The months following Laura's death was hard on all of them. It was difficult to watch Rodney dealing with the death of his wife. But they couldn't stop what they were doing and life moved on for all of them. All they could do was be there for their friend whenever he needed them, and make sure he knew they were there for him no matter what.
Much to Caitlin's happiness, Sam agreed to make Tim the co-head of the bio-systems department. Now that she was going on in her pregnancy, she needed all the extra help she could get. Plus, she was helping Carson more and more with their own project concerning the Sangui enzyme. She was very excited over what they'd found so far and was looking forward to continuing the research.
Since they'd been working non-stop, Sam made them take a day off, saying if they didn't, she would have Jennifer go in and take away all the lab's equipment. Not wanting to test Sam, they decided to go to the mainland for the day and fish in the river. So after packing a picnic, they took a puddle jumper to the mainland and landed near the river.
"This is really beautiful," Caitlin commented as she looked around. The trees were green with leaves and there were several different flowers growing in the nearby field. It looked like something you saw on a nature program.
Picking up one of the poles, Caitlin waved it around. "I apologize ahead of time if I get my hook stuck in you," she said with a sheepish smile. "Now, I just push this button and throw, right?" She pressed the red button on the pole's reel and jerked her arm. Of course, the hook, which had no bait on it anyway, didn't go toward the river. Instead, it landed somewhere behind her.
Turning around, Caitlin looked around. "Where did it go? I didn't get it caught on you, did I?" she asked.
