Who: Rhydian Oakby & Fergus O'Rourke
What: Wimbourne @ Montrose
Where: Wherever Montrose plays!
When: Backdated to Sunday, Dec. 5th.
Warnings: Probably some profanity.

The weather was starting to get a little cold for his liking, but it wasn't like Rhydian didn't know how to warm himself up right. Standing about in a stadium could be a very chilly business, but it was nothing a pair of mittens (red, bright and festive, naturally) and a beer and a hip flask couldn't fix. Jumping up in his seat helped quite a bit, too, and happily he'd had plenty of cause for that tonight. Maybe he should have come to the match conflicted, seeing as he was seeing - sort of seeing? - the opposing Seeker, but ... no, it wasn't enough. No one would expect him to toss out his loyalties on the strength of anything less than a life debt.

He clapped to warm his hands, then reached into his jacket to pull out the whiskey, take a swig and hand it off. "Now if they'd just fucking score," he muttered, before cupping his hands around his mouth and shouting same for all to hear. He turned to give a mild glare to Fergus, who Rhydian thought could probably have shown a little more enthusiasm. "Well? What do you think?" Not about his team, obviously.

"For the Wasps, maybe," Fergus said with a snort, and a smile, taking out his own flask again and opening it to take another swallow - it served a purpose other than drinking, today. Fecking December cold.

"Hope he shags better than he flies..." Fergus might have forgotten which team he was pretending to root for here today.

"For anyone - not that I'd expect you to appreciate the subtleties, the way that mob you call a team assaults the field. And a gentleman doesn't kiss and tell, not that I'd expect you to know that, either." And not that he'd kissed anyone, but he sure as hell wouldn't be going into those details. "I thought you were supporting Montrose. Fickle, aren't you? Jealous?" He swayed closer, slammed into his side, and pantomimed a kiss to his cheek that might have landed had he not been so intent on knocking him down.

"Not fickle, they're not my team 'cept for the days they're going to kick your team's arse..." Fergus took another drink, shoving Rhydian off of his side and into the person on the other side of him, which made him laugh - and made that bloke look quite rightfully annoyed.

"Hah. Loyal in opposition, at least -" Rhydian broke off when he found himself closer than he had meant to be with the man standing to his other side, and stopped for a moment to give him a sheepish grin as he straightened his jacket ... and glanced a little sadly down at the beer on the floor. He held up his empty glass to Fergus. "I'll be needing a refill, now."

"Oh shut up and watch the game," Fergus rolled his eyes. "Poncy baby." He looked like he felt bad, though. Spilling a man's beer was crossing a line.

"Hard to watch when you're being shoved all over the place." But he was willing to make an effort, so long as he was properly compensated. He handed Fergus his empty cup. "I'll tell you if you miss anything."

Fergus looked at the empty cup, then looked at Rhydian in a way that said very clearly that he thought his best mate had lost his mind. Feeling sorry was one thing, giving up his seat to get someone else a beer was another.

Except in his disbelief, he drained the last of his cup, too, and then grudgingly stood up, because he'd have to go and get his own anyway. "Tell me if your boyfriend stops being scared of the bludgers long enough to see the snitch, yeah?"

"And get yourself something, too," Rhydian added with cheerful dose of sarcasm as Fergus was standing. "You'd better be back before someone does. How often do you get to rub it in my face no matter who wins?" That, and he didn't fancy the thought of trying to find Fergus in the rush of people leaving the stadium, should the game end abruptly.

"Bullshit, you get the good end of it whoever wins this time," Fergus groused - starting down the stands. It was true, though, if the Wasps won he got to gloat about his team, if Montrose won it was his new shag buddy who got the win for them.

Rhydian should probably have felt a little bad for letting Fergus think he was actually sleeping with the Montrose seeker, but ... he didn't think he'd actually led him on, and his conscience didn't trouble him for long. He was getting more beer, and he did have something to look forward to in either case. It was hard to feel troubled.

It took half an hour or so for Fergus to make his way back - the queue had been long, but he'd also stopped to chat up a pretty witch who'd been buying a Montrose souvenir broom at the stand. He handed Rhydian his beer first off, and then sat back down, looking to the score board. "Who scored?"

"Number twelve," he replied, flush from the cold and from cheering and quite ready to sit down and tuck into his replacement drink. "Not that ten points in half an hour is anything to scream about, but ... we might just pull this one off, eventually. Lost your way, did you? Welcome back."

"This has got to be the slowest game in the history of Quidditch," Fergus answered with a snort, taking a drink and seeking out the Seekers on the pitch. They were both just sitting there... "I should have talked to that bird longer."

"That was the Arrows and the Vultures in '32, actually." Irritating statistics were so much more fun when he was pretty sure everyone already knew them. But it was a bit slow. They could at least have been trying to chase the thing around. "You probably should have. I'm always telling you to talk to people longer before you run off with them."

"Are you sure it was '32? I thought it was '33?" Fergus shrugged, but also thought he was very right, and drained about half of his beer in one go before some of it sloshed out as he was to his feet again - "There he goes," he said, which was a useless sort of statement, since obviously his mate could see both seekers diving again. This time, though, Fergus thought he saw gold.

"No, it was definitely '32." He wasn't entirely sure, but didn't mind arguing over niggling points of fact. "I'll bet you anything. I think you're -"

He broke off to watch; it did look a bit more urgent this time, and no, there was nothing fake about that swoop at all - it was a little disappointing to think it could end so ignominiously for Montrose, but ... even now, it was hard to care too much. Some twenty seconds later, it was over, and he was leaping up to cheer regardless.

"Fuck!" Fergus raised two fingers toward the players, then finished his drink in a huff of mumbled curses. "I hope he's better in bed than he is on a broom," He told his mate.

"Keep your voice down," Rhydian snapped, although his grin probably took some of the bite out of it. "There's no shame in losing to the best. I thought you already knew that - how do you keep going, otherwise?"

Fergus only laughed - not really caring if anyone around had heard, though he'd feel like a shit about it if it ended up in the gossip rags tomorrow. Not that he'd apologize, but still. "I wouldn't care if the both of them fumbled right out of the league."

"Of course you wouldn't. Leaves fewer solid line-ups for your shambles of an offense to go up against." Rhydian sniffed, shaking his flask. Not much left. "But you shan't be so lucky. I'm saying you're for it, next time."

"That's shit and you know it because we're playing..." He made a vague gesture toward the field, where the Montrose players were congratulating the Wasps. "It'll be the easiest game they play all ... wait, no, next to the Cannons it'll be the easiest all season."

"You're blind, you know. That's your problem - too loyal by half. I sympathize. There are worse troubles to have." He threw his arm around Fergus' shoulders as they trudged up the steps toward the exit in the crowd. "But there's no hope for the Cannons, no. Poor bastards."

"I'm blind? You're the one betting against the bloke you're shagging. Seems like a sure way to end up alone in bed this weekend," He laughed, and took another pull off his flask, then pushed it toward Rhydian because he'd seen him shake his like it was empty. "When you start looking at me sideways, I'll know I was right."

"I'm not -" His complaint was postponed for a minute as he took a drink, nodding his thanks before crossing his arms tightly over his chest again. "You'll know, will you? You're a mind-reader, now? Impressive. Where'd you learn?"

"Well, because when you're hard up enough to start hitting on me again - " Which had never happened in the first place, but Fergus liked to pretend it had and leave it up for mockery. "Seriously though, you should go and give him your condolences. See if you can't get in a comfort shag in the Quidditch showers."

"That'll be a sad day, indeed. I'll let you know. But I'm not going to shag anyone in a locker room." He made a face. "And neither is he." He had quite a bit of confidence in that, whether he had reason to or not. "Besides," he said, grinning and remembering that they'd won, "I'd be shit at consoling him just at the moment."

"That's exactly what it means." He'd write Lennox later - or see him, even better. He could probably find it in him to be decent about the game, if only because Lennox seemed such a decent sort himself. "And you can have one, too, for being such an excellent sport." He made a face at him.
