Who: Eloise Midgen & Wayne Hopkins (Lena if you're around, throw Jack in if you want!)
What: Jackson's wedding, and the crazy party that is the reception.
Where: Near Castlehead.
When: Saturday 24 July, 2003.  Mid-afternoon.

It had been several years since Eloise had been to a wedding, and she couldn't remember if they usually seemed to go on as long as Jackson and Natalie's had. The ceremony had been beautiful and it had been fun to watch the reactions of Natalie's family. Though only her immediate family and some cousins had made the trip from New Zealand, they were Muggles and looked perpetually shocked by every instance of magic. It had gone off without a hitch, and halfway through Eloise was hit with a renewed sense that coming back home had been one of her best decisions in a long time.

As nice as the ceremony had been, Eloise had really been looking forward to the reception. Big parties still weren't much of a draw to her, but this wasn't just any party - it was family, and close friends, and it almost felt more like a reunion. Barely over an hour into the reception, most of the guests had already made the most of the open bar, and it was easy to gauge who had already had a bit too much by how badly they were currently dancing.

Eloise, for her part, was taking a break. Seated at her table, a half-empty gin and tonic in front of her, she kicked off her shoes and frowned at a spot on skirt of her pale green dress robes. Normally something like a little stain wouldn't make a difference to her, but she had put a lot of work into these robes and wasn't about to see them dirtied up so early on. Pointing her wand at the mark (which, she noticed, got a look of interest from one of Natalie's relatives), she was about to mutter an incantation when she saw Wayne approaching.

"Having a good time?" she asked, pausing. Lowering her voice, she added in a conspiratorial tone, "Is it wrong that I'm finding the bride's family as amusing as I am?" Even though Eloise's father was a Muggle, he'd been so used to the Wizarding world for years that it wasn't often she saw normal Muggle reactions to magic.

Wayne carried two refills in his hands as he crossed the room and returned to the table. He couldn't help but admire Eloise as he neared her--he hadn't seen her in dress robes like this since the Yule Ball their fourth year at Hogwarts. Part of him marveled at how long ago that was...

"It's not bad at all," he said in answer to her question as he sat, and leaned close. "Considering I've never really been in a situation like this, it's rather interesting. Although... Next person who calls us 'magicians' might not like the parlour trick I pull out of my hat."

Eloise looked incredulous for a moment, then burst out laughing. Luckily, the music drowned out the sound of it - in any other situation, it would have drawn a few looks.

"You serious? Magicians, indeed." She took a sip of her drink and returned to work on her skirt, rapping the spot quickly with her wand and muttering scourgify. "That may be, but I don't think it would be a very good idea to try an cut me in half. Maybe start small and work your way up."

Wayne laughed along with Eloise. He was rather glad he hadn't made her do a spit-take of her drink--no need to add to the spot she'd just cleaned. "Start small, eh?" He said, still chuckling. "What, would you rather I trim your toenails first?"

Luckily for Eloise, her glass had only just reached her mouth again when Wayne replied. Any further, and she would have snorted into her drink. Instead she managed to simply wrinkle her nose as her lips twitched into a smirk.

"Well now that had never occurred to me," she said, shaking her head. "May have to pass on that. Ticklish feet, and all. We wouldn't want me kicking you in the face." Stirring the little straw in her drink around, she shrugged.

"Here's a thought - wait until Natalie throws her bouquet later, and conjure up a few extras. Chaos is sure to ensue."
