WHO: Laurie Everett & Libby Hale
WHEN: Saturday, December 14, 2013 - Lunchtime
WHERE: Cafeteria
WHAT: Eating or playing with his food, it’s not really clear which
RATING: Low
STATUS: Incomplete
A lot of things in this life met with Laurie’s approval; he was generally just sort of an approving, easily entertained guy. Things like pasta, cheese, crackers, ice cream sandwiches and food in general received the highest approval rating of all, which naturally meant that the cafeteria was one of his favorite locales (even if they tended to be a light on the ice cream sandwiches). Narrowing his eyes, he inspected the peas resting on his spoon, then flicked one experimentally, letting it roll across the table. It didn’t quite make it to the other end or fall off the table, so as he often did, Laurie dug around in his backpack and pulled out three toys: a robot, G.I Joe, and Superman figure. After an animation-infused touch, Superman haltingly strolled to the pea and picked up, bringing it back to the young man and dropping it next to his plate. Its directive accomplished, the toy froze in place again.
Done with his spoon after clearing his plate of peas, Laurie decided he was finished with the utensil and set the toy robot to grab it and mill around the table with it, like a metallic sentry. As he was poking at the sandwich, it occurred to him that he might try animating his food again. He’d made the effort last year, but ended up with plate of potato chips that sat in place and quivered unappetizingly. (It had been months before his friends present could eat potato chips without their stomach turning.) Thinking it over, he perched his chin in his palms and surveyed the room.
Catching sight of a familiar blonde head, Laurie began hissing at her and motioning her over in big movements. “Libby. Liiiiiibby. C’mere.” His voice fell somewhere between a whine and the hiss it began as, sounding like a stage whisper, courtesy of the whiny sort. Lifting his hand, he beamed at the girl and waved vigorously, as if he hadn’t seen her in weeks. While he was doing so, his green robot began walking toward the edge of the table, his spoon in its grasp, and teetered, on the verge of falling to the ground.
