For the most part, the rest of winter and start of spring had passed peacefully for Ignis. It was still strange at times to have no meetings to rush off to, no state business to take care of, no training to do or hunt to go on. He'd have more free time in the past few months than he'd likely ever had in his life. He wouldn't have been surprised if he felt restless at times, but had found that he hadn't. There was still plenty to do, and so much time to make up for. Being with Noctis was the most indescribably wonderful thing to ever happen to him. He didn't care if he still caught their friends rolling their eyes at them. He loved Noct and didn't have to pretend otherwise anymore. All the teasing in the world was worth it.
But there had been a growing number of moments that were a little off. Nothing like the tense awkwardness that had built between himself and Noctis before they had finally talked, but skips in the way they all usually interacted that were noticeable enough for Ignis to mark. Times when Prompto would be curled against him, warm and comfortable, only for the blonde to suddenly jump up as if shocked and find an excuse to scurry away. He'd witnessed the same with Prompto and Noct at time or two, and it was starting to bother him. He didn't like Prompto being jumpy and anxious around him. Once or twice he might have written off, but it had been happening more frequently.
And as for Gladio, there was the flirting. With all of them. Ignis found himself flirting back easily because it wasn't exactly anything new. They'd always been playful, Gladio had always been a little flirtatious, usually obviously, teasingly so, and he'd never taken it seriously, but recently… well. What was new was how often Ignis thought back to that kiss under the mistletoe, how he had wanted to keep kissing him. How he still wanted to, in a way that frustrated him. He had Noct, and that was much more than he'd ever dared ask for. So why were his other two friends constantly on his mind as well, and in a decidedly more than friendly manner?
Ignis let out a slow breath. Oh, he knew why. He might have spent a good bit of time trying to ignore the why, but he wasn't stupid. Gladio had been his best friend and closest confidant for years, and Prompto had slipped into his affections without even trying soon after Noct had introduced them. After everything they'd been through together it shouldn't have been a shock to realize how much deeper his feelings potentially went. The problem was fully admitting to it. The problem was the risk there. He knew he should start by talking to Noctis, to see if he'd noticed anything, the little shifts between them all, and yet he hesitated.
He wasn't certain what to do, but he was certain something needed to be done, and likely soon.
Any thought he had to spare for his book was gone, but he tried to resume his place again anyway. Fretting things to death wouldn't help, either, and with it so still being so early in the day, it would be some time before he was able to settle in somewhere with Noctis for a conversation, if he could even decide how to go about it. It took some effort, but he'd finally, almost got lost in magical theory again when the sound of familiar footsteps drew his attention. He could still recognize all his friends simply by the way they moved without seeing them.
"Gladio, good morning," he greeted from where he was stretched out on the couch. He shifted so his long legs weren't taking up most of the room and nodded towards the recently vacated half, an invitation for the other man to sit if he wanted. "Any plans for the day?" At least he could still manage to hold normal conversations with everyone.
