Distressed wasn’t even going to begin to explain how Oikawa suddenly felt. He didn’t want to be stuck. Kissing Iwaizumi was one thing. He liked that he held all the power in that situation. Sure, Iwaizumi had asked him to do the kissing, but it had really been up to Oikawa on whether it happened or not. He could have just as easily laughed and left him there. Iwaizumi wasn’t about to have any trouble getting a kiss as it seemed. Now, though, it was suddenly all in Iwaizumi’s hands. Iwaizumi. His best friend. His best friend who was slowly getting a look of realization.
He knew Oikawa was stuck just as fast as Oikawa did and he was stepping away. He was actually stepping back!
“Iwa-chan!” There was a hint of panic tinting the edge of his tone. “No! Where are you going?!” He shook his head in disbelief, putting his hands on his hips. “Iwa-chan! You can! I know you can! Don’t be mean! Iwa!” Yet, Iwaizumi didn’t seem to care too much, because before Oikawa knew it, he’d disappeared from his line of sight.
It felt like he was practically vibrating with some kind of anticipation and yet Iwaizumi wasn’t coming back. It was the middle of the day, who was going to come around now? Certainly no one Oikawa wanted to kiss, not that he actually had a list of people he wanted to. So, he waited, what felt like forever before he finally moved to pull out his phone, staring at his contacts and wondering who would even bother to humor him. He was going to beat Iwaizumi up for this, or at least give him the cold shoulder.
“I’m going to kill you,” he yelled in some kind of last ditch effort as he pulled out his phone, pecking out a completely horrific message to Sugawara when he heard Iwaizumi come back around. He turned quickly toward the sound, brown eyes undoubtedly funny in how wide they probably were. He came back. Iwaizumi wasn’t going to abandon him for whatever reason. “I’m so sorry sorry sorry! Iwa-chan it was just a joke!” He nodded quickly and straightened up, tucking his phone back into his pocket so he could press his palms together. “You’re great, Iwa-chan. Please?” It was almost an after thought that he was actually asking Iwaizumi to kiss him now and he wasn’t sure if that was a strange sort of freeing feeling or the type that would make him nauseous in the end.
It ended up feeling like his internal organs were sinking. Here he was, presented with Iwaizumi ready to kiss him again and he didn’t know what to feel. Part of him was excited all over again, a part that he wondered if he should hate, but another part was just terrified. It went back to the control and circumstances. If he was the one giving Iwaizumi a kiss, it was easier to brush off, heave a laugh and just pretend it was all for the mistletoe. Yet, if Iwaizumi kissed him? How was he supposed to just… go on like nothing happened if he liked it. He swallowed, but steeled himself to not show any of the fluttery anxiousness growing in him and put on his best smirk. “Ready when you are…unless you think you’ll like it or something and will never be able to kiss anyone else ever again. I have that effect on people.” A cocky lie, but it felt more natural to pull a joke in a tense moment, like it might diffuse something between them. He wasn't sure he could, though. It already felt like too much and Iwaizumi hadn't even gotten closer to him yet.
