What Tomorrow Brings, Chapter 3
Fandom: BtVS
Rating: FRAO (This part U)
Pairing: Willow/Giles (who else? They are perfection!) with mention of Willow/Kennedy (the skank! Die, bitch, DIE!)
Summary: Life after Sunnydale. If you couldn't tell, I suck at summaries!
Spoilers: None
Setting: AU post-Chosen
Feedback: Pretty please. Constructive criticism is always welcome. If you want to flame me, well okay, I have cattle prods. And chainsaws.
Disclaimer: I don't own these characters (if I did Willow would be with Giles where she belongs!); I just hijack them and take them out for a joyride every now and then. Also, I have no beta, so any and all mistakes are solely mine.
Chapter Three
Willow awakened to Giles returning to the room bearing two styrofoam cups and a small bag. He handed her one cup, set the other one down on the nightstand, and reaching into the bag, presented her with a toothbrush and toothpaste.
"Giles!" she squealed, "You're the best!"
She took the precious items and dashed off to the bathroom, leaving Giles with an amused smile. He settled back on his bed, sipping his tea. When Willow returned from the bathroom, she sat on her own bed and picked up the tea he'd brought for her.
"Thank you, Giles. I feel almost human now," she smiled.
"You're welcome. I suppose we should be getting everyone together and start off for Los Angeles. Then we need to sort out what's to be done and where everyone is going."
"I know," she sighed, "It just it's nice to sit here and relax. You know, without the pressure of an impending apocalypse staring us in the face."
" I agree, but the sooner we get to Los Angeles, the sooner we can get these girls back to their homes and their normal lives. Or at least as normal as they can be, given that they're all Slayers now."
"And we can get to England and start the new Council."
"Precisely."
"Okay," she finished the last of her tea, "Let's get this show on the road."
They dropped their empty cups in the trash can and headed out the door, where Willow promptly bumped into a stunned Kennedy. The shock immediately transformed into anger.
"You bitch!" she snarled, "We haven't even been broken up for a whole day and you're already crawling in bed with someone else? A guy? That fossil? You slut!"
"Now see here," Giles began, but Willow cut him off.
"Listen here, Kennedy. I don't owe you any explanations for anything I do, but I'm going to tell you this. Giles was nice enough to let me stay in his room after I locked myself out of mine and there was no one at the front desk. That's all there was to it, not that it's any of your business. We're through and whatever I do isn't any concern of yours. But if you ever attack me or Giles that way again, well, you'll make me very cranky, and you don't really want to deal with that, do you? Ask Buffy, Dawn and Xander what it's like to deal with me when I get cranky, if you think you can," her voice was measured, calm, and cold.
With a hint of fear in her eyes, Kennedy turned and stalked off towards the bus. Willow turned to Giles.
"I'm sorry you had to put up with that, Giles. She had no right to say those things. I think she's going to be difficult to deal with until we send her on her way."
"It's quite all right, Willow. You can't control what Kennedy says or does. But I think you handled her and the situation wonderfully. You showed remarkable restraint."
"Really? Thanks. I'm afraid we're going to have more trouble with her before she leaves. And you will be one of her targets now."
"I expect nothing less. But it's only right. I'm afraid that I helped create the situation."
"What do you mean? How did you have anything to do with it?"
"When I was bringing her and the others to Sunnydale, Annabelle kept asking me if the Slayer was going to be enough to protect them, so I told her that there was also a powerful witch there to help keep them safe. That's how Kennedy knew about your powers."
"Oh, Giles, you couldn't have known what she would do. You were trying to reassure some frightened girls who thought they were going to die."
"Well, shall we go to Los Angeles? The sooner we get there..."
"The sooner we're away from Kennedy and on our way to Merrie Olde England?" she grinned.
"Something like that, yes."
They climbed aboard the bus and moved toward the back, well away from Kennedy who was casting venomous looks in their direction.
After picking up Robin and Faith at the hospital, the bus resumed its' journey to L.A. Once there, their first stop was at Angel Investigations, to reassure Angel of Buffy's continued existence and to make arrangements to send out the new Slayers. Faith, Robin, and Vi opted for Cleveland, with its' Hellmouth, while Shannon, Rona and the younger ones went home to finish school. Kennedy decided to go to Brazil after one last attempt to lure Willow back. But Willow was having none of it. She wanted nothing more than to see the last of the power junkie Slayer. Buffy and Dawn were heading for Rome after Giles told them that the vampire population was almost non-existent. Xander came to the conclusion that Africa was where he wanted to go. He promised Willow he would send her a postcard as soon as he could. They shared a tearful hug before he boarded his plane.
"I love you, Xander," she whispered.
"I love you, too, Willow," he answered, reaching into his pocket. He pulled out a yellow crayon and pressed it into her hand, "I want you to take this and when you look at it, remember that wherever I am I'm still your friend and I still love you."
Willow turned, sobbing, only to be enveloped in Giles' comforting arms. He held her and stroked her hair as he murmured soothing words. When she calmed, he took her back to the hotel. They would leave in the morning for London. The next morning they shared a room service breakfast before going to the airport. After they were seated (Giles had gotten them first class tickets) he turned to Willow and was amazed at what he saw. Her face was set in her famous 'resolve face' and she had a white-knuckled death grip on her seat's arms. He smothered a chuckle. The girl could face vampires, demons, even Buffy on a bad hair day, but a simple plane flight absolutely terrified her. He wondered how she'd managed the flight back to Sunnydale from England the previous summer. He tried to distract her from her fear by engaging her in a conversation about the new Council and what they needed to do first in re-establishing it. She paid attention until the plane began taxiing down the runway. Then she squinched her eyes shut and held on for dear life. After they were airborne, she let out a deep breath and resumed the conversation with Giles. They chatted quietly between themselves, until Willow's eyes grew heavy.
"I think I'm going to try to sleep a little. It'll make the flight seem shorter," she told him.
"I think I shall try to do the same."
"Wake me up when we get to England," she joked.
