Kuroo had been right. Their conversation wasn't totally one meant to be had over text. He'd had his suspicions, and having someone else mention it, just made him think about it even more. Though, if someone else noticed the special treatment, and it did seem to extend past the genuine niceness Kuroo held with all his teammates, then maybe Kenma wasn't just imagining it, or having some sort of weird wishful thinking. Yet, there was the fact that Kuroo had never said anything about it, or did anything. What that meant, Kenma didn't exactly know. For all he was good at reading and understanding people in general, Kuroo was still an enigma at times, for better or worse.
It wasn't like Kenma had done anything about it either.
Then again, it wasn't until Kuroo was gone to college that Kenma realized just how much he wanted Kuroo around moreso than tolerated him. It hadn't been the easiest pill to swallow. He wasn't going to be some kind of annoying younger kid friend that bugged Kuroo while he had his college courses. They could live separate lives, as annoying or boring as that was. It had been a huge factor in his leaving, trying to find himself maybe, or figure out his life. Yet, Kuroo was here, too, but not the one that had left him, or not yet. It was weird to suddenly be the same age as Kuroo, but he had been so familiar, Kenma didn't even really question any of it too much. It was the Kuroo he had missed, and even though he hadn't joined the volleyball team, Kuroo was still just as nice to him.
So when it came up again and again, he couldn't help but wonder. He had never really believed in anything like fate or something equally ridiculous. That was something that happened in videos games to explain why the main character did what they did. It was dumb to think about things like that too much, or maybe it was just easier to go with the idea that they didn't exist. Still, he couldn't deny that having Kuroo close now wasn't giving him a few mixed feelings, and even if it wasn't fate, it might've been some kind of second chance.
As he let himself into Kuroo's room, he fished out what resolve he could and carefully shut the door behind him before wandering over to the bed and making himself at home, laying down on his back on Kuroo's covers. He took a deep breath, looking at the ceiling for a couple seconds before shifting a little to get a good line of sight to Kuroo. "I think I like you."
