Who: Roger Davies & Angelina Johnson
When: 4th August, 1997
Where: London
What: Roger and Angelina go out for a pint, except he uses his ninja skills to make it into dinner as well.
Rating: PG-13

Roger had sent her an owl earlier that day giving Angelina directions to the a little sushi bar in Muggle London. Being that they were two Quidditch players on well known teams, he was reluctant to go out to any of the regular places in the wizarding world in case they drew attention.

But among the Muggles? No one would recognize them. They were just two 'Muggles' among the crowds and, sometimes, Roger could really appreciate the relative quiet that Muggle London could offer.

He had no illusions about tonight. This was no date and it would probably turn out to be nothing more than what she had said - drinks. However, he was still quite capable of having a decent conversation with a bird he knew he wasn't going to sleep with and Angelina had always been easy on the eyes. This was hardly going to be a chore and, no doubt, their bantering would be amusing as always.

He was running late because he couldn't find any of his jackets before remembering he had moved them into a storage bin. By the time he dug one out, put it on, and left for the sushi bar, he was already ten minutes late. Roger didn't see her until 15 minutes after he said he would show up - looking a little winded from running the distance between the bar and his Apparation point.

"Sorry," he said, running a hand over the back of his head with a grin. "I was sure you were going to be gone by the time I got here."

Angelina looked around as she made her way from an apparition point to the restaurant. She was rather fond of muggle London. Bridges collapsed. Freak hurricanes. Whatever was going on in their world had leaked into the muggle one, but they didn't really feel the danger. Walking down the street in muggle London didn't make her hair stand on end.

Angelina looked down at the parchment with Roger's scribbled down and eyed the sushi bar a bit strangely for a minute. She scoffed and gave a slight chuckle, shaking her head as she stuffed the paper back into her bag. "That prat." She couldn't help but be slightly impressed.

Angelina wasn't entirely sure how she'd gone from jokingly asking the he buy her a drink to "Dress up. I'm not wasting you on the Leaky or Three Broomsticks." to dinner, but here she was dressed up (granted not to what she considered the nines or anything) and now waiting. Sure she'd been a few minutes early, but just a couple of minutes before he finally showed up she was tapping her fingers on the table and telling herself that if he didn't show in five minutes she was out.

Sure enough he showed up just under the wire. "Slick, Davies." She said, mostly in regards to sneaking dinner, but partly to him showing up couple minutes under her time limit. "You might owe me two pints now for keeping me waiting."

It was hard not to hear about everything that was going on in London, but what did you expect one to do? Cower in their flats, waiting for it all to pass? No, Roger Davies wasn't a Gryffindor, but he wasn't willing to let his life come to a standstill because what he suspected to be increased Death Eater activity.

Maybe suspected was too soft of a word. You had to be a fool or in outright denial to not know that whatever was going on...Harry Potter had been right. You-Know-Who was back.

Sliding into the seat opposite of her, he gave her a grin and flagged down one of the waitstaff as he gave her a look over. "I'll buy you three just for being so gorgeous." He was mildly surprised to not hear her complaining that this place certainly wasn't just a bar, but only mildly. It wasn't that far of a leap to make drinks into dinner in a place like this without too much fuss.

Roger wasn't a Ravenclaw for no reason.

Giving the waitress that had come to their table his drink order, he leaned back to see if she would know what to order in a Muggle place. In all their enlightening conversations, he couldn't recall if ever said she was Muggleborn, Pureblood, or even Halfblood. Obviously she knew how to navigate Muggle London, but that could have been for any number of reasons and being knowledgeable of the wizarding world meant nothing if you've been living in it for eight years.

No, life shouldn't come to a standstill. That was just saying that you were giving. You were letting the idiots and the bastards win. Angelina did not play that game. No, sir. It just seemed like loads of other people chose to considering the fact that Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley were doing their best impressions of muggle ghost towns these days.

But Angelina wouldn't complain about a night out, and she was fairly easy going about quick changes in plans. Besides she shouldn't be surprised. Telling a girl to dress up, usually meant you wouldn't end up swigging a pint at a sports bar. So no, not a complainer. (Although sometimes when Gwenog got in her one of her moods she'd complain. She matched his smile. "Well don't you know how to be flattering." She said sounding a bit amused at him compliment which she took as a come on besides he wasn't looking so shabby himself. "Your mum obviously taught you right."

Enlightening conversations about how awesome they were, no it wouldn't come up. But she too ordered a drink. There were random muggles and muggleborns peppered through out her family, and Angelina liked running around in muggle areas. She thought it was an adventure growing up. Although no one was getting her in a car. EVER. She let her eyes flicker down to a menu for a second. "How are you Davies? Training not getter the better of you, I hope."

It was sad that people would let themselves be cowed into their homes and let the terror go on around them without acknowledgment or lifting a finger to help against it. But he was just as sad because while he was still willing to go out, he was hardly willing to help. Not yet, not in any kind 'take charge, go in headstrong' sort of way. No, he would leave that to the Boy That Lived.

"Mum didn't raise an impolite fool," Roger said, leaning forward as he drank in the sight of her. Angelina Johnson could be a dangerous woman, as she was a triple threat - beautiful, intelligent, and outspoken. Yet, that's what drew him to the women he chased after. Except for Cho, but she was a whole different story.

His fingers drifted over his left eye, where a Bludger had gotten him earlier that day during practice. "Well, it's nothing I can't handle," he boasted, winking at her with the very same eye. The bruise around it was nearly healed, as he had been tended to right after practice. He refused to let the game stop on his account because you didn't get time outs to treat a boo boo during real Quidditch. "How are those Harpies of yours? Should we expect any competition from you lot?" He asked, as their waitress brought them their drinks.

Angelina just sometimes felt like, even if she was still living her life, she was sitting around waiting for things to happen. It was infuriating. But what the hell was she going to do? She was a bleeding quidditch player. It was her major talent.

"Smart and polite then." She said, even if polite wasn't the perfect word to describe him since he could be egotistical, majorly so at that. "You should watch that. It'll make certain girls go all weak in the knees." No doubt that's what he was going for at all times.

She actually appraised the faint mark on his eye when he pointed it out. "That'll heal up right fast. There was probably some bird handy to kiss it better later, right?" Merlin this could turn into Quidditch battle scar conversation so easily. She had a few of those stories. Including one she thought was funny with her ending up tangled in a rose thorn bush. "More than you can handle probably to be honest."

He was plenty polite! Roger was more than overly complimentary about himself, sure, but he didn't stop the compliments at just him. He had more than enough to give to others and Angelina had more than her fair share.

"What makes you think that isn't my intention?" He questioned, lifting his drink to his lips and tipping it back. But he let that slide away in favour of Quidditch talk.

The two of them had been rival captains in their last year at Hogwarts and he had since learned not take anything she said about Quidditch seriously. Rivals then, rivals now, he knew she wasn't going to give him any sort of useful information. "Is that jealousy I hear?" He questioned, the corners of his eyes crinkling as his smile grew. "You could be the very bird to kiss it better, if you so desired."

She made a slight gesture as if to say "cheers" with her own glass. "Well then to the best of intentions, eh, mate." She said before taking a drink. Angelina had been rather fond of Roger. He was good eye candy, and while they'd been rivals as captains their last years (Umbridge terrorizing her team not withstanding), Roger always played fair. It wasn't like she had to worry about her teammates getting hexed around Ravenclaws or Hufflepuffs. She just felt like he needed someone to kick that ego into gear sometimes.

She couldn't help but roll her eyes even if she, too, was smiling. "No, we've both gotten it worse. You'll be fine without my interfering. But someday if you get hurt more than a bruise I might be tempted. Because I'm nice." She'd seen Roger on the pitch he was talented enough to dodge most ANYTHING that came up on him on the pitch.

"It's because you want to," he accused, though his grin grew wide at that. Pft. She could claim otherwise, but he really knew she would have kissed him if it wasn't for the fact that it was likely he would bring it up in every conversation they ever had afterward. It was okay, because he was content with the knowledge that he was a kissable kind of bloke even if she wasn't quite so willing to kiss him right then. Just like Cho, he was determined to make her see the error of her ways and come around to the wonderfulness that is Roger Davies.

Setting his drink down, he leaned back comfortably in his chair as he crossed his arms over his chest and stroked his chin as if in contemplation. "You know what I think? Fred and George had the right idea about making a Women of Quidditch calendar. You could be Miss December. You'd look fetching in Mrs. Claus outfit." Cut to leave nothing to the imagination, of course.

Well that was party true. She'd agreed to have a drink with him, and he had brought it up to Katie, Alicia, and the twins. So yeah, she was pretty sure any snogging would be brought up all the time (not that he'd have anything bad to say about such a thing), but she wasn't averse to him trying. "You really shouldn't mistake politeness for desire. It just might get you trouble one day." She shook her head with a laugh, smiling rather brilliantly. She held up her index and middle finger, laid a quick, smacking kiss on the pads before leaning forward and hitting him lightly above his eye with them. "Settled then?" She doubted it.

"A Mrs. Claus outfit with barely any material I'm assuming?" She asked knowing the answer. The waitress came back by, and Angelina has already picked what she wanted when she was waiting. After making sure he was reading to order and telling the waitress what they wanted, she looked back at him as if she hadn't missed a beat. "Tell me. Are you almost naked in this Men of Quidditch calendar, and if not, why should I?"

She left him with a tinge of warmth blossoming around his eye as she pulled her fingers away. Roger managed to suppress the urge to grab her fingers and pull them back, because he didn't want to push his luck quite yet. "Hardly, love, but we can settle it later." It was very likely he was going to get somewhat drunk and end up alone that night...but nope, he still didn't have any expectations that night. It was easier to not be disappointed that way, was his way of thought.

But that wouldn't stop him from trying to get into her pants. She was right fit and he would have been insane to ever stop trying for as long as she seemed willing to indulge him. He was a Ravenclaw, so he knew he wasn't just imagining that she seemed a tiny bit interested in him as well. Would she have been there otherwise?

"Why Angelina," he said, looking somewhat scandalized when he wasn't in the least. "It would be a tasteful shoot. Nothing like what they did with us Men of Quidditch." He wasn't naked in it because it was always good to leave a little to the imagination, but he wasn't exactly covered from head to toe in Quidditch robes. Key articles of clothing had been missing and only a well placed Quaffle had been the only thing to keep him decent. "You'll just have to buy the calendar to find out," he said with a wink. "I'll personally come by to sign it at your place, if you like."

His Ravenclaw astuteness was not that far off. She was interested. If pressed she'd say she wasn't. If Katie or Ali pressed, she'd say mildly. He was good looking, interesting, and could be charming. What wasn't there to be interested in. Besides... Angelina really did not like boring people, and Roger was the opposite of boring.

She smiled at him looking oh so scandalized. "So many people have thrown that word around lately it's lost all meaning." Or that just really could be when Fred and George started saying it. "So yours wasn't tasteful?" She asked attempting to sound curious. "Might have to pick it up just see the damage. Hopefully it's not traumatizing." She knew it wasn't. Merlin, she loved good eye candy. "I'd keep it always. I'll get it imprinted on the top of a cake when everyone's all old a grey."

Roger was exactly the opposite of boring. He chose some kind of goal and made a point to go beyond it. He wanted to be apart of the Quidditch team...and he made Captain eventually. He wanted to date the prettiest girl in the school (got told no by Cho) and ended up going to the Yule Ball with a half-Veela. He refused to play reserves for too long and eventually was able to try out for a starting position with the Tutshill Tornados.

The point was, he was pretty damn extraordinary and had no sense of modesty when it came to it.

"Traumatizing? Only if you can't handle how good we look in it. Or somehow become blind before you can get a chance to look at it," he said, leaning back in his seat with a laugh. "C'mon Johnson. Just admit you want to buy it because you're just as appreciate of a good body as any other person. I won't tease you for it."

She sometimes wondered if he was just spoiled by lucky circumstances. Then again what was life without lucky and unlucky circumstances. After all she might have still been on the reserve bench if Gloria McGinty hadn't gotten herself knocked up a few months ago.

But no he wasn't. They were a bit alike in that regard. She'd made Captain as well, and while Gloria's pregnancy was lucky, she had beat out the other reserves for that spot. Including one that had been with that team for a while. Of course Nicole now hated her for it, but what did Angelina care really? She was awesome. It wasn't her fault she was. She just was.

She brought her glass up for a sip and laughed. "You got me. Quidditch players, Quidditch players with strategic pieces of clothing just get to me." She said, making a great deal of commotion out of the fact that she was looking him over as she leaned forward. "Or you know Quidditch players in general." But then her demeanor changed suddenly. Smiling brightly, a smile usually reserved for twin-induced craziness, she leaned back. "Might have to skip August though. Heard that bloke's head doesn't even fit on the bloody page. Can you believe it?"

Roger certainly had an ego when it came to his intelligence, his looks, and his skills, but he thought it was well deserved. Many people have tried to deflate it over the years, but he refused to let it die too easily. Without that ego, he wouldn't be the same Roger Davies and wouldn't that just be a damn shame?

Having leaned in when she had, he didn't let her pull away too easily, by reaching out and holding her chin. If the table had been any bigger than it was, it would have been more difficult to do, but there he was, holding her chin in his hand. Gently, he turned it to one side and then the other, examining it closely.

Then he smirked and let go. "Well, you don't look insane, but I suppose the insane don't always have to look the part. Because anyone with a remote sense of sanity wouldn't dare skip August. Heard the bloke was the best shoot out of the whole lot of them." Okay, so holding her chin had been a cheap excuse to touch her. Whatever worked, right?

It actually would be a shame. Angelina rather enjoyed him the way he was at least he was fun and good natured enough, and Angelina tended to find him at the very least entertaining.

And at the most completely and utterly surprising. Like right now when he touched her, which really wasn't something she'd been expecting. And damn if that one motion didn't made her a bit tongue-tied. (Though she'd say it was due to surprise.) When he let go she fought an urge to touch her chin after him.

"The real way to tell is to see if someone has crazy eyes." She said with a laugh, after she just blinked for a few seconds. "But I assure you, I'm perfectly sane. So maybe just a peak. A little one."

Roger looked a little smug because how many people could say that they manged to shock Angelina Johnson long enough to be quiet for this long? Sure, it was only a few seconds, but he could count them on two hands and that was something to be smug over.

"I don't know," he said, pretending to look unconvinced. "I can't tell if you're really mad or not from all the way over here." Yes, any excuse to get closer was a good excuse indeed.

It had been awhile since anyone aside from Cho had really interested him enough to go chasing after them, but Angelina had managed it. It was easy to see why - she liked Quidditch, she had a winning face and body combination, and she was feisty. A challenge had never failed to entice Roger, who had most things handed to him as he had grown up.

She should have known that smug look of his was going to crop up on his face. She'd noticed it. It wasn't like it was unnoticable by any means, but she didn't miss a beat. She acted like she hadn't noticed.

She leaned her chin on her fist on the table. "Why Roger Davies are you looking for some excuse to stare into my eyes?" She said joking. Because of all romance cliches that was beyond a doubt the creepiest one. All that gazing, just thinking about it actually, made her uncomfortable.

"They're rather lovely eyes," Roger pointed out, because while he wasn't one for staring soulfully into someone's eyes, he was rather fond of getting close enough to a bird so that he may sneak her a quick kiss. So if he had to indulge a little romantic cliché to get closer? He would.

He shifted around, so that he had angled himself even closer to her. Leaning forward, he brushed the shell of her ear as he whispered, "But I honestly think your smile is your best feature." Yes, Roger knew how to lay on the charm thickly and exactly how much he would be appreciated in someone else's personal space.

In this situation, he thought that the answer was 'Very much so, please and thank you!' He may have not been a Veela - or even half-Veela as Fleur was, but he had perfected his technique down to an art form.

Alright so Angelina could admit (at least to herself) when she'd been out flirted. It hadn't been what he said, but more how he said it. After all, she'd been told before that her smile was her best feature, and Angelina tended to always have one on her face. That was how she was.

Oh, and Roger was good. He knew that much, but with him that close the urge to just turn her head that little bit was really hard to suppress. Instead she sat back, biting her lip softly. "Merlin, you are good." She said small smile playing across her face. "Looks like I may just have my hands full here."

Pulling away so that he could look at her without going cross eyed from the proximity, he smirked. "If you liked that, imagine what I could do somewhere more private." Roger talked big, but he was one of those guys with the ability to back up the talk. For some reason, Angelina was recently flying into his radar more often than not and he was going to do something about it.

Getting her to agree to drinks had been easy, since she had made the suggestion. Turning it into dinner had been almost easier. But getting her into bed with him? That was going to be a challenge and he enjoyed those.

He put a respectable distance between them when the waitress returned with their orders and he thanked her, momentarily distracted by her stunning features. He knew Cho was Chinese, but she had the same straight black hair as this woman did and he couldn't help but pay her a compliment before she left - "Your hair is stunning. I bet it's soft as it looks." - blushing.

"And I believe that." She said smiling again. "With the way you talk, if you couldn't deliver some girl would've piped up by now with a, 'What the hell wanker? We had sex for two minutes, and you cried for 45 minutes after.'" She pointed out. And hey, no one had complained about her ever like that either. But then again she packed a hell of a punch.

But yes a challenge, and it would be a hell of a one too. Angelina wasn't exactly difficult to get or anything, but there was something about Roger that made her want to really make him work for anything. Mostly because she knew it'd get brought up all the time.

She thanked the waitress and looked down at her food for a second before picking up chopsticks. She set them down again and looked at Roger strangely when she heard Roger's compliment to the waitress, and she took off. Really, she was sitting here and he had the urge to hit on the waitress for a second? "Soft as it looks?" She questioned. "A bit cliche."

"But the truth," Roger said, looking after the waitress with a lingering look before turning back to Angelina and their dinners. He gave her a brilliant smile, as if he hadn't just been checking out their waitress and had eyes only for her.

Though, honestly, this was the kind of behaviour one would expect from Roger after getting to know him. He had a thing for Cho Chang like no one's business and even though he didn't say it, it was obvious in the way he looked after anyone that remotely looked like her, if the observer knew what to look for. No one turned him down that many times and get rid of him that easily. He was persistent, if nothing else.

"She has nothing on your eyes though. I should thank your parents for giving you such a great set." That wasn't the only great set of assets she had, but it wouldn't have been polite to point that out.
