Jason was used to the various scents in New New York by now. The cats still sometimes made his nose itch because it was just the WRONG cat scent, so far as he was concerned, but he didn't notice it any more.

So when he came across a new scent, it made him pause, trying to figure out what it was that caught his attention. He thought it might be a were. Maybe.

Glancing up at the sky, Jason started following the scent, doing his best to come up from downwind of the new person. That way, if it seemed more than he could handle, he might be able to get a headstart and run before there was trouble. At the end of the day, though, he couldn't control the wind, which shifted just as he caught sight of the new arrival. So he pulled himself up to his rather unimpressive full height and started forward. No reason to hide now.

	No reason to be hostile. Wary, certainly, but no more or less than Lucian seemed. When Lucian came closer, sniffing him out, Jason took the opportunity to do the same. A crease formed between his eyes, brow pulled down by the odd scent. "Werewolf," he replied, still watching as well. "Lycanthrope, if you want to get real scientific about it." 	"You're not," Lucian replied calmly, despite his confusion, "Lycan." There was something else about his smell, though, now he could smell him up close. More discreet but no less present, a smell that clung to Jason rather than was his. A smell as close to that of a Vampyre as Jason's was to a Lycan's. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"I'd prove it to you, but not being able to really talk for the next several hours would be a pain," Jason replied, smiling a bit. "I think this may be a difference in worlds thing. Not being able to talk for the next several hours? Could he not change back? Lucian straightened up, looking into Jason's eyes as he spoke of several worlds. So the insane time lord was telling the truth.

"Werewolves are a legend, and Lycans are real," although hidden from public knowledge. "Where I'm from," he added, echoing Jason. "What is this place." A question, although not so much entoned as one. He was much too used to wielding authority.

	He shrugged, shaking his head. "No idea, honestly. Some place outside of worlds and outside of time." He pointed toward the sky. "There's a sun and a moon, but they aren't real. They provide light, but there's no pull. Especially not the moon." Then the rest of it seemed to catch up. "So what's the difference between a Lycan and a werewolf?" 	Jason grinned at that, then nodded back the way he'd come. "There's a hotel here for the people who get pulled in from other worlds. 	Lucian waved that topic away with a hand gesture. An instinctive reply after so many years spent hidden. Foolish. "People get pulled here," he repeated, then forced himself to stay his questions. Jason grinned back, turning on his heel and doing as asked. He didn't even bother to hold back, running pretty well flat out toward the hotel. He did slow through the lobby, mostly not wanting to run over anybody. There was, of course, the scent of vampire in the lobby, though not recent. Given that the sun was up, it wasn't surprising to Jason in the least. But he didn't stop until they were out the other side of the hotel, tacking to the right and into the woods outside the old town.

Lucian had no problem keeping up with the... werewolf. Such an odd thing to wrap his mind around, but it was getting wrapped all the same.

This was better than being dead. Running at full speed with a distant kinsman. If only Sonja were here, but he had not given up yet. He would not until he had explored all of this world.

He stopped right behind Jason, looking around and breathing in. "Even in here, it feels off," he commented, before looking back at the werewolf. "I'm not sure which question to ask first."

An admission of doubt was a rare thing coming from him.

	Jason nodded, picking a fallen log to sit down on and stretch out his legs. "Yeah. The whole place feels off, but this is closer, somehow. I prefer it because its quieter." 	Jason thought for a moment, because he'd met lots of people and there were always scents. After a few moments, though, he shook his head. "I'm sorry, no. I only know of three vampires here and all of them are male." Which wasn't to say that Lucian might not be from Mitchell's world, but he still didn't smell quite right for that, either. 	Hope was an awful thing to have shattered, especially hope of such magnitude, but Lucian swallowed it back and took a deep breath. His whole body seemed to deflate, more than relax, head hanging for a moment. "All right. Thank you." He looked up at Jason. "Tell me more about how this world works, then." "That doesn't mean she won't end up here." He could offer that much, at least. "This place is..." Jason pursed his lips, considering what needed to be said. "All right. Let's start with the basics. The city is called New New York. I think it's longer than that, but that's usually enough. I've been told you can find pretty much anything you want there and so far, I believe it. Things are also free, so you don't have to worry about money. Possibly in exchange for being stuck here."

No, he couldn't live with that kind of hope. He walled it off in a distant part of his brain, something he couldn't let go of, but something he could not, would not live with day after day.

"This is a place where you supposedly get everything you want?" he echoed. Wrong. Wrong in every way, the concept itself, as well as its realisation. Sonja wasn't here, after all. "Why are we here?"

For such a gift, as some might view it, there had to be a price to pay. Nothing was ever free.
