Upon reaching medical, Carson and Sam took Paul through the infirmary, back to the isolation room where they had kept him before. At the door, Paul hesitated for just a moment before looking over at Sam, who nodded to him. Nodding back, he walked over to the bed and sat down.
Carson, meanwhile, stood there watching, his heart pounding in his chest. Part of him didn't want to do this - not after seeing what he had done to Cait, almost killing her and their child. But at the same time, Paul had come back of his own accord. He was asking that they use the retro-virus and make him human again. And the truth was, they needed to know that this new batch did indeed work. He owed it to Atlantis to put his feelings aside.
"I'll be right back," he said, hurrying to the lab down the hall where he go the retro-virus out of the refrigeration unit. After looking at it for a moment, he went back to the isolation room. "All right. We're going to need to strap you down."
Paul nodded and laid down so Carson and Sam could do up the bindings. Once they had him ready, Carson made up a syringe and took hold of Paul's arm. As he pressed the needle to his arm, Paul looked over at Sam. "Remember your promise. No lies about who I was."
Sam nodded. "I promise."
Carson injected the retro-virus into Paul's system, and after a few moments, he shook before his eyes rolled up and he went limp. Swallowing, he put the syringe into the hazard waste bin then checked his vitals.
"He's just unconscious. I'm not sure how long this will last. Until the transformation is complete probably," he told Sam.
"I'll stay with him a bit," she said.
Carson nodded. Once he had Paul hooked up some monitors, he then left medical and went down to find Cait and Rodney. The moment he saw his wife, he went over and pulled her into his arms, telling himself that it was going to be fine, that Paul had promised, and he wasn't going to hurt her again.
