John didn't want to let Fred go for the rest of the night. He knew it was silly in a way because she was there and she was fine as was the baby, but still, after the loss of Weir, it was hard to look at all this rationally. So he was grateful for Teyla's help, and he knew he'd be indebted to Rodney for the rest of his life. Even if the other man was insufferable at times, he was a good man and what he had done showed that.
The next morning, John stayed with Fred as she went to medical, watching in awe as Jennifer showed them their child on the ultrasound. It was apparently too early to tell what gender, but it didn't matter. There he or she was, inside Fred.
After breakfast, they headed for the Operations conference room to watch the video Fred had shot. As they did, John reached under the table and took her hand, holding it tightly. He blinked in disbelief as what seemed to be a scene right of Jurassic Park took place and knew that after this, there was no way in hell he'd ever be able to watch that movie again.
When it was mercifully over, John looked at Fred, but before anyone could really say anything, Ronon was talking about a legend that Teyla apparently knew as well.
"So you're saying you know this Del-Dale-Dahl...that?" John asked, waving toward the screen.
"The legend says that some of the ancients brought it here many, many years ago," Teyla explained. "Some say it was an attempt to preserve the last of a dying species. Others say it was to punish criminals. All we knew is that after the ancients passed on, the legend became simply that - a story used to frighten children."
John looked over at Fred and Rodney. "Brought here?"
"I'm really never going to be able to watch Jurassic Park again," Rodney said, shifting in his chair.
