[SK] Richard & OPEN
Richard Jordan, son of one Tracy Jordan and one Anna Maria Silva-Jordan, looked out at the landscape of the city of New York and sighed. The city was still called that by general acclimation. No one was really putting together any attempts to rename the city which had once been one of the jewels of the United States. One had to wonder about the definition of jewel when looking at the fact that this moniker was put on a city well known for crime and pollution. Or at least it had been. Now it was just known for the fact that Court existed nearby. Other than that, no one was really thinking about New York. Those who were still thinking were thinking hard about the fact that they were still alive and how to keep it that way. Those that weren't....well, they weren't thinking, they weren't worth worrying about. He pulled his often patched jacket around his body a little closer. It wouldn't keep the chill in his bones from getting worse, every time he came back to the city, he got the same chill. It had a lot to do with the city itself.
It all started here. The inferno that burned the world to a cinder had begun in the streets of New York. It had began taking lives in the Big Apple. It was here those he'd been told about had tried to take a stand. From what he'd heard, few of them actually managed to survive. Most of them were killed or worse. There actually was an 'or worse' to this story. Considering how many people had been eaten by the city itself when things went mad, there was definitely an 'or worse' in this story.
The wane sunlight coming down from above was filtered through clouds. The world still knew night and day, but only barely. The world was currently working in the direction of night. He needed to get into the city proper and under cover before night fell all the way. There was no telling when the Riders were going to decide to come thundering through, their black horses like a physical wind mowing down all that came before them. He didn't intend to be a victim of the Riders. Richard had promised his mother that much. He would make sure he didn't die in such an ignoble fashion.
Brushing his dark hair out of his eyes, he started down into the city itself at a jog. He'd reach the edges of the buildings before things got too much darker if he pushed himself. Considering how much he didn't relish being caught out in the dark, he was certainly going to see about pushing his limits.
Asphalt remains from a roadway continued their slow crumble in the direction of decline under his feet. It was about time to change his shoes. That of course meant looking to see if there were any still on bodies, if there were any about. Or nicking them out of a broken store...if there were any. He would really take the time to think about that later. Right now, he needed to get back into the city and under cover. He had something that if the Court found out about it, they were going to want his head on a stick. Well, technically they wanted his head on a stick anyway for having dealings with Magik, but that was a given and thus not worth thinking about. However, the book he'd found and hidden away was something they might not have known about. Something that might start to turn the tide. If they could just figure it out.
