Where: The hospital wing
When: 08 September, 1995
Status: Complete Log.
Katie was starting to get really bored. Angelina had left and now Katie was just sitting and twiddling her thumbs. It was early enough in the term that she didn’t really have much in the way of coursework to do yet (not that she was really inclined to do it, even if she had) so she didn’t even have that as a distraction. Sure, Cormac was still in the hospital wing, so she could talk to him, but she was getting tired of pointing out how taking bets for money when you’re already filthy, stinking rich was really stupid. It was to the point, really, where Katie was thinking very strongly about just going to sleep. Except she had a feeling Madam Pomfrey was going to be giving her another blood replenisher in about an hour and that was just enough time to make sleeping more of a nuisance than it was worth. So Katie just sat, staring at the ceiling, and making up a dramatic life story for Pomfrey in her head. Eddy was beginning to think that she needed to invest in some new friends. School had barely started and already two of them were in the hospital wing. Because that was a brilliant start to the year really. Not that Eddy knew really what had happened to Katie, outside of what she had been told. At least this time was not her own fault, like it had been with Cormac. Really what had he been thinking? It was a wonder that he managed to survive this long with a stunt like that. Of course part of it was Cal’s fault, so she was cross at him too. But what it meant was that yet again Eddy was walking into the hospital wing even though she really hated it. Healers bothered her and even though Madam Pomfrey was perfectly nice on occasion Eddy still did not want to be anywhere near her in case she caught sickness or injury. Because that could happen, or something. “Oh, you’re awake.” Eddy offered as she walked up to Katie’s bed, taking a seat in the chair next to it. “I had wondered if you might have passed out cause, well, blood and all.” “I did that for a little,” Katie remarked with a bit of a shrug. “And then Angelina came and others, and I’ve been fed a number of blood replenishers, so I’m feeling pretty good right now...but she won’t let me leave. So mostly I’m just bored. It gets really boring sitting in here, did you know that? So thank you, thank you for coming and visiting. It’s lovely to be entertained.” Katie really was feeling a lot better, and she was fairly certain she looked it, too. “Practice was a disaster. I mean, I know there’s occupational hazards with Quidditch, but...today was just awful.” “I think they’d probably recommend that after all the blood bit.” Eddy offered, looking around at the infirmary for a moment. She had spent way too much time here for the beginning of the year she could tell that already. “I’m glad I could be of help though. I’m told that I can occasionally be amusing.” she added with a smile. That was quickly evaporated when Katie mentioned practice. Her nose scrunched up at the thought of it. “Just what happened? I mean I wasn’t there, so I don’t really know. But I’ve heard some rather interesting stories. I’m pretty sure the one the second years are telling is a complete lie and they know it too.” “There’s not even that much to talk about, so I hope the second years are telling thrilling tales of dramatic dueling and Umbridge casting hexes or something,” Katie remarked, shrugging again before grinning. The smile lasted for a moment, while she imagined what that would look like, before it fell again, because what had actually happened wasn’t really amusing at all. “The Slytherin team crashed practice. Were loud and obnoxious, as, you know, they’re apt to be. But it really got to Ron...he could barely throw the damn quaffle, let alone save any...threw one at my face, hence the bloody nose.” Katie paused for a moment, sighing and shifting around on the bed a bit before continuing. “I should have known better than to take anything from Fred and George, but they offered me something to clear up the bleeding and next thing I know, it just wouldn’t stop and well, here I am.” She really should have known better than to take anything from the twins. “Well it had more to do with some hippogriffs but that works too.” Eddy offered for a moment before listening in on what actually happened. Quidditch was not really something she paid much attention to outside of the games themselves. But nearly bleeding out was not really one of the usual things to happen. She frowned slightly when there was mention of the Slytherin team crashing practice. Tensions seemed to already be all the way up there and the year had only just started. It was a precarious place to be, fond of so many that seemed to be solidly on some ‘other side’. The taunting and threats from both sides really was not helping either. Frowning, her lips pursed as her eyes narrowed. “The twins made it worse? What kind of daft thing were they thinking?” she huffed. Though really sometimes she could not help but think that the Weasley’s did get the shot end of the brain stick. Hitting people with quaffles and then making them nearly bleed out. Morons. “I’ve half the mind to go and hex them right now. Think they’d mind being glued together?” While Katie knew deep down that it wasn’t really the twins’ fault, she was still feeling a little resentful, so the idea of them being glued together was really, really appealing, and she couldn’t help but giggle. “I think they’d mind loads, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. Though then it would be the two of them together all the time which well...wouldn’t be that much of a change, all things considered.” “I think they meant to give me something else than what they did, but oh well. The perks of magic right?” Katie asked with a small smile before sighing again. “It’s barely been a week and we’re already at each other’s throats. Can’t we at least get a practice in before getting sneered at? Is it really too much to ask?” Not that Katie really expected Eddy to have an answer to that. After she thought about it, really hexing them probably would not be the best idea. Not only would she get in trouble but it would mean having to test any food she ever ate for the rest of the school year at least. Which would just be really draining really. “You know I’m not even sure if they’d notice, to be honest. Bit unhealthy that, being always together. Attachment issues or something.” “They best have been meaning something else!” Eddy insisted. Though with the twin’s penchant for experiments. Well, getting sorted into Gryffindor with them about should almost require a waiver. But she sighed to match Katie, her shoulders slumping. “Don’t I know it. Driving me mad, really. I mean schools barely started at all. We should still be on a holiday high or something.” “Apparently holiday highs don’t exist anymore,” Katie remarked, shrugging slightly. It wasn’t really that surprisingly, was it? After all, with the way the year had ended and everything in the prophet...was it really that surprising that everything was heightened and people were already at each others’ throats. Still, Katie was already tired of it, and it had only been a week. “Well, here’s hoping it gets better, right?” It was a false hope really, wasn’t it? That people might actually not be trying to destroy each other already. One of them had died last year and it seemed like all it did was make it all worse. Who knew how this year was going to go if it kept on like this. “It’s a shame. I like holiday highs. Though mine’s a bit gone with all the hospital wing visits. Between you and Cormac I should get like a season pass or something.” Shrugging slightly she gave Katie a bit of a smile. “Yeah, sure. Maybe. Even though it seems like the new defense teacher is as loopy as any of the others. But at least I’m not in her class.” Katie sighed loudly. “She’s terrible. She’s really terrible. You should be glad you don’t have her for class, Eddy. We’re not going to learn a damn thing all year, which is going to be really helpful when it comes to NEWTs next year...” At least she wasn’t taking them this year. There was always the hope that they’d have a new instructor next year. That did seem to be the pattern as of late. “Anyway, I wasn’t stupid enough to eat a pound of doxy eggs, so I should be out of here tomorrow, I think.” |
