To say that the air was full of excitement, the kind of tension you got before a match, the whole world watching, was probably false. To everyone else, it was just a day like any other. It had been boring until time for dinner came around, and Bokuto had done his best to make it a night to remember. Luckily, probably for the both of them, most of the chaos came before the date, with Bokuto making phone calls and figuring out exactly where to take Akaashi for dinner that would be good enough to have the evening end like he was hoping for. The idea that he probably didn't have to do anything was in an entirely different realm of thought. It was hard to tell if he’d ever feel like he could stop trying to impress Akaashi. He always wanted him to think highly of him, so it only seemed natural that Bokuto would try to be the best he could.
Probably for the better of both of them, most of the chaos happened before the actual date, while Bokuto was frantically figuring out all the details, which involved asking a good bit of random people for their opinions.
In the end, they ended up at a little place called Tidewater, which was, thankfully, not covered in water but did have a view. It had taken a trip to the station and a short ride but when Bokuto actually saw the place he was glad for it. It definitely wasn’t the most blatantly fancy places, but everyone looked nice, and it was probably one of those ‘a little bit out of the way but worth it’ sort of spots that mostly locals went to for something nice but not crowded. Overall, a pleasant experience, with attentive staff and good food that Bokuto actually sort of recognized enough to be confident in ordering. Yet, it wasn’t about the dinner. Not really. Not for him. Sure, he wanted Akaashi to enjoy it and be satisfied, but Bokuto’s mind was more what was going to happen afterwards.
He probably couldn’t tell you how good the food was, even if he enjoyed it while he was eating it, but he could tell you all about how nice Akaashi looked sitting next to the window while the light slowly changed outside. It was still mostly light out when they left, but Bokuto made a point to hold Akaashi’s hand as much as he was allowed along their way home with carrying degrees of tightness.. He figured the sun trying it’s hardest to stay up in the sky just a little longer was probably some kind of metaphor, but on a good day he wouldn’t be able to come up with it. So, he just gradually increased his steps, eager to get back to their dorm. He didn’t think Akaashi was much one for PDA, so he waited, anxiously, until he was able to get the door shut before all but yanking Akaashi to him so he could finally kiss him.
It didn’t last long enough, and he doubted he could get tired of showing Akaashi affection, but when he pulled back to look at him he was all bright eyes and a huge grin. “Was dinner good enough, Keiji?”
