knew very little of her ginger dormmate. And though the quidditch player was very insistent about getting the girl a gift...she couldn't help thinking from time to time that she should have taken the time to get her something much cooler. She could at least pretend she knew Susan better or something.

Eloise still had her back turned to Megan which, perhaps, was a good thing at that moment. Her face fell. Somehow, she had managed to completely forget that Susan's birthday was in three days' time. It wasn't that she didn't care - she liked Susan quite a bit, and given the events that had come to pass in the last year or so, Eloise felt it was extra-important to remind the girl that her friends cared about her. But the sad fact was that Eloise was notorious for just letting birthdays utterly slip her mind. Or else remember them months in advance. Just never on time.

"Bollocks." She sighed, running a hand through her hair and turning on her heel to face Megan at last. "No. I didn't!"

Eloise huffed and sat on the bed heavily. "I always do this, I swear there's something wrong with me. I can remember anything else, other dates, completely useless information, but never anyone's birthday!"

She took a moment to collect her thoughts. "Well, like you said, I've got til Wednesday. There was this pair of books she told me about, once...she didn't have copies but had gotten them out of a library once. Maybe if I owl home tonight I can get..." She trailed off, realizing that she would not be owling home for help. "I could owl Keith, maybe he won't be too busy, he could run and pick them up for me and send them by Tuesday."

As Eloise went on about how she hadn't gotten the girl anything...Megan felt slightly better about her at least remembering. It helped that she'd charmed the dates into her calendar but... really. Books!? Those were definitely way more cooler than chocolates. She wondered if anyone would get her just a card. Hmm... bullocks she should have gotten a card too!

"Well," Megan offered, "I'm sure you could ask Nate or Dad. You're practically family anyway and I doubt they'd mind. Or," she continued with a shrug, "if they don't get here on time you can give Susan the chocolates and I'll give her the firewhisky." A snort of laughter left her, "Does Susan even drink firewhisky? Does she even drink?"

"That could do, too. Any of that. Well, I'll try Keith, first, because I know your family doesn't mind but they've been so generous lately I don't want to be too much of a bother." Eloise nodded to herself, pacing nervously for a few moments.

She laughed at Megan's next comment. "I have no idea! I've never seen her that I know of, but I don't exactly follow people around so I guess I wouldn't know. Maybe she'd surprise us!"

Laughing along with Megan, Eloise slowly found herself feeling less and less like a horrible person for forgetting the impending birthday. This was going to work out fine, and if Susan didn't drink after all, maybe the rest of the house could have a celebratory drink in her honor.

"But." Eloise suddenly sounded very serious, though a smile still played on her lips and her eyes were bright. "Megan Jones. I think we came up here to help you with some wardrobe matters?" Not wanting to alarm her friend with the change of subject, Eloise continued. "I've been trying to figure out my clothing, too, now it's getting colder."

At that Megan had narrowed her eyes at the girl in mock suspicion adding on a smirk for good measure. She'd been reminded of the silliness she'd portrayed downstairs. And in all actuality - Megan didn't really need clothing advice just... well okay.

With an overdramatic sigh the Hufflepuff let her arms dangle at her sighs as her shoulders slouched. Her head toward the ceiling she asked, "Do I look stupid? Because I definitely felt it walking over there." A pout followed as she flung herself on her back relying on the cushion of her bed to break the fall. "I didn't even make it down the proper corridor."

By over there, Megan meant a particular professor's office. She'd been rather ... enamoured with one of the the newer additions to the staff as of late. And she had intended on speaking with him this evening. She assumed Eloise was already aware of her plan having discussed it with the girl and Kinsey the night before.

Eloise smirked a bit but quickly tried to resume a more solemn expression - this only resulted in her looking incredulous.

"You really started down there, didn't you!" she said emphatically. While she'd certainly been listening to what Megan had said last night, part of Eloise had just written it off as the silly scheme of someone with a crush. She recalled similar plots five years ago, when Professor Lockhart had the majority of the female population of Hogwarts swooning in the halls. Admittedly, the professor now in question was rather fanciable, but at the same time, she couldn't help remembering that she had been attending school with several of his siblings for the past few years. It was a matter that made him, to Eloise anyway, seem both more and less accessible.

"You look fine, but..what, did you get lost or something?"

"No..." Megan explained to the overhead drapery of her four-poster with a near pathetic self-annoyance. "I made it to the proper corridor - but completely chickened out and kept walking...right past his office." She made a hand motion in demonstration.

The arm dropped dramatically as she continued, "Then just as I considered going back to try again...an owl delivered the package and now... I'm here."

It was silly really...and she knew it. Professor Weasley was an extremely fit man and she was more than aware that there was no chance in hell anything remotely scandalous could happen. But, honestly, the opportunity and challenge that comes with getting an out of lesson glimpse at his handsome face....totally worth it. %Pr

"Ohh, Megan." Eloise said, a sympathetic tone in her voice. Such a course of action had never occurred to Eloise before, over years of crushes of varying degrees, and especially if it involved a figure of authority.

She strode over to Megan's bed and sat down beside her, nudging her in the side playfully. "What were you going to say, anyway? You could always just do it tomorrow."

Megan smiled up at her friend not as upset as her overacted tone had let on. "You don't get it," she explained with a grin. "This is just....for fun. Who cares what I was going to say...the point was I was making the effort to see his face outside of the classroom."

The Hufflepuff had never been the sort to let the opposite gender affect her every day life or mood. This was another one of her petty pastimes that had no real substance other than to prove that she could act like a normal person around the man without staring at him like she occasionally caught herself doing in lessons.

"Plus," she added to the thought with a devilish smile. "How brilliant would it be if I just so happened to knock on his door in the middle of some sort of in-office workout." She snorted in amusement - her hands went to mimic his sillouette as she continued. "And there he was shirtless and glistening in fantastic beads of sweat! With battle scars and....tatoos or something." Her arms fell to her sides again and she let out a sigh, "I bet he's gorgeous under those robes."

At the thought of her professor in such a state, Eloise blushed brightly, but not before she utterly lost it laughing. She fell back onto the bed, shaking with a fit of giggles that she knew full well were ridiculous. What was she, thirteen-years-old? "Oh God, Megan!"

A few moments passed before she was able to settle herself enough to sit up straight and look at her friend. Still grinning stupidly, and wiping away a tear or two, she sighed. "Now that image is burnt into my mind, do you know that?"

Admittedly, maybe not such a bad image. But still. Class tomorrow was going to be interesting. "But yes..." she conceded, "he's fit for sure. We should definitely have more professors with his...qualifications."

Megan had partaken in the laughing session. If only because it was devilishly FANTASTIC to think about the varying scenarios that could follow after the mortal Adonis that is Professor Charlie Weasley...opening the door in such a fashion. It'd obviously be something in a girlish fantasy... but who cared!? It was a brilliant image all the same.

A burst of laughter followed at the idea of teaching qualifications that involved being eye candy for the student population. "That'd be brilliant! Though...I suppose the fact that we at least got one good looking bloke in all our years here is a fair trade."

"Well, I don't know what you thought of him, but Professor Lockhart was quite good-looking. But yes..other than him, there's been a great lack."

Eloise wasn't about to bring up the fact that she'd found Professor Lupin oddly attractive as well. She'd thought he'd seemed rather tragic and mysterious, somehow, even though in class he was perfectly kind and very interesting. Of course, that had been before she found out about what he was, and then it all made sense. Best to stick with conventional answers right now.

"I wonder if Professor Weasley has a girlfriend? He'd probably be too busy for one, with his previous job," she speculated. "Hey, so, did you really want an opinion on an outfit for your next brave attempt, or was that just a cover?"
