"Fergus," he offered, taking her hand and then bringing it to his lips to kiss her knuckles instead of shaking it. He smiled at her above it, eyes wrinkling at the edges, and then he lowered her hand and gave her a shrug. "Smart mum, but I wouldn't say we're strangers.
