WHO: Gretchen Watkins & Trevor Scabior
WHAT: Gretchen's bored and has a question
WHERE: Their office
WHEN: 27 July evening
WARNINGS/RATING/STATUS: This'll probably end in a fade to black, knowing them, plus liberal cursing and drinking/R/Complete!

Flipping through her journal, Gretchen tapped her fingers against the desk impatiently. The entry from that Asian fellow seemed sketchy, but Gretch could handle herself, she knew what to say and what not to say. At this point though, without more information from him, the conversation could go either way. Still, it paid to be prepared.

Trevor wasn't at home. She didn't think he was in the house, it had been entirely too quiet, and a quick check of the rooms he most frequently occupied confirmed that; the only being in the house other than her was Keg, sprawled on his back in the middle of his master's bed, snoring loudly.

Hoping he was at the office, Gretchen slid her feet into a pair of sandals and apparated out of the house. It was late enough that most people were gone from the shop, only the presence of Claudia and Gifford lounging amongst the books alerted her to the fact that Trevor was here. She nodded at them as she passed, hiding her smile when they subtly straightened up at the sight of her, and disappeared upstairs.

The door at the top of the steps was closed and she pushed her way in, rolling her eyes at the sight of Trevor, leaning back in his desk chair, dead asleep. Shutting the door behind her, she crossed the room and tugged her skirt up slightly, enough so she could comfortably straddle his lap. "Dreaming of me?" she murmured close to his ear, grinning.

"I think that I love when you get all business-y and forceful like that," she responded, waggling her eyebrows for a moment before schooling her face with a sip of her drink. "I think we should also do a little delving on our own. Not wait for someone else to tell us what's going on, but go out and find what's going on. I don't know which of us would be more noticeable though. Or maybe we could contact Sidi? He - "

She cut herself off with a shake of her head; there was no sense bringing anyone else into this, letting someone else know that their control on their crew might be slipping. "No. Just us." She took a musing sip of her firewhiskey, pursing her lips in thought. "You, I think." It was difficult, they were both recognisable figures for different reasons and she shrugged, after a moment, taking a long swig of her drink. "Or there's always polyjuice."

Trevor nodded, considering the excellent point she raised. "Polyjuice, maybe. I don't know if it's worse to be completely unrecognisable or too easily recognised." Both had benefits and obvious flaws. Someone in the crew, mid-level would be the least suspicious to see sniffing around for information on their own. But it also had to be someone they trusted.

He downed the remaining contents of his glass and passed it back, smirking slightly. "Always wanted to give being a ginger a try," he joked, winking at her.

"I think you'd make a lovely ginger," Gretchen snorted, giving up on attempting to balance enough to pour him another and dropping her feet to the ground. Filling his glass, she waited until she'd resettled herself in the chair before snapping her fingers, triumphantly. "With the lot your cousin hangs about with, we'll have no shortage of gingers to choose from, too."

Topping off her glass, she leaned back in the chair, kicking her legs back up again. "I've been working on appearance charms, but I'm not completely satisfied. They might be good enough to act for a short while though, in a dark pub or sommat."

"Yeah," Trevor rolled his eyes at her suggestion. "I don't know enough words to tell you how 'orrible of an idea that is," he said firmly, disgusted at the idea of spending any amount of time as a Weasley. "And no one in their right mind would give one of that lot any fucking information worth anything."

Resettling himself on the desk, Trevor sipped thoughtfully, considering the options opened to him by appearance charms. "Best place to work," he gestured at her with his glass before drinking, "Dark pubs." They were some of his favourite places. The idea that he could make a habit of working like he did years ago appealed to him and he nodded at Gretch but kept the notion to himself. "Keep working on that."

Reaching up, Gretchen set the bottle on the desk beside Trevor and downed her firewhiskey, placing the glass down. "Some of it is easy," she started, enthusiastically. Pulling out her wand, she twirled it above her head, turning her short red hair into full blonde curls. "The hair's well simple," she narrated, unnecessarily, moving the wand down and changing the colour of her eyes to a clear blue. "I've even got the eyes to stay for a while, but the rest? It's all fiddly and I can't make much of a change."

Tapping a quill on Trevor's desk, she transfigured it into a mirror, then studied herself in it. She concentrated, then, with a few wand movements managed to make her eyes wider and her lips fuller. "Can't get the nose, no matter how hard I try," she lamented, looking up at him. "And it only stays like this for about half an hour."

Trevor watched her change her appearance, smiling at Gretch's excitement. He knew she was well talented and he appreciated seeing another facet of that. "I like you better ginger," he observed, sipping his drink.

"Do you like the curls?" She grinned at him, tapping the top of her head with her wand and changing the locks back to their normal red. "It'd work for a short time, and it'd have to be a one time only thing." Frowning, she waved her wand across her face, reverting her visage to its normal appearance, but keeping the curls. "I haven't been able to do the exact face twice."

Gretchen continued, after a moment, musing almost to herself. "Although if I coupled that with some sort of repelling charm, that might work..."

Trevor eyed the red curls and shrugged, taking another drink. "I like you normal," he stated, not too thrown by the look regardless. "You should keep it like that," he added, "When not trying to disguise yourself." He furrowed his brow slightly as he tried to make sense of what a repelling charm would do but didn't bother to ask, waiting for Gretchen to clarify it for him.

Waving her wand over her hair, Gretchen shook her head, the movement unfurling the curls and returning her hair to its normal state. At the look on Trevor's face, Gretchen leaned forward and poured herself another firewhiskey, taking her time with drinking this one. "If I change you," she started to explain, settling back in her chair and kicking her feet up into his lap. "But it's not quite right, if I can figure out how to add a repelling charm, people won't look too closely at you, so the slight similarities to your actual face won't register. See?"

Sipping, Trevor nodded at her explanation, impressed at the idea even despite it's obvious hurdle, that it would keep him from being able to talk to those he needed if the repelling charm couldn't be fine tuned without knowing specifics. Trevor lifted her legs and set them down on a spot of desk next to him and hopped up, pacing away across the room as he thought. "I'd 'onestly rather that than Polyjuice," he explained, finishing his drink and setting it on a shelf as he passed it. "But if it could be made to work right. Last an' look right an' be repeatable an' all."

Making a little disappointed noise when Trevor moved her position, she watched him as he paced the office. "I'm sure I could get it to work right," she answered, taking a swig of her drink. "I haven't really been working on it, just experimenting when I was bored and you weren't around to entertain me." She took another sip of her drink, finishing it and examining the glass and distance between her and the bottle mournfully. "When do you think you'll want to do this?"

"Whenever you have it ready to try," he replied, not even sure what he was going to do with the disguise, but eager to try it out. "Dunno what we'll do," he explained for her. "But I'd like to test it. See what trouble we can get up to with the freedom of the disguise, yeah?"

"Give me a few days," she responded, grinning, his eagerness infectious. "I'm sure I'll have something at least good enough to experiment with." Debating taking another glass of firewhiskey, Gretchen took stock of herself. She was pleasantly tipsy, warm and bubbly and decided to keep that feeling, leaning forward and setting her glass on the desk. "You really want to be ginger?" She asked, after a moment, half heartedly reaching out a hand for him.

Trevor shrugged, circling around her chair to her side, leaning against the desk. "Dunno," he conceded, taking a swig from the bottle, too lazy to summon his glass back to him. He reached up and ruffled his hair, tugging the fringe over his forehead. "Maybe I'll go darker. Look dashing, wouldn't it?"

Leaning back in the chair, Gretchen folded her fingers across her stomach and peered up at him. "Incredibly dashing," she answered, scooting the chair forward so she could more comfortably rest her feet on the desk. "How about a moustache?" she asked, idly tracing an overly large moustache shape above her upper lip with her fingers.

"I said I wanted to look dashing," he said, gesturing vaguely with the bottle. "Not like a bloody git." He had never been fond on moustaches. Facial hair was alright, and moustaches didn't always look bad but in his opinion they were usually ridiculous. He took another long swig from the bottle and brought it down on the desk with more force than necessary. Eyeing Gretchen he hooked his thumbs around his braces and nodded at her. "You like moustaches so much, give yourself one."

"It's not like I have a moustache fetish or anything," Gretchen argued, scooting down lower in the chair. "I just meant for the purposes of disguising yourself. It'd make you look well different with little work on my part." Pointing her toe, she nudged him with it for emphasis. "And like I said, I've got the hair bit down so it'd be easy."

"Yeah, well," Trev stretched his braces out, careful not to let them snap back. "I'd still rather not look like someone I'd want to 'ex. Don't do us any good if we can't get anyone important to even look at us without laughin'"

Tapping her chin, Gretchen considered his point. "Well," she stretched her arm out, gesturing towards his face. "What's the difference between a moustache and that little scruffy thing you have going on there?"

"Does it look like a fucking moustache?" Trevor asked, looking at Gretchen like she'd asked the most ridiculous thing. Wrong location, wrong shape, wrong everything. "Doesn't make me look like a fucking wanker, and the obvious."

"I meant in terms of facial hair," Gretchen sighed. "I realise it's not a moustache!" She opened her mouth to snap again, then sighed again and slid even further down in the seat, resting her neck on the top of the back of the chair. "I like your scruffy thing," she allowed, after a moment.

"Good," Trevor snapped, watching her slide down with an amused smile. "It's not going anywhere. I like it." Pushing away from the desk, Trevor swung a leg over Gretchen's propped up legs so he was standing in front of her and leaned over til he could look down at her.

"Well, I said I liked it first," Gretchen answered, unable to keep the smile off her face as he stood straddled over her. "And clearly my opinion is the important one here." Resisting the urge to reach up for him, she merely grinned and idly hooked her thumbs through the belt loops of her skirt, waiting to see what he would do next.

"Uh huh," Trevor muttered, ignoring her usual ego fuelled quipping. He reached down and grabbed her lapels firmly, tugging her up slightly as he stooped to kiss her, firmly.
