Darkness. It beckoned her now like the way a saucer of milk beckoned to a hungry kitten. Jessica didn't want to mainline. She didn't want to drink Tru Blood or act like one of them. All it ever brought her was ridicule. Jessica wanted to be a vampire. She wanted to be like Eric. Like Pam. She wanted to be free to be who she was and what she was. She was more powerful than them, but that didn't make her hate them. They were different than her now, but she didn't want to wipe them off the face of the earth. And she didn't want to kill them to eat either. She didn't have to. But that was what they didn't get. And now, on her night off, she was sitting in Merlotte's with a couple of people sneering at her and all she wanted to do was melt into the seat and be ignored. It was better than being hated. Even if the indignation she felt made her want to condemn them all for just being idiotic morons. They were no better than the kind of vampires that they seemed to fear. The kind of vampire they thought she was. At least when Jessica fed she made the people feel nice afterwards. Left them with a nice memory instead of being feasted on. Instead, she sat there and waited for one of the waitresses to come to her. She probably could have gone anywhere else, but for now, she came here in order to get a quick bite. Apparently she was going to be stuck with Tru Blood until later. She could stomach it, she just really didn't like to. But she ordered one anyway, running a hand through her red hair and propping her chin up on her elbow as she waited. Part of her wondered if this new waitress would take the time to make sure she knew she was unwanted. Another part said that she worked here, damn it. If nothing else, she could get her own damn Tru Blood if it came down to it. Sam wouldn't mind. Hopefully. |
