empty journal ([info]fameandglory) wrote in [info]wished,
@ 2010-09-14 20:35:00

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Marcus Flint and Susan Bones
When: Tuesday early evening
Where: Apothecary
What: Marcus, freaking out over various things, stops in with a favor to ask.
Rating: TBD
Open/Closed: Open to Susan Bones

He has a sweet tooth and this is why the quill he scribbles replies to Delaney with happens to be a Sugarquill that's nearly at the nub. Good. He can't write anymore, well, not until he buys more quills and whether they're Sugar or not he has to make a trip to Diagon Alley.

His heart pounds, his stomach churns. Maybe he should actually eat something but he feels like his stomach might reject anything more than the quills so he says, 'fuck it,' and tucks that journal under his arm as he heads to the floo. As he steps up to the mantle he hesitates then grabs at his goggles and shoves them into his robes. The moment he shows up in the Leaky Cauldron he knows though that he isn't going to the candy shop or even to the ink and quill store.

He heads straight to the apothecary and pauses before the door, takes a deep breath and slips in.

"Susan?"

Was it pitiful that all of Susan's friends knew that the one place to go looking for her was at the Apothecary? Currently, she stood in the labyrinth of potted plants in the greenhouse which was in the back portion of the apothecary. Whenever she was overly stressed that was where she placed herself. It was the same way through Hogwarts, Susan felt most comfortable around plants. Placing herself amongst plants that wouldn't talk back, and instead gave off fragrances that tickled her nose and leaves that brushed against her cheeks. Fingers were covered in dirty, and a few smudges were across her cheeks as her wand was in one hand, and a pair of sharp blades were in the other.

Red hair was pulled back from her face, as green eyes watched as the leaves of the plant she was working on began to flutter. Smiling gently, fingers ran over the Flutterby bush, before her attention was immediately pulled away from the plant towards the front of the apothecary. At the sound of her name, she frowned slightly. She wasn't expecting anyone, was she? Placing the clippers on the table, she snatched up a dirty rag and pocketed her wand. She wasn't even dressed to see anyone. A pair of denim shorts that looked like they used to be pants at one time or another hung off her slender hips, as a pale yellow shirt hugged her upper body. Remarkably, her clothing wasn't stained thanks to a few stain repellent charms to make sure her clothes stayed cleaned. Her hands, though, were covered in dirt, and could definitely benefit from a good wash.

Pushing open the door to step into the shop, she ended up behind the counter. Gaze quickly found the person who was calling out for her. A tiny smile twitched at the corner of her lips, "Hello, Marcus."

Did he say he was going to stop by? Susan knew she invited him to come by, but she couldn't recall if he said he would stop by or not. A few auburn strands fell in her gaze, and she was quick to brush them back, only to smudge some dirt across her forehead. Ugh, hopefully Marcus wasn't scared of dirt.

He's not a patient man but he does wait for her. Waits a good minute before he gets the urge to peek into his journal again, even though he knows it won't be good. The conversation between himself and Delaney has gotten hot, too hot for him to handle. It makes him want to curse and scream and... just as Susan comes into view he reads what Delaney posts about names.

Oliver.

REALLY?

He is distracted momentarily when she nears. His heart skips a beat. He's never thought highly of working class witches but Holy Helga she looks good enough to..

"Can I borrow a quill? I mean, sorry, fuck I just.. need a quill, real quick?"

"Of course," Wiping her hands off one more time on the rag, she plucked up one of the quills from a log book and held it out for him to take. "You can keep it, if you need to. I have tons of quills floating around here." She added quietly, as he all ready seemed distracted. Head tilted slightly, as she made sure to avert her gaze away from his journal to give him some privacy.

Moving towards a sink, she turned it on to give her hands a good scrubbing. Glancing warily at Marcus, something about him showing up randomly left her mind swirling with excuses as to why he came. Maybe he actually took her advice and decided to get glasses? Did he want her to look at his eyes and try to come up with some sort of potion or solution to fix his sight? Or did he show up because he needed a quill and couldn't find one anywhere else?

"Is... is everything okay?" Typically, Susan wasn't the type to pry, but he seemed exceptionally anxious and annoyed. Turning off the water, she moved to another drawer behind the counter and pulled out a clean rag. Her hands weren't pristine, but after working hours in the greenhouse, it was going to take hours to clean off her hands properly. At least now, if she went to rub her face, she wasn't going to leave smudges across her cheeks.

No. Everything was not okay and he didn't mean to bring it down on her but he didn't know where else to go. He sure as hell wasn't going to his father and he was livid with Delaney so that was out of the question. He supposed he could've gone to see Stephen but he didn't want to impose.. but wasn't that what he was doing here?

Feeling slightly guilty he took that quill and hurried a loud reply to Delaney, lip bitten as he did so. Fuck no his name was not fruity, who the hell was she to say as much?! He said nothing until the reply was written and then he slammed the journal shut and turned to Susan.

"Can you do me a favor? I wouldn't ask just anyone and I don't trust those gits at... I mean and maybe this asking to much, but," he walked over to the counter and set the quill and journal down so he could fish his goggles out of robes.

"Practices are starting soon, I gotta get these fixed or something for my eyes or I'm in the reserves."

Susan studied him for a moment as he held out the goggles. There was something more than that, Susan knew it, she could sense it. However, she felt it best if she didn't prod him too much. "I can try, I've never charmed goggles before." Rounding the counter, she pulled out her wand. She wasn't even sure how to go about this, of course she's read about this sort of thing, but actually attempting to charm goggles into a prescription might be a little over her head.

Clearing her throat, she took the goggles from him and turned them over in her fingers. "Do you want to sit?" Waving her wand towards a stool, it immediately scooted towards where they stood. Taking a seat on the counter top, she returned her attention back to the goggles. Raising her wand a quick swish and a flick made a visible difference on the lenses of the goggles. They visibly bent as they were magically altered to make the viewer have a clearer image.

"You're not going to hate me if I completely ruined them, right? I mean, I will try, but... I can't make any promises, and I don't want to be blamed for messing up your practices." Glancing at Marcus for a moment, she smiled slightly, before situating herself on the counter and holding out the goggles for him to try on.

"Try this..."

He was good at staring people down and was even better at making people that stared at him turn away when he returned their gaze but Susan ended up winning this one. He couldn't seem to stare back at her for long as something about her had his face feeling unnaturally hot. He didn't blush, but he was damned close. Marcus averted his gaze to the stool that magically scooted forward.

He sat and began fidgeting at once.

"Nah..."

A leg started to bounce with the heel of his boot on the lowest rung of the stool. When she lowered her gaze to the goggles he took the time to watch her. She was pretty. He had recalled her being as such but now, even though she was dressed in a poor manner (in his opinion as he did prefer dressing up to dressing down any day), she was actually quite stunning. Marcus felt his stomach knot up anxiously.

It was as if he felt guilty for finding a girl attractive when he knew he had knocked up another. Before he could think more about it though she was handing back the goggles and he was pulling them on. They magnified his eyes quite a bit and he knew he had to look stupid but for the most part.. things seemed clearer. He made a face and blinked owlishly.

"Pretty good, how do they look? Be honest."

An amused smirk curled on her lips as slender legs shifted to cross one over the other. Watching him blink towards her, she pursed her lips to try and stop from giggling. Greenish-blue eyes followed his stare as she nodded, "They look... strong." Running her fingers through her hair, she leaned her chin against the palm of her hand.

"Of course, I think that if your vision is as bad as you say, the least of your concerns should be how you look." A challenging look was given to him, as she pressed a finger to one of the lenses. "Besides, you certainly look distinguished. I could see this trend catching on." Pulling her hand back just as fast as it tapped against his goggles and just smiled.

"I could try to charm them so your eyes don't look so large." Tilting her head to the other side, she studied the way his eyes looked through the goggles. In Susan's opinion she liked the way they looked. It made him look less imposing and intimidating and made seem human. Not just some bumbling troll turned flawless Adonis, the goggles almost seemed humbling.

He could tell she was trying not to laugh and he had to make the effort to not get so upset about it. Most of the time Marcus let his anger boil hot but he was breathing through the temper tantrums that wanted to surface. His expression was hard to hide though, his lips turning down into a scowl and his eyebrows furrowing.

Then she compliments him and the anger goes out the window and a small, almost shy smile perks at the corner of his lips. He rubs his chin thoughtfully and for a moment he isn't thinking about his son to be or Delaney. He's thinking he likes how Susan Bones isn't afraid and how she isn't throwing herself at him or hurling insults.

It's pure impulse what he does next and later he won't recall how he allowed it to slip so easily but it does. He blinks again and just as she tapped on his glasses he leans forward off the stool and reaches for her hand before she can pull it back completely.

"D'you want to go out sometime?"

Susan was one of the nicest girls in the world and of she knew she was upsetting Marcus just by smirking, she would have stopped. Even when he scowled, Susan couldn't tell if it was because of the goggles or because she was trying to be polite and not laugh. Tapping a finger on her cheek, she continued to study his expression and noticed when a shy smile peeked at the corner of his lips. Marcus was a complete mystery to her, most of her friends she's known for years, but Marcus? The only thing she could remember about him was how troll-like he acted and looked. He wasn't the type - at least back when they were in Hogwarts - that she could see herself enjoying company with. Merlin, even now, he surprised her by how polite and kind he was. Susan actually felt a pang of sadness as she seemed to have been hasty in a judgement of him.

The moment his hand reached out for hers, eyes went wide and she could feel her breath leave her lungs and not return. A slight wave anxiety crashed against her chest as she stared at him for a long quiet moment. Did he just ask her out on a date? It was her turn to blink owlishly at him. Oh, Holy Helga, Ernie would kill him if he found out. However, the moment that a thought of Ernie came to mind, she just became annoyed. Wasn't this what she wanted? Wasn't this the exact reason why she called off their wedding? She didn't think she was ready for marriage because she was so young. Why shouldn't she go on a date with Marcus? She wasn't engaged and while she still deeply cared for Ernie, she knew it would be best to try and move on from him for a bit.

"I would like that," her look of shock suddenly vanishing into a pleasant smile. Susan surprised herself just then, but she didn't regret it. This was exactly what she wanted. She wanted freedom to make her own decisions without having to keep other people in mind. Selfish, perhaps, but in the end, Susan has to think of herself.

Glancing down at her hand inside of his, an amused smirk curled on her lips once more. In comparison to his large hand, her tiny hand was slender and pale and slightly stained with dirt. Despite how beat up her hands looked at the moment, as one hand rested in Marcus' grasp, her touch was light, and delicate. "But perhaps it's best if I don't go out looking like this." Holding up her hand that wasn't in his grasp, it still had traces of dirt and plants on it. Even her outfit wasn't something she would go out in, shorts and the top were things that she wore around the greenhouse when she didn't have to care about how she looked.

How Susan Bones, who was entirely to nice of a witch to be his type of witch to go after, who was also a sympathizer of those he tended to dislike (Potter at one time, Weasley, a slew of others), managed to have him going red in the cheeks was beyond him. He could easily blame everything on how terribly fit she was, but deep down he knew it was more than that. For now, though, he focused on the simple fact that she was fit to be on his arm.

A small smile spread across his face and he pushed the goggles up to rest atop his head. He stood then.

"Well, not now but.. you know, I can owl you, or something. I'm uh.. in a wedding and the pre-season training starts soon so I'm going to be a bit swamped but when I have a free evening? I'll just.. just owl you."

He took a step backward. Suddenly he wasn't so worried about his drama with Delaney. "Thanks for these, it'll help for sure.." then he turned to walk off, pausing just before he exited the apothecary to shoot her a grin over his shoulder.

"By the way, even covered in dirt.. you look bloody fantastic."

Susan caught the red in his cheeks, and she couldn't help but wonder what was going through his mind. All through her time at Hogwarts, she was one of the students that made sure to stay away from him. She was utterly terrified of Marcus, she knew his anger and she's seen what he could do to people smaller than him. Never in a million years would she think Marcus would be asking for her help in her store. She never thought he would actually... blush.

"That's fine, and it's no problem. Let me know how to they work out." Green eyes followed him as he left the shop. She remained seated on the counter as he started to walk away. Catching that grin, and then the compliment, it was Susan's turn to blush. Cheeks flushed a bright red as she looked down at her hands and over her clothes. Glancing up only when she heard the door close, Susan caught her reflection in a glassy surface and realized she had smudges of dirty along her forehead and cheeks.

Groaning, she placed her face in her hands and felt how hot her cheeks were. "What was that?!" She muttered to herself and attempted to make sense of what just happened.
