Asher
The old town seemed to have a large nocturnal population. Larger than the diurnal one, anyway. That was probably why the Doctor had shifted his sleep schedule to allow him to wander the streets in the late evening. The most fascinating creatures seemed to be around then.

One of them he'd been watching for a while, a not-human with long, unusually coloured hair, and a habit of hiding behind it. Even more unusual when he stopped in the moonlight, and - yes, there, something in the stillness. "Vampire," he concluded, tone laced with satisfaction.

"No, and while I hope you haven't I won't really worry until you tell me you've made one climax."

The Doctor grinned at him.

Brightly.

"Not strictly a man," he pointed out.

"Truly bizarre creature that walks on two legs, has two hearts, a low body temperature and is in possession of extremely poor clothing sense."

The Doctor's grin stayed firmly in place until the last clause, at which it abruptly vanished. "What's wrong with my clothes?"

"I don't like leather," he confided.

He hadn't told Eric that.

He frowned, surveying his sleeves. "Why not? Very practical material."

"Leather's a lot more durable than you would be." More malleable, too.

"Oh, not by that." Considering the scars he could see, relatively fresh. Big argument in favour of durability. "Still, I suppose if you were properly tanned and cured..."
