Who: Evie Bagnold and Draco Malfoy
When: Wednesday afternoon, after classes
Where: Quidditch pitch
What: Scene Lottery! The Quidditch Pitch was supposed to be empty that morning
Rating: not higher than PG
Open/Closed: closed

Sitting in the sun with her books spread around her, Evie began to think this might have been a mistake. She certainly wasn't getting any further with the essay she had been attempting to write. Initially she had thought that being outside in the fresh air would help to revive her brain, but it just wasn't a happening thing for her.

Sighing, she packed up her books, but didn't make a move to get up. She lay back, eyes closed, luxuriating in the sunlight on her face, when a shadow blocked out the light. Opening her eyes, she squinted up at the figure standing over her.

Draco had been in the Common Room, but the bustle of lower forms and incessant questions from fifth years about Quidditch try-outs had tried his nerves enough that he wanted to escape. They had gotten him thinking, though - and he couldn't remember the last time he'd been on a broom and enjoyed it. He wondered if he could still enjoy it, or if the creeping and fading sense of deja-vu would haunt him even on the Pitch.

There was only one way to find out.

To be fair, he didn't really notice her until he'd almost passed in front her her on his way across to the far side of the Pitch, and by the time he had - well, he wasn't going to be run off by a Hufflepuff (was that what she was, he couldn't actually place her, so he assumed) after already running himself off from his own house.

"You do realize this isn't a library, don't you?" He snapped, towering over her.

Evie wasn't much of an imposing presence, but she was no shy retiring violet either. She drew herself up to her full height, pitiful as that was next to his tall frame, and steeled her features.

"You do realise that you don't own the place, don't you?" she snapped back, refusing to give an inch. He had basically attacked her, completely unprovoked, and she wasn't going to let him get away with taking his obviously bad mood out on her.

And it wasn't as if she were taking up much room, either. Her books were in a neat, orderly pile, and though she had been sprawled out on the grass, there wasn't exactly a lot of her. She could understand his indignation if there had been a game on, or even a proper practice, but he was just being a twat.

"Who died and made you Merlin anyway?" she shot at him.

"Merlin," Draco answered, having to look down to look her in the eye, and smirking. She was stepping up bravely to him? Maybe she was a lower form Gryffindor or something.

"Ownership has nothing to do with understanding the way the Pitch is meant to be used, though. Studying, inside. Quidditch..." He held up his broom as if she needed a visual indicator to understand, "Outside."

Doing her best not to back down, Evie strained to make herself just a little taller. "You don't get to tell me when and where I can study, and you don't get to dictate any area of this school is used, except your bed. And I'm sure no one but yourself is interested on that, anyway."

She couldn't believe the words coming out of her mouth. Where was she getting the audacity to tell this boy off? He was a Slytherin, and obviously older... she had a sneaking suspicion she knew who he was, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

"And besides, perhaps if you had asked nicely I might have moved. However, I think you'll find that after your performance, I'm not at all inclined to obey any and all directives that might fall from your mouth."

Draco thought about having it out here with her, but that certainly wasn't what he'd come to the Pitch for. Besides, Gryffindor or Hufflepuff or whomever - she'd likely keep arguing until he was forced hex her mouth closed.

Instead an eyebrow cocked, and his smirk spread out just a little wider. Anyone who knew him would know what a bad sign that was - and he'd been cooped up, locked in with real threats for far too long.

"You are absolutely right," he said smoothly, stepping back from her and holding his wand out to let it hover at his side. "But as I still intend to do my practise, I'd suggest you watch out for the bludgers."

"Is that a threat?" Evie squeaked, not with fear but with anger. "Who the hell do you think you are, coming over to me and threatening me for no damn good reason? I have done nothing to you!

She had the sudden urge to smack the smirk right off of his face. It wasn't like her at all, but this boy just seemed to bring out the rage in her. She noticed his hand by his side, holding his wand, and though a part of her knew she should be a little afraid, the rest of her knew he wouldn't do anything too unpleasant to her while they were still on school grounds.

"You're a creep," she snarled, surprised at how much venom there was in her voice.

(lol. let's pretend I made sense at all last night and MEANT to say wand instead of broom hovering)

Draco snorted - the squeak was obnoxious, but certainly not threatening, and Hufflepuff (he was still torn, but assuming that now) anger was always more funny than intimidating. He supposed that was the default.

A moment later he was putting his wand away, taking up his broom instead. "I think that I'm the Quidditch Captain for Slytherin. Which I know gives me persmission to use the Pitch at my leisure to get ready for team trials. And while I may be a creep - " Which was a ridiculous word, he added to himself, "I'm also not the one who'll be stationary as the bludgers are looking for targets. Unless you're hiding a broom somewhere entirely inappropriate."

It took a couple of seconds for Evie to fully register what he had meant by "hiding a broom somewhere entirely inappropriate", but she got there in the end, and her face slowly coloured bright red. Yuck.

As much as she didn't want to give this asshole an inch, she had to admit that he was right. If he really was going to be playing with Bludgers, it wasn't going to be safe for her out there. But he didn't have to be so... so... asshole-ish about it. If he had just been even slightly polite, Evie would have just taken her books and left when he asked.

Trembling with rage, she rued the fact that there was really no course of action open to her other than grabbing her books, turning on her heel and storming off, which she did, just managing not to trip over her feet and humiliate herself even more. She vowed that if she ever ran into this boy again, she would be prepared with a suitable hex, just to give him his come-uppance for being so high and mighty.
