Who: Orsino Thruston & Donaghan Tremlett
What: Super Secret Meeting
Where: Orsino's flat
When: Thursday 8th July, 2003.  Afternoon.
Rating: BEAUTIFUL.  Low for likely good-natured insults.

For as much as he put up a frequent fuss about Don's habit of turning up uninvited - indeed about many of Don's habits in general - the fact was that Orsino considered Don to be one of his closest friends within the band.  He wasn't sure exactly when this had been determined, or if he had even come the conclusion consciously at all.  Still, in spite of the days when Don really was driving him mad, Orsino rather looked up to him in some weird, possibly irrational way he didn't quite like to think about much.  Maybe it was because Don was the only member of the band who seemed to have his life "in order", as much as you could suppose it to be when he had a wife and three toddlers to grapple with.  When it came down to it, Don felt something like an older brother and, more so, someone who might have some good advice beneath his insufferably bouncy exterior.

Penny was out for the day, which was precisely why Orsino had asked Don to come when he did.  Seeing as the matter concerned her specifically, it seemed unwise to try and discuss it with her in the building.  And besides, Don had experience with this, right?  As he waited for Don to arrive, Orsino began to wonder if this had been a good idea at all - if any of this was a good idea at all.  The sound of a record player was interrupted as the dogs began to bark manically.  Apparently, Don's arrival was impending.

Don was quite used to how he was greeted whenever he went to see Orsino. In the past it was Seven who greeted him and now it varied between Seven and Eight, but Don didn’t mind. He couldn’t help but grin down at the dog as it danced around him and he carefully stepped in, making certain that he didn’t step on the dog. He certainly wouldn’t ever dream of hurting any animals on purpose, but it was easy to accidently do it when they were so close.

Rolling his eyes was something that Don was getting quite used to when dealing his any of his band mates. “Uh-huh, sure it is. Somehow I am thinking that you could have taken Eight on a walk for that.”

He didn’t say more until he was sitting down. Once he was down he looked over at Orsino expectantly. “So... Are we going to have some random chatter until you decide to get down to whatever it is or are we just going to get to it?” He could go either way. He didn’t mind, really.

Orsino shrugged. "A bit of both, probably. Here." He turned and made his way toward the extra room that usually served as a storage space for old and extra instruments, gesturing for Don to follow suit.

As they walked through the doorway they were greeted by a dozing Seven, sprawled on her side under what appeared to be a partially dismantled Muggle keyboard. Orsino made for a celesta near the back of the room and open the top up. He seemed to be rummaging inside of it for something, and as he bent over it he glanced up at Don. "How's everything at home? - Ow."

He pulled his hand out and inspecting his palm for a few moments before returning to his search. It didn't occur to him that, to Don, this probably seemed very strange.

He could handle a bit of both. It was always nice to get to go and chat with Orsino. Sure he did it often, but again it wasn't often that Orsino actually requested for Don to come over. He'd deal with whatever it was Orsino wanted to do.

The sight of the dog made him grin. He was quite certain that when his toddlers weren't toddlers any more he was going to talk Elizabeth into a family dog. "Things at home are better. Elizabeth isn't sick any more and neither are the kids." He tilted his head as he watched Orsino rummage.

This was all a little odd, but he simply sat there with a grin, knowing that Orsino would get the point eventually. "And you? How are things going with you? I'm still annoyed that you dared even joke about killing me off with Kirley though," he pointed out with a friendly grin.

"Oh, you know," he said vaguely, waving his free hand in the air. "Good, mostly. Sometimes I start to feel like I'm biding my time until we record something again, but good. Really good."

Orsino's hand hit against something small and hard wedged against one of the mallets inside. His hand closed around it and, after a bit of jostling, he came up with a small black box. Smirking up at Don's last comment, Orsino straightened and shut the top of the clesta. He leaned against it and gave Don a hurt look. "Oh, come off it. You know if I decided to kill you I'd get the whole band involved, not just Kirley."

Yes, he was stalling. Why, he didn't know - this wasn't for Don's benefit, surely, and he had asked him here in the first place. This was beginning to feel silly, and Orsino nervously tossed the box between his hands as though it were a cheap trinket he'd just found by chance.

Vaguely he wondered if Orsino would get mad if he snatched the little box he was toying with out of his hands. He’d already decided to give Orsino time to come out with whatever and if he wanted to continue to stall then he’d let him. Which meant that he couldn’t go snatching the box no matter how much he wanted to.

“For all I know you are making plans behind my back and have gotten the whole band involved! That’s what privacy wards are for.” He’d ignore that was what actually visiting the other members of the band could be for as well. He did feel a little bad that Orsino seemed to be pretty much the only one he ever visited.

"Damn, plan's ruined now."

Orsino tried racking his brain for some new topic to pursue, but it wasn't working. Probably, he didn't want it to work. The longer they stood around, the more likely it was that Penny would get home, and then it would be a huge waste. He shook his head and took a few steps nearer to Don, then stopped short. "Anyway. Enough of me trying to dance around this."

One hand on his hip, Orsino flipped the lid of the box open and turned it to face Don - nestled inside was a ring, a trio of diamonds set in gold. He raised an eyebrow and looked away, apparently fascinated by a pile of tom toms in the corner. "So..." This was the part where he asked for advice. Except suddenly he wasn't sure why he needed advice, anyway, or what Don could possibly say. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything at all, just sat on this another six months, or a year, or just forgotten about it.

Don rolled his eyes in mock annoyance at Orsino and continued to watch him. It was odd that he seemed so agitated about something. For the life of Don he couldn't think of anything that could have him so worked up. After all the band was still going strong and Orsino and Penny were still together and seemed quite happy. Plus he had his dogs. Before he could question it out loud though Orsino stated that he was done dancing around it and Don blinked when he turned around with an open box with a diamond ring in it.

"Well I know we always say we love each other, but I'm a married man, Thrusty," Don said, unable to stop that reply. He also couldn't stop himself from fluttering his eyes and putting his hands over his heart. He did, however, reach out and take the box from Orsino and studied that ring inside. "This is an awfully nice ring, Orsino." And now it was most definitely time to be serious. "Is it... Is it for Penny?"

Orsino narrowed his eyes at Don and fought the temptation to roll them. He couldn't possibly think of why Don would ask that question, but he just shook his head instead.

"Who else would it - yeah." He shrugged. "I got it, er, well. In January, I think?"

Now that he had said that out loud, it sounded even more ridiculous than he already thought it was. What sort of idiot bought something like that and then did absolutely nothing with it for seven months? "But in any case, I'm thinking it's probably about time I actually get on it."
