There was still something that felt ridiculous in it despite knowing that she had powers. An uncomfortable echoing questioning of how from her time with Leonard. This wasn't that. Five never pushed her, never belittled her when she had doubt in herself. She never expected that from him anyway. Five was prone to having a mouth with anyone else, but not Vanya. If she wanted to stop, they stopped. It was a nice change from push after push to excel that was misplaces and had nothing to do with her own well being in finding control. But she was getting the hang of not feeling ridiculous when she wasn't just pretending to wave her hands and make something happen. She genuinely had the ability and accepting that was the first step to owning it for herself. She had power, she could use it, it was real, and she didn't want to keep being the bomb. The threat just waiting to happen. Losing control like that again wasn't an option. That wasn't what Vanya wanted to be.
Not too long ago, they went antique and music shop hopping for another violin since hers was left back in the other timeline. She wasn't using that with her powers yet, though. It was still a daunting thought considering everything, giving her the equivalent of a lightning rod that she could aim back. There was something to Reginald's method without the constant disapproving commentary in the background. They kept it quiet when she was practicing and it was fortunate for them lately the weather was mild and there weren't any thunderstorms. It was something more tangible to focus on, the ting off a fork on a glass and magnifying it, using it. She started with small, expendable things, raiding the recycling became useful for material it didn't matter if she destroyed.
"Okay..." She breathed in and out, tapping the fork on the edge of the glass and focusing on using that sound to shatter the glass bottle a safe distance away. She was getting better, though there were still times she would miss when she lost her focus. It was like learning to shoot bottles, just with your mind. That was... some sort of reasoning to grip onto. Trying to exercise more than one aspect of her power, Vanya came over to pick up the pieces, making an attempt at lifting the next bottle over into place... only she dropped it before getting it over the edge of the small table she was setting them on and it joined a shattered fate along with the other one.
"Shit," she sighed, scooping up those pieces of glass as well before setting out another one by hand. It hasn't been that long since you started, she reminded herself, glancing over at Five who had been watching her for an uncertain length of time. There were times she would start without him, though it might have been reasonably questionable if that was a good idea. Nothing terrible should happen as long as she was calm and what she was doing was intentional, right? With a smirk tugging at her lips, she stood up and walked back to where she had been a few feet away. "You jinxed me when you started watching," she teased in reference to dropping the bottle.
