When: September
Where: Their new home (gifted via Lantern Festival)
Rating: PG-13
Status: In Progress
It wasn't a mansion, but the house they had been gifted did have enough rooms for plenty of guests. Or siblings. The higher powers seemed to know exactly what Five and Vanya needed down to the balcony view they often retreated to towards the end of the day. It felt like home surprisingly quickly, even if it felt too big to be just for the two of them. Five had hoped by now, a year into their arrival, the others might have shown up. The house could have been a sign they would still arrive -- if Five believed in things like that. He wasn't an optimist, but on some good days, he could pretend to be one. Both he and Vanya continued to work on their abilities in this new home. Five had gotten to the point where he could stop time and rewind nearly a minute back before a headache started up. It was a step in the right direction, although he hoped to be farther along before leaping into the universe to find the rest of their family. There was more progress for him and Vanya’s relationship, too. If they had been close as children, that had doubled now. She was a factor he considered in his every thought. If he left to find their family, would he take her? What was the risk of leaving her behind, and would she ever forgive him? Would Five be able to live with the choice to just be happy with the life he had with her? Never chasing storms again? And if he did go down that path, he would need to tell Vanya he loved her, and not like a brother. He had a feeling she already knew, though. Their relationship was its own peculiar thing. They shared their lives, occasionally fought and slept in the same bed. She made him coffee, and he did the dishes. It was almost platonic if it weren't for the lingering gazes and that funny instinct that told him to protect her and just give in. There wouldn't be anyone else real for him besides her. He needed to say it now. Getting that out in the open would help him decide what came next for both of them. It was a typical evening when Five brought it up. They had drinks on the newly decorated balcony where Vanya liked to do her reading, although for once Five had barely touched his. He moved his glass aside for the time being – out of arm’s reach so Vanya could only break it to bits if she used her powers. He hoped her reaction wouldn’t be that dramatic, but when emotions were a factor, it was sometimes better to play it safe. "I wanted to say something about us." He also wanted to lean closer, but held himself back instead. "What we have going now... it can be enough for me. I just want to keep building a life with you. I don’t need us to be a normal couple." He was only half addressing the real topic, but some preamble was necessary in this case. He blinked, eyes soft as a small smile appeared. "But I only want you. That's the catch." If he had said all of this in a school uniform and just as sincerely, he doubted Vanya would be able to see past it. But they were both adults now. They were on even footing from both perspectives. "Our family’s already weird as shit, so it’s no surprise I'm in love with you. If you only think of me as a brother, just tell me." |
