Who: Penelope Clearwater and Orsino Thruston
When: July 2010, early morning
Where: Their flat.
What: Orsino wakes up to find Penny playing sleeping beauty.
Rating: Family Friendly.
Open/Closed: Open.

Penny had slipped out of bed sometime shy of five am to creep through to the living room and listen to the early morning quidditch show Quidditch Quotes. Armed with a blanket, pillows and a round of toast to keep two dogs happily snuggled in beside her on the couch she was in her element.

This was bliss ; it almost made the early morning worth it. She'd stayed up late calculating numbers and formulas for the paper that sat on the desk in the office. Sending it in would be the final test of her ability to teach: and that both terrified and excited her.

Sometime during the hour long programme, Seven and Eight had snuck up onto the couch and taken over three quarters of the couch. Draining the cup of tea, she stretched and tried to take back her blanket. She was only going to close her eyes for a moment - just five seconds and then she could get up and make a start on editing her paper.

Just...five moments....

"Five moments" later saw the clock reading a quarter after seven, a time that, as far as Orsino was concerned, was far too early to be fully awak. Or any sort of awake, for that matter. Every so often, though, he did find himself waking up at odd hours, groggily seeing the time, and promptly passing out until a more appropriate time. This happened now, in fact, except that this time Orsino was quite aware that something was off. Even half asleep, it didn't take him long to realize that this was due to the lack of Penny. The dogs weren't even there, which ordinarily made him happy as he had had a difficult time training them to stay out of the room. But now it bothered him, and the more it bothered him, the more awake he seemed to become.

Wondering why he was alone, for once, Orsino debated getting up to see if something was wrong. He really didn't want to, but regardless of this he was reluctantly rolling out of bed a minute later. He made his was out into the living room, illuminated by early morning sunlight, and squinted over at the couch. Sure enough, there was a very large lump on it - actually, three smaller lumps.

The two dogs were sprawled over each other, tangled in a pile of blankets that belonged to Penny. The wireless was on, the volume low, and for a moment Orsino thought Penny was awake. He noticed, though, as he drew up to the scene, that her mouth was slightly ajar and her arm was hanging over the edge of the sofa limply. Well, this was cute. As Orsino hovered there, considering his options, Seven suddenly gave a start and leapt off the sofa, dragging one of the blankets with her and jumping at Orsino with a sharp bark.

Somewhere a dog was barking and Penny turned over to try and prod Orsino awake. Even half-asleep she knew it wasn't her turn to let him. Orsino was squisher than normal and strangely cushion shaped which made cuddling into him more difficult than normal.

In her dream she was being chased by a sheaf of papers along a beach. The lack of blanket meant she was suddenly cold and she tugged the nearest warm thing towards her.

Eight didn't take well to being used as a blanket and wriggled free, dragging Penny awake to find Orsino looking down at her. There was something not right about the scene and she blinked slowly at him for a few seconds before asking in a voice thick with sleep "Why are you upside down?"

"Am I?" he replied slowly, tilting his head to the right as far as it would go. "That's certainly awkward."

The labradoodle had followed its other canine companion off the sofa, and both dogs were now well occupied across the room, a rope bone stretched tautly between them and a few low growls issuing forth every few seconds. Orsino sized up the space that had been left at the end of the sofa and dropped down onto it, making sure not to squash Penny's feet. "Fixed it."

He reached over and shoved her playfully. "Come on, make room. Or would you prefer the dogs?"

Penny watched as Orsino flopped down onto the couch beside her. It didn't take her more than thirty seconds to have her feet plopped onto his lap. His hair was tousled from his sleep and she reached forward to run her hands through it.

"I'd prefer the dogs though," she told him with a straight face as she stretched behind her to root out a couple of cushions which had gotten stuck down the bottom of the couch. "How can I resist such cute faces?"

Whistling for the dogs, she encouraged them both to try and fit into the space between her and Orsino.

"That's just silly," he said quickly, leaning over until his head came to rest on her stomach, effectively blocking the dogs from any hope of finding a spot. They probably could, come to that. Both dogs had a talent for finding a space to sleep, regardless of the odds, even if it meant lying on top of someone already there. However, both seemed discouraged after coming over and sniffing at the sofa. Seven returned to the rope, while Eight slid down to the floor with a low groan, his tail beating against the floor.

Orsino looked up at Penny with a lazy smirk. "And entirely impractical. How'm I supposed to shag you if the dogs are making as though the couch is theirs?"

As he moved to stretch out on the couch and stake a claim on her stomach, Penny took the opportunity to lift her hand to her mouth and do a quick check for morning breath.

She loved Orsino but during the night she'd gotten ahold of the onion rings and indulged in them. Orsino was meant to have slept in and hogged the bed to give her time to quickly brush her teeth.

"But it is the dogs couch. We're just their humans and as for shagging me? Hrrrmm, I don't know." Tilting her chin up towards him she let him see the mischief in her eyes. "I mean, I am an expert at charms. But you'll have to be careful of the nest. I spent a long time building it."

Sliding her legs up and over the couch cushion, Penny found her foot being nudged by an insistent Seven. The little dog quickly got bored and leaned back on the floor to scratch himself enough to make his tags jingle.

Orsino made as though he were exhasperated, but it was clear he was merely amused. Teasing seemed like an appropriate response. "Don't worry, I can't shag someone who smells like...lunch? What'd you do, run out to the deli on the corner at four in the morning?"

The mention of food, even teasingly, seemed to act almost as a cue. He felt his stomach growl as if it had heard him speak. Maybe he wasn't hungry for onion rings, but a fry up sounds really good suddenly. It was rare that he ate breakfast so early. Still, now he couldn't get the idea of food out of his mind.

"Hm. Do you want some breakfast?"

Arching an eyebrow, Penny surveyed Orsino and the couch before grinning slowly. "Maybe you weren't going to get lucky, Mister." Tilting her head she thought about the possibility of there being a deli nearby. She thought she knew the streets around what had been Orsinos - and was now theirs - flat.

"There's a deli you've been hiding from me? Where!" Tangling her hands in his hair she debated plaiting the long locks she found there. "Are you offering to make me some? Be still my beating heart, its the man of my dreams."

To the first statement, Orsino merely shrugged and made a noncommittal sound before finagling his way further up the couch. It was something of a feat, as it was only so wide to begin with and had become rather disheveled from Penny's sleeping on it. Still, he managed to squeeze himself between the back of the couch and Penny - lucky for them both he was still so thin, though he found the cushions to be unpleasantly scratchy.

"Not literally on the corner, you know, down the way a bit more." He pushed some of Penny's hair out of the way, enjoying the faint scent of her shampoo. Much better than onion rings. "But maybe. Once I'm more awake. Right at this moment I'm more likely to set myself on fire."
