Summer seemed to have flown by so far, or at least it seemed like it to Sora. He was sure it had to do with the fact that he was having fun — most of his time was spent with Riku, and when they two of them weren't joined at the hip, he was with his other classmates, thrilled to have the chance to just be a normal kid for the first time in a few years. Running around the campus and city, hanging out on the boardwalk, swimming. It was nice, and it was like the more time he spent laughing with others or soaking up the sun, the more distant the worst parts of what he'd been through became.
He definitely didn't miss the nightmares that had been a frequent thing right after he'd arrived, though really, once he'd started sleeping with Riku, a lot of that had cleared up, or at least he'd been able to assure himself that his boyfriend was there, and safe, and fall back into a more restful sleep. And with the sun bright above him as he lazed about on the beach, that sort of thing was the furthest from his mind as it could possibly be. His hair was drying in messier than usual spikes as he glanced over at Riku, and he couldn't help the soft, warm way he smiled at him.
It still felt a little unreal, sometimes, that they'd ended up together, though those brief moments were also fading the longer they were there with no heartless showing up, or one of them being dragged off in one way or another. There really seemed to be no way in or out of Winterdale without whatever native magic was at play there, and to say it was a relief was a huge understatement. Sora was more than happy to have the weight of the universe off their shoulders. He wouldn't hesitate to fight again if needed, but he was finally mostly convinced he'd never have to. Not like he had in the past, anyway.
Brushing those thoughts away, too, he scooted to the side slightly, closing the distance between him and Riku. He settled his head against his shoulder, enjoying the feel of warm skin against his, the way his heart still skipped a beat any time he remembered he could be close like this now. It was peaceful here, with just the sound of the waves against the shore, the wind, the distant chatter and laughter of other beach-goers. Sora didn't feel any particular need to be a chatterbox around Riku when it was like this — as much as they teased and bickered and joked, he loved this just as much, settling into Riku's quietness.
Though after another long moment, he asked, "Anything on your mind?" as he found Riku's hand with his so he could tangle their fingers together.
