Following Cait over to the couch, Carson sat down with her. He wanted to hold her hand, but since she folded them in her lap instead, he leaned against the back of the couch and watched her as she started to speak. He knew that she needed to get this out in her own way.
And as she spoke about deciding she hadn't wanted another baby after the miscarriage, he nodded slowly. That was why he hadn't broached the subject with her again - he didn't want her to feel pressured about a choice that she had already made. He knew he'd never understand everything she had gone through despite everything they had discussed about it.
But then, she said she did want to have a baby with him, and Carson felt his breath catch in his throat. She did...? The confusion was obvious in her voice before she even said she was, but he understood.
Squeezing her hand, he looked into his eyes. "Oh, Cait, love," he said softly. "I...I've been thinking that I want to have a baby with you too. I just didn't want to...I didn't want you to feel like you had to after what happened, so I didn't bring it up, but..."
He took a deep breath and drew her closer into his arms, wrapping them tightly around her. "I would like nothing more than to be the father of your child. If you want to try, let's try."
