And suddenly, in a matter of moments, the conversation took a turn. Lucy looked down at the pint glass of butterbeer sitting in front of her. Her eyes were focused on the condensation sticking to the glass as she chewed on the bottom of her lip. She couldn't deny she hadn't expected this subject matter to be brought up.
At the same time, she wasn't sure what she could say, either. She found herself in a tricky position. If she said something in defense of Nikolas, she could have both Roger and Nikolas miffed with her. Roger, for defending Nikolas and perhaps Nikolas wouldn't be too keen with her talking for him.
So, she stole a look toward Nikolas, an apologetic look flickering across her face before she busied herself with her butterbeer.
