Who: Shoyo Hinata & Toru Oikawa
What: Moving back in
When: Tuesday Afternoon (Backdated)
Where: Lupine #304
Status: Closed, Ongoing
Warnings: Probably G! TBA! Lotsa fluff!

Hinata could not deny that he was nervous.

Why? That part was still coming to him.

According to the Department of Anomalies, everything was just the same as before he had left all those years ago. The only person who'd lost time was him. Gained time was probably a better way to put it. Shoyo Hinata from the Karasuno parking lot. Except, when he'd left home a second time, they'd grown far beyond a parking lot status. He'd never forgotten Eerie Harbor. The memories he'd made here had been too real to ignore. Deep down, he'd known that whatever this was, was more than just a dream.

Shoyo never had found out the true reason as to why he'd sprouted wings the first time. He'd thought that maybe it was a side-effect to being incompatible with the world. Magic being real was still something he had to digest. In a way it was both a relief and a disappointment. Wings were a responsibility, just like taking care of an extra arm or a leg. The upkeep wasn't something to joke about, and he was thankful for Necrosis for his teachings. It would have been really cool to learn how to fly though.

Going home had been bittersweet. Okay, being the ace just like he'd visioned it had been just as awesome. Being able to play was just as exhilarating as he'd remember. Nothing when compared to playing on the same team as Oikawa, Bokuto, Akaashi, and Noya here in Clio, but just as much fun. He'd seen them back home. At nationals he bumped into Akaashi and Bokuto, cheering on Fukurodani as they played. He got to watch Noya graduate. Meanwhile Oikawa...Hinata hadn't seen since the Shiratorizawa game two years ago.

All this portal jumping around stuff was getting confusing.

Being caught up in the past was one thing. Time to focus on the present.

Hinata knew how to get back to the dorm. He was surprised he'd remembered after all this time. A wave of nostalgia washed over the red-head as he rode in the backseat of the agent escorting him back to the dorms. Looking out the window and seeing the familiar seaside town got him excited. Once he moved back in, he vowed to go out an explore the town a little bit. Most of his time back in the December he'd arrived had been going back and forth from school and the Halfway House, not so much into town. Had he not vanished, he probably would have been bumped to deliveries at Pizzazz Pizza. Think they'll give me my old job back? He chuckled at the thought.

"Hey! I'm back!" Shoyo proclaimed as he entered the room, dropping his things onto the ground as he noticed Oikawa.

He's just like I remember. Two years had passed by like a blink of an eye to Hinata. But to the Grand King, it had only been a few days. Does that make us the same age now? Panic started to settle in. Oikawa had always been two years older than him. Would he look at Hinata different now that he was older? Probably not. That just wasn't like him. But, Shoyo couldn't deny that the situation was a bit peculiar.

Hinata wrapped Oikawa in a hug, squeezing him tightly. Not too tight, as he still wanted to allow him some space to breathe. It was easier now to hold him close, since Shoyo had grown a bit taller. The setter had always towered over him, not even that would change with time. Shoyo held onto him for a bit too long, losing himself in the moment.

"I missed you." He murmured softly, slowly releasing Oikawa from his grip. "Uh, sorry. It's kinda sorta been like a few years for me. It's...good to see you. How are you?"

What is he thinking? Was that too much?

It had taken all of two days for the idea that Hinata wasn't actually coming home to settle in. One night, he could brush off, two was pushing it without hearing anything. Of course, he knew deep down that the boy didn't actually owe him anything in that sense. They weren't nearly as close as Akaashi was implying, or maybe they were and Oikawa was just in denial, either way, by the third day it felt like it didn't matter. As much as he might have worried or come up with strange theories in his mind, there wasn't much that he could actually do about the situation.

He'd spent most of the next couple days just staring at the television when there wasn't something to do. It was a mindless task, one that made time pass fairly quickly, and as much as he wanted to enjoy the personal time, the quiet, the worry and slight loneliness was starting to get him. He supposed he'd eventually get a new roommate, or he'd just eventually move out and feel less like someone taking up too much space.

Then Hinata showed up on the network like nothing much had happened. He wasn't sure what he was feeling in that moment, but he'd went through the other comments and Hinata was either telling a weirdly elaborate lie or he really had gone home, and maybe time meant nothing at all. Oikawa wasn't a philosophical type but even this was making his brain hurt. Instead of just waiting around he needed to get up and do something. In the end...that something had been to fold the laundry he'd done the day before then decided it wasn't distracting enough.

When he heard the door he all but threw the shirt he'd been holding onto the chair to take a small step and lean around to see Hinata come in, all set to crack a joke when he actually saw him.

There wasn't a whole lot of time to consider him, though, before Shoyo was suddenly hugging him, and the initial thought of he grew was solidified even further in Oikawa's brain as he felt those muscles squeeze him. When had that happened? Hinata was such a flighty thin thing when Oikawa had last seen him. He might have still been small, but there was just something different about him.

He barely gathered his thoughts enough to give a sort of weak hug back before Hinata moved away. It felt like his heart was pounding, and as he looked down it dawned on him why. He'd been cute before, but now? Hinata was...kind of hot. If he'd gone to Seijoh and been in Oikawa's year, he might've had a bit more trouble focusing.

Maybe he was just a bit biased. He'd been impressed by Hinata in some form since the first time he saw him.

He forced a small laugh, then it really hit him. Hinata wasn't the same boy he'd known a few days ago. He wasn't sure if that should be upsetting or what, but there would probably be a lot of time to overthink all of that. He just shook his head for the time being. Hinata was back. He was safe. He was...damn.

Oikawa huffed out a breath and reached forward, grabbing Hinata by the arm, and well that even felt different. Hinata just felt different now. That didn't stop Oikawa from pulling him in for another hug, or maybe it influenced it. If he wanted to be held again, he wasn't about to admit it. "I missed you, too, Chibi-chan." Though... "It's only been a few days, though. It must be hard for you. Don't worry over me."

He leaned back a little, even if he didn't quite let him go. "You'll have to tell me everything."

"Come on. It wasn't that long." Hinata stifled a little laugh under his breath. "Of course I was worried. It wasn't fair I went home and you didn't."

The very last thing Shoyo had expected was to be pulled back into a hug. He found himself sinking against Oikawa's grip. So soft. Even though he had grown a little bit since he'd last seen him, Oikawa still towered over him. In a way, it felt as though with his added height, that he fit perfectly right here in Oikawa's arms. I gotta stop thinking like that. But it was hard not to. When he'd gone back home, Oikawa was all he could think about. Just talking to him one more time.

Shoyo would make the most of this trip. In the event he'd wake back at home. If it was dream, it felt too real. All of it felt so real.

"If I remember right," Hinata murmured softly, his hands slowly finding Oikawa's. Soft. And so big. Setter hands. "I sort of owed you dinner again, right? I can catch you up on everything then." He looked back up at him, grinning stupidly as his cheeks flashed a shade of red. "G-gimme the benefit of the doubt, okay? It's sort of been awhile."

So many things to tell him. Nationals multiple times. Two more years of high school. His plans for the future, to go to Brazil and beyond to study and improve as a player. How he dreamed of one day playing at the Olympics. How he still wanted to kick Kageyama's butt at a game, and he'd do so soon. Maybe. Hopefully. Hinata was sort of nervous, but he really shouldn't. This was the Oikawa that took him to Olive Grove and watched him eat thirty breadsticks in a row. And the same one who still talked to him after Hinata destroyed one of his only ways to see. This is the Oikawa who had dealt with him for months back in the winter of this time, when he'd had wings and walk out of the bathroom sopping wet. It'll be fine.

"What do you say?" Hinata tilted his head. "If it's a yes, I have an idea where we can go! But it's a secret."

It was much easier to gather his thoughts once Hinata was back against him and he didn't have to actually look at him. Of course, that brought a whole new squirmy sensation deep in his abdomen. Still, it took quite a bit to really get him flustered, and he'd held plenty of girls, even if he didn't make a habit of hugging his teammates ever. Hugging Hinata was so different from that. He was short, but he wasn't exactly small or soft in the way a girl was and something about that was strangely appealing.

He gave a small hum, loosening his hold when Hinata's hands moved and for a moment he held his breath, glancing down as he took a moment to marvel at how different Hinata's hands also felt against his own.

"You actually remember that?" Of course Oikawa would, but it had been years for Hinata. There was so many things he could ask, but when he saw him flush, he didn't actually care about the answers if this was the outcome. "Sounds good." Maybe Hinata hadn't been so clueless to the fact that Oikawa had practically insisted on their outings being dates without ever explicitly stating the fact.

He nearly laughed, but instead of, he just took a turn for being amused, leaning in close enough that he could have easily bumped Hinata's forehead and nose with just a small motion. "You really gotta ask?" He did laugh then, giving Hinata's hands a squeeze before straightening and moving away a little.

"Take me somewhere nice, then." Nodding, he pulled back more fully, motioning toward Hinata's old room. "Most of your stuff is still here, if you want to go check it out."

Take me somewhere nice then.

The forehead bump made Hinata's cheeks glow redder. Any closer and they could have...

But they didn't.

Hinata's hands fell slowly to his sides as he watched Oikawa go. Back in the dorm room, it was clear that nothing had changed. It was still as trashed as he remembered, making a mental note to vacuum later. He took a knee to the carpet and held up one of the long feathers still left behind from when he'd stress molted on his last visit. It really hadn't been a dream. He blinked, leaving the feather on his dresser as he sifted around through his clothes to find something more presentable. Most of what he'd grown out of. He'd need to go shopping again. Hinata sighed as he pulled out a perfectly good suit that he'd worn to the winter formal, only to remember he'd cut holes in it for his wings. Great. That wasn't a good start. Looks like his t-shirt and jeans was going to have to do.

The middle blocker took a second to scope out the local restaurants. Of the ones he remembered: primarily Pizzazz Pizza due to him working there for a few weeks, most of which were casual family dining establishments. Someplace nice. Stellaluna! That was the place. A higher end restaurant. Oikawa would like that, right? Last time they had gone to Olive Grove, that place was super good but this...this event felt different, Hinata owed it to him to bring him somewhere nice for once. Especially after disappearing for so long. Next time I'll learn how to cook. That way we can just stay in.

All he could do for now was try to tame his unruly flame-colored hair and put on some cologne.

Could this count as a date? Hinata usually didn't get asked to go on dates. Kageyama did though! He was really popular with girls and some boys too! Tsukkishima too for some reason, probably because he was as tall as a beanpole and girls liked tall guys or something. Whatever. Even if Hinata got asked he would have turned them down because he had a big fat stupid crush on...

"I'm back!" Hinata stood on his tip toes as he leaned over Oikawa's shoulders, grinning wildly. "I have just the place, prepare to have your mind blown!" He twirled around and offered his hand out to Oikawa. "Ready?"

Stellaluna was thankfully a brisk ten minute walk from the dorms, in the direction opposite of Olive Grove. They'd be there in no time.

Taking a short breather while Hinata changed gave Oikawa the chance to roll everything that had just happened around in his head. Shoyo was back. He was older. He was a little more handsome and a little less cute. Yet, still ridiculously magnetic. He remembered what he'd left, even after years. Oikawa wasn't quite ready to attempt to unpack that after the slight whirlwind of emotions he'd gone through. He probably hadn't even had a chance to really let the fact that Hinata was gone settle in before there he was, coming into their space like he'd never really left.

When Hinata came back around he smelled different, was dressed different, but he didn't really look different. Yet, despite any number of details, this was different, and Oikawa couldn't help but smile with a calm, "Ready," as he took Hinata's hand. A gesture he didn't bother to stop until they were well out the door and on their way.

The walk was short, but it was still more than enough time for Oikawa to settle back into the familiar feeling of having Hinata at his side, practically buzzing with energy. It was a sensation that almost felt infectious, because the more they walked, the more Oikawa just wanted to play. It was more than he'd wanted to in days. He wasn't even sure he wanted to eat anymore, when the other option was to whisk Hinata off somewhere with a net, to play with him. His sudden yearning to see just how the other had grown was easily outweighing the idea of something as simple as food.

He was still proving to be the kind of spiker that made you want to connect with him. At least, he made Oikawa want to set to him. Even though in the grand scheme of things they'd only been playing together for a short while, Oikawa knew he could trust Hinata on the court. It had been years since Oikawa struggled to sync with a new player, he was adaptive and it was his strong suit. He never went into a game expecting to fully control his team, but to use them and become the best support pillar he could. What kind of player Hinata had become was just making him overthink the possibilities. He itched to get out there, watch him jump, powerful legs shoving him into the air like he might take flight with just sheer will power alone...

But this is a date.

Whether or not Hinata was thinking it as such, Oikawa was going to treat it that way. It could have easily been still in the vein of simple payback for ruining Oikawa's contacts or making a mess, or any number of things really, but really it was better to prepare for the best outcome. He never walked into a game expecting to lose. This wasn't much different.

"Ah," he said when they got at the restaurant and gave Hinata a small tug inside. "So this is where you meant." He shouldn't have been surprised, but there was a little happy sensation at the thought. It was a nice place, and while he wouldn't went anywhere with Hinata, the fact that he thought to bring him here had to say something, as well.

Once they were inside, he told the hostess it was just the two of them and finally let go of Hinata fully to follow her to their table. He let Hinata sit before moving to sit across from him, glancing at the provided menu for a moment before back up. "This place is sort of romantic, don't you think? Are you trying to seduce me?"

"I am." Hinata leaned forward a little, grinning playfully. "Is it working?"

In that moment, a spark of bravery had overcome him. But the middle blocker couldn't deny that inside he was screaming. The last time he'd tried flirting like this was when Yachi asked him if he liked someone, then offered to have Hinata practice on her. He was thankful for her, she gave him a lot of tips on what to and what not to say. Though, she'd asked if they were for Kageyama, in which Hinata replied "No way. Not my type." He'd thought about telling her about Eerie Harbor many times, but even then he wasn't sure if she would even believe. Hinata'd rather she thought he was crazy for liking the Toru Oikawa, the grand king of all people, than her thinking Hinata was delusional and dreamed up a whole reality where they were roommates. And Hinata had grown wings, while Oikawa had helped dry said wings. Yeah. Yachi would tell him he had it bad.

Could she blame him though? Oikawa was pretty, and he knew it. Okay, understatement, he was beautiful. If he didn't play volleyball, he could be a model for sure. The way he carried himself with infectious confidence, attractive. The way his chocolate brown hair fell just perfectly between his eyes, Hinata wanted to run his hands through it. That when he laughed it made Hinata's heart go whoosh and beat a million times faster. Even on the court, his stance that struck fear into the souls of his enemies...Hinata could not deny it was kind of hot. Back when they'd first met it hadn't been. But watching Oikawa during practice, even being set to by him...it was wow, he was...wow.

He could still feel the phantom sensation of holding his hands. Hinata wanted to hold them again. If this was a date, then he hoped he wasn't failing at it.

Two years gives you a lot of time to think about things. When he'd been sucked back home, the setter had taken up a majority of Hinata's thoughts. Even through practice all the way up til he was back at the facility for his quarantine and questioning process. He wanted nothing more than a second chance. And now, he'd finally made it back.

Hinata let out a long, enamored sigh as he stared, the pink that rushed to his cheeks still there from earlier. Realizing too late that he was zoning out, he snapped back to attention after about a minute of the waitress saying "sir"!

"Oh! Sorry I'll have the-" Hinata flipped through the menu and pointed to the first thing he saw. "This! Yeah! The Mezze platter. And uh, a water." He didn't know what he ordered. It'd probably be pretty good, though. Mediterranean food and all that.

The waitress raised an eyebrow before nodding and heading off back to the kitchen, leaving he and Oikawa to themselves once again.

"So, what'd you wanna know?" Hinata prompted once they were alone. He went to go reach for Oikawa's hands again, but retracted them cautiously. Hopefully Oikawa didn't notice that. Hopefully. "It's uh, sort of a big question. I mostly just practiced and went to school. Tell me more about what I missed when I was away."

There was a moment of sheer delight when Hinata admitted to trying to seduce him. As silly and playful as it all was, it was still an incredibly bold statement to make for the once almost timid Hinata Oikawa had known off the court.
"Yeah. It is."

It was, but then again, given everything, it likely would've taken a lot less effort on Hinata's part to get anywhere with Oikawa. For better or worse, he could be blunt, didn't hide his emotions whether that meant screaming during a match or whining or seeming overly happy. If Akaashi had picked up on it, and Oikawa had been fairly certain that most of his attention was definitely not on him and on Bokuto, then anyone probably could have. It had been strange, his former teammates would've likely teased him mercilessly. It'd be like getting attached to Kunimi or Kindaichi. They were practically his children. Hinata's age. Yet, really, two years wasn't a lot in the grand scheme of things. Had they not been in high school, it would have seemed like nothing at all.

Yet, that wasn't even something he had to think about now. Hinata was here, back he guessed, and older. Was he on Oikawa's level now? It certainly circled back to volleyball but he had to wonder about other things. How much had Hinata grown? Had he dated? Hinata certainly seemed cute enough, and with that cheerful attitude, it was easy to imagine people would like him. Even if his classmates couldn't grasp it, he was sure anyone who played would understand. Hinata drew you in whether you wanted him to or not.

He may have been older, but it seemed that was one thing that hadn't changed.

Still, Hinata's company was nice, and Oikawa found himself happily just watching him, admiring the soft flush to his cheeks, the way the tips of his hair curled in all directions. Looking up and away to give his order had been easy enough before he was back to smiling at Hinata, a gesture that only grew as the seconds ticked on and it became apparent he was somewhat lost in thought.

His hand moved to stiffle a laugh and he gave the waitress an apologetic smile before she stepped away to do her thing.

"What were you thinking of?"

The question made him think, really think. What did he want to know? Everything, but that seemed far too broad, and asking certain things seemed like it might be pushing for dinner table talk. He was already having the thought in his mind that he hoped they'd have plenty of time for Hinata to tell him everything he wanted to.

A laugh did come then, and he nearly missed Hinata's hand moving. He let a second or two pass, weighing his options. Brush it off, or do something. He doubted it was some sort of reflex. Maybe he hoped it wasn't. "You were only gone a few days...I mostly practiced and went to school." He glanced down for a moment, considering again before reaching for Hinata's hand, an easy enough gesture that wasn't at all awkward even when the waitress came around to drop off drinks and leave again.

"Some man was looking for you, and some people said that eventually someone would be around to confirm you were completely gone." He looked at their hands, watched as he moved his thumb over the skin on the back of Hinata's hand. "I didn't want to believe you'd left...but now I'm just glad you're back and ok."
