Who: Wayne and Alfie
What: Hospital Wing Visit
Where: Hospital Wing
When: Today
Rating/Warning: TBA

Alfie had thought what Wayne did during the Quidditch game was brilliant, taking the bludger that way. But he hadn't thought about actually going to visit the other Beater until Professor Sprout asked him today to go by the hospital wing and give him his work for the last few days.

Work? While you were in hospital? Alfie thought that seemed even more likely to make someone hurt or sick while they were there than helping them get out. But when your Head of House asked you to do something, you didn't really worry about it much as you went. So he packed up the satchel and headed to the hospital wing. There, he found that Wayne was the only occupied bed - it made it easier to find him, at least.

"You're not asleep, are you?" He asked as he came up to sit down in the seat beside the bed.

Wayne had no recollection of what happened between taking that bludger and waking up in the hospital wing. He had woken up in the middle of the night, surprised to find himself looking up at the buttressed ceiling of the infirmary instead of the canopy of his bed.

The bed in the hospital wing wasn't nearly as comfortable as in his dorm room, but he still managed to get plenty of rest--mostly thanks to Madame Pomfrey's potions. He no loner felt groggy or concussed, but he was still grateful for the ability to rest semi-comfortably away from the hubbub of the corridors and the common room... Though he did find himself wishing for company on occasion.

Wayne rolled over to face Alfie when he heard his teammate's voice. "Just dozing a bit, mate," he said with a grin. "Let me guess... Professor Sprout made you my homework owl, eh?"

"End up here a lot to know that?" Alfie laughed, but he sat the bag down by Wayne's side. "I barely want to do work when I feel great, don't know why anyone should be expected to do it when you're hurt."

Wayne chuckled, and sat up straight in his bed. "Yeah, but that's the problem with living in a school, isn't it? I reckon we can call it 'paying the rent'." He looked down at the bag, but decided it could wait a bit. He was glad for Alfie's company. "So how are things on the other side of the door, then? Are the Gryffindors still celebrating?"

"No, not really..." Alfie shrugged. "I don't know what's happened, most of them seem happy about something else now." The few he'd talked to, like Parvati who'd stopped him in the hall for something the other day, seemed to have almost forgotten about Quidditch, like something else was better.

"Well... As long as they're happy about something, I suppose," Wayne said with a shrug. Part of him wondered if it was something involving the D.A., considering how Gryffindor-heavy that club was. He didn't carry his coin during matches, so if anything was happening in that respect, he'd have to hear it from elsewhere.

"What about our house?" he said. "What about you? Surely you've got something good going on, yeah?"

"Just school work," Alfie shrugged. He'd seen Julien a bit too, but not as much as he wanted to, and he frowned a little, but then pushed it aside and dug into the bag, holding Wayne's journal out. "Brought you this too, though. In case you wanted to skive off work and talk to your mates and all."

"Oh! Cheers," Wayne said, taking the book and starting to flip through it. "This will help me... catch up... as... well... Oh!"

He read Ginny's note to the D.A. that everyone was safe.

Then he read Harry's note that something might happen at Hogwarts.

"Fucking hell," he growled, setting his journal down open on his lap. He closed his eyes and rubbed his head as if fending off a headache. Why did they have to come to Hogwarts? Why couldn't they just leave the place alone? When was the madness going to end?

Alfie had been about the say something, but then Wayne's reaction to the journal made him jump a little.... and then almost made him ridiculously curious, especially with him looking like he had a sudden migraine.

"What? What happened?" Which might have been pushy, or rude, but Alfie didn't have censors sometimes.

"Hm?" Wayne looked at Alfie, and then back at his journal. "Oh, it's... It's just..."

He sighed. Alfie wasn't in the D.A. and didn't know what was going on. But if something was going to happen at Hogwarts, he needed to know.

"Alfie, I have something very important I think I should tell you," he said, "But you have to keep it absolutely secret. I'm not kidding when I say your life could depend on it."

Alfie blinked at him a few times, and he thought for a second that Wayne was having him on - and he was going to laugh uncomfortably and have a go at it - but Wayne seemed so... serious.

Alfie frowned after a second, but then nodded. "Okay..."

Wayne bit his lip as he watched Alfie's reaction, as if his friend was waiting for a punchline that wasn't coming.

"I only wish I was taking the piss, mate," he said, and held up the page with Harry's note, even though it would appear blank to Alfie's eyes. "There's a message here from Potter... There's a possibility that... um... something bad might happen here."

He sighed. "There's a group of us that have been working on defensive spells and such... It started last year, and there are a lot of people in it. We're all in it because we want to keep each other safe. We've all taught each other a lot. I couldn't have cast a Patronus if it wasn't for the... group."

"You can cast a Patronus?!" Alfie caught that before he processed the rest, and he was staring wide eyed with a sort of awe at Wayne for a second before the rest of it sunk in.

"Wait, from Potter? He's writing? He's okay?"

"Yeah, he's fine," Wayne said, with a slight chuckle. "And everything the Prophet and the Ministry are saying about him is fucking bollocks."

A mischievous grin crossed his face. "You wanna see it?"

"Well, I figured that..." Alfie hadn't figured it, actually, until almost everyone he'd known had been saying it was rubbish, and even so he still read it... But he'd listened to that Potterwatch show, too, and that seemed like the real news.

"What? Sure!" But Alfie caught on slowly, but he did catch on, and before Wayne could show off he said, "What do you mean, something bad? Here?"

Wayne had already drawn his wand when Alfie asked his question. "Something bad, as in everyone who has made Harry's life a living hell is probably on their way here to start some trouble." He shook his head--he hated sounding like a character out of a silly American shoot-em-up film. "But that's what the group's for, yeah? That's why we've learned to do stuff like this..."

He sat up and closed his eyes, concentrating hard on his one most precious, happiest moment... Amazing how something so simple as a kiss could fuel something so powerful.

"Expecto Patronum," he pronounced, boldly and clearly. With a burst of white mist, a ghostly-looking cockerel with small spurs on its legs appeared in the middle of the hospital floor, its head darting around as if it was scanning the room for danger.

"Why would they come here though?" Alfie didn't want to believe that was possible. "Potter's not here anymore.." And he'd have gone on, maybe asking about the group, too, except that Wayne cast the Patronus there and Alfie's eyes went shock-wide again, maybe a little bit of hero worship in them as he gaped at the dancing, darting cockerel.

Wayne watched Alfie's reaction with a small amount of pride, but they had to be serious again for a moment. The patronus moved next to them, settling next to Alfie, watching the door, the boys, and the rest of the room with its constantly moving head.

"Alfie, mate, if they're trying to draw Harry out, this is a perfect target. It's a second home to him. His friends are here. And even if it's not directly against Harry, these bastards are so bleeding mental that they wouldn't think twice about hurting a bunch of kids just to get their message across."

Alfie's attention was more on the patronus than on Wayne - he wondered what would happen if he reached out to touch it, but he didn't dare. It could bite him, or worse he could do something to it and make it evaporate or something?

"Oh," he said, finally dragging his eyes back to his mate in the bed. "I didn't think about that..." Now that he did, it made a lot of bloody sense. In a completely terrifying sort of way. "You know my mum's muggleborn?" He wasn't sure what prompted him to say it, really.

Wayne's eyes widened at Alfie's concession. "Oh..." was all he could muster in response. He was trying to be careful with his words, to not make it sound like being Muggleborn was bad, because it certainly wasn't in his mind... But his thoughts turned for a moment to Eloise's mum, already taken away from her home and family and now... No one really knew for sure.

"No, I didn't know," he said finally. "Is she all right?"

"Yeah, she is..." Alfie didn't look sure though, his owls from his mum came much fewer now, and she always sounded so tired. Like she was trying very hard to sound upbeat, and missing.
