Who: Dean and Seamus
What: Dean comes to stay
Where: Seamus' flat
When: The 17th - Backdated to after Dean sent his owl.
Rating/Warning: TBA

After a few brief conversations in Diagon, Dean had finally made his way back to The Leaky Cauldron. He was happily prepared to just head over to Seamus', but a thought struck him before he did and he laughed that he hadn't thought of it before and so instead disappeared into Muggle London for a bit on a hunt to find what he wanted. You didn't show up on someone's doorstep begging for a place to live without a gift, right? It took a big to find exactly what he wanted, and only when what he'd been hunting for was safely tucked away in his satchel did he finally made his way to Seamus'.

Knocking, he heard happy barking inside and smiled to himself. Some things didn't change.

Seamus was beyond excited to have heard from Dean, knowing that he was back in England was a bit of a relief for him. He wrote Dean all the time, but sometimes he felt an emptiness without his best friend around. When they had finished their owls, Seamus went to the now empty second room and started to clean up getting it ready for him.

He knew Dean had arrived when Mac started barking. He was generally a quiet dog, but he had this weird sense of knowing when people were at the flat before they even knocked at the door.

So before Dean had the chance, Seamus whipped the door open and jumped into Dean's arms, wrapped his legs around his waist, and kissed his forehead. "I've missed you, you sexy black man."

"Ooof!"

Dean was used to enthusiastic greetings - coming to his mum's house as soon as he'd gotten home and having his mum and his sisters all jump him had been good practice. Except there really wasn't good practice for having a fully-grown Irishman tackling and wrapping himself around you in his hallway, and so that Seamus didn't fall over, Dean had to hold him up - ended up with his hands on his ass to keep him there and laughed shaking his head and stumbling into the flat that way.

He couldn't see, of course, past he Seamus-shaped bulge in front of him, but instinct gravitated him toward where he hoped a couch shoud be so he could dump his best friend onto it.

In fact, the couch was there, but he was pretty sure that Dean may have ran into Mac before hitting the couch, because the landing wasn't a pretty as he'd hoped it be (and he heard Mac yelp). Seamus hit the couch, but almost hit his head off the floor at the same time.

He didn't care though, cause he was laughing too hard when it happened. Mac jumped over the couch and next to Seamus and started licking his face excitedly. "Aye, puppy stop...stop..."

After somehow pushing Mac away, he contorted himself so he was kneeling on the cushions, facing the back of the couch and where Dean was standing. "Hi!"

"Don't listen to him, Mac. You keep goin'. Good dog." Despite having never actually met the dog in person, Seamus tended to talk about animals in his letters quite a bit, and Dean felt settled in already.

"Hi," He told his contorted friend, and he smacked a kiss to Seamus' forehead to match the wet spot he'd left on his own, then pushed himself up and over the back of the sofa, long legs landing feet into the cushion next to Seamus before he sat himself down beside him. "Some welcome back you give me, attacking me in the hallway and all. I see how much I was missed."

Seamus turned around and plopped onto the cushions, legs crossed indian style, facing his friend. "You have no idea. You've been gone for half of forever and I was starting to get worried that you were liking the States too much."

Mac jumped onto the couch and sat down between the two. Seamus leaned up and wrapped his arms around the dog's neck and grinned. "Mac, meet Dean. Dean, this is Mac. Dean's going to be here for a while whether he likes it or not cause I'm not letting him leave."

Dean petted Mac's head easily and laughed at that. "Keeping me as a kept man, eh? I could get used to that, but I'd have to tell you my going rate is pretty expensive, yeah? Don't know that a Ministry worker could afford to keep me fed and clothed and all by himself." Which was one of the reasons why Dean already had a few plans for where he'd start looking for work, but he didn't need to think about that yet.

"And the States are pretty damn enchanting, you know. You get some vacation time, we can head for a holiday or something and I'll show you around New York City. Just about a thousand times more incredible than London, and open a hell of a lot later."

"Yep, five years-ish is way too long for you to be out of my sight after spending seven years living together. You're staying and there's nothing you can say about it. Besides, I need a new roommate anyway and I can cover everything till you get settled back into life around here. I had a bit of money stashed away so I don't want to hear any arguments." Seamus said that practically in one breath so Dean couldn't stop to argue with him.

"I've seen pictures of New York. It looks like it's pretty brilliant." He'd also seen the pictures of the airplane thing that happened, which scared the hell out of him and made him glad he could apperate everywhere.

Dean had actually helped, during the crisis around September 11. When it had happened, a call had gone out to the magical community in New York, and he'd answered it to do what he could. Which, as it turned out, hadn't been much, but he'd helped where he could, when he could. It was the least he could do.

"Yeah," he said with a shrug. "Plus, to everyone there we have 'very cute accents' - " he said that putting on his best New York falsetto, then snorted and shook his head. "It was time to come home though. And I'll take you up on it, no argument. It's either that or move back in my mum, and we both know I'd rather starve..." Not that he didn't love his family, but he was a grown man.

He should probably tell Seamus why though, just to get it out of the way. And his face fell a little as he said, "Mum's sick."

"I'm sure all the birds over there wanted to have a go just because of your accent. There's a few American clients who moved here that always tell me they love my accent," The one, a little old lady who is going a bit senile and insisted that she had a pack of werewolves living in her backyard.

Seamus's face dropped. "What?! What's wrong??" Dean's family were like a second family to him, with all the summers he spent at Dean's place.

"Some of the blokes, too," Dean admitted with a wink, but the last question darkened his mood again, and he worried his lip with his teeth and he shrugged. "It's a type of cancer. Long name I can't pronounce, but her doctors say with treatment she has a real good chance, so it's not one of the horrible ones, you know? She's already started though, and she needed me home to help take care of things. So..." he trailed of and then tried to lighten the mood, grinning and bumping his shoulder against his friend's, "It wasn't entirely about missing you that dragged me back. Sorry for your ego."

If Seamus hadn't been distracted by the face that Dean's mum was sick, he'd have raised an eyebrow at the blokes comment. "Psht, it's always about me, I don't know what you're talking about," he winked, but then leaned over to give Dean a genuine hug. "I really am sorry, mate. If there's anything that I can do, please let me know. How's your da taking it? And the girls? Do the girls know?"

"Dad's fine, just worried. And he wanted to retire this year, so I don't know where that is..." Dean shrugged, hugging back and leaning in against Seamus when he let go of it. It was nice to have the steady weight of his friend there to lean against, really. He hadn't realized how much he'd missed that. "The girls know. We're just going to stay positive about it. The doctors say we have no reason not to, really."

Seamus put his arm around Dean and let him lean in. He missed his friend too, and having him there brought a sense of familiarity back into his life. He just hated that the reason he had to come back was because there was something wrong at home. "At least it's something they can fix. It's just bollocks that it's happening to your mum."

Time to change the subject into something lighter. "I'm getting World Cup tickets through one of the guys at work whose cousin plays for Wales. You want in? I think they're going to be box seats, but we could probably sneak down into the real seats to be crazy."

"Hell yeah I do," Dean beamed a brighter smile at that, laughing. "Cor, the World Cup. Now I feel old, you know? It's been what... eleven years since we went to that first one?" Babies born were entering Hogwarts from the time they'd watched Krum take that feint. How weird was that?

"Yeah it was. It's so crazy...I can't believe we're old," he said, making a cringing face. "It'll be good to go again though. I didn't make the last one. I think I was just starting my training and couldn't afford to take the time off. Plus Ireland lost, so I think I would've hexed someone in anger if I did go," Seamus laughed.

"I think the last one was right before I left, yeah? Mum and dad were still dragging me about to relatives and talking about their son going off to the States for school. Most exciting thing that had ever happened to them." He laughed at the memory of that, it had been like a lame little national tour for him.
