Loki had discovered that this world wasn't his own remarkably quickly... though, technically, he'd known that before he'd ever allowed Locke Donner to exist. He just hadn't given himself the opportunity to look into how truly different it was. From his research (which involved some time spent at the Stark exhibit in the Barton museum) he discovered that it was, mostly, the same as his own world with just a few differences here and there. The Avengers still existed, Tony Stark, his company, and his massive ego still existed. There was, however, no sign of Doom or the Fantastic Four, very little mention of Spider-Man. What stuck out the most, however, was just how young everyone was. Yes, the Avengers had existed and had been disbanded, yes, they had lost two of their most prominent and influential members but it all seemed to happen in the blink of an eye. They didn't have the long storied history he was used to back home. They didn't even have the same revolving members. Hel, they hadn't even been around long enough to have revolving members.
The relative youth of everyone in this world compared to his own meant that the witch responsible for his former imprisonment was very young herself. The Wanda of this world was, indeed, quite powerful. She was capable of enchanting and entire town but it was a far cry from the reality altering powers of his Wanda. If Loki had really wanted to he could've resisted the enchantment, this Wanda was powerful but her powers were nothing compared to what he was capable of. Loki, however, had been bored. He'd wanted to see where this went and had been confident in his ability to break out of it whenever the mood struck. He hadn't expected to be accidentally freed by this world's Stephen Strange.
Wanda was powerful but untrained and, likely, unaware of what she was doing. If Loki had been a few years younger this would've appealed to him on a number of levels. Wanda (and Billy, though he didn't really exist yet) was a wellspring of chaos magic. He could use that, slowly siphon it off until there was nothing left while bolstering his own magic. He could sit back and watch as she lost control of the people and her illusion of a perfect family crumbled while he stole her powers for himself.
Fortunately for Wanda, however, he was no longer that Loki... or maybe he just wasn't that Loki yet. The problem with being Loki was that, tragically, inevitably, no matter what he did he would always end up right back where he started. His story would always end the same. And yet, Loki was hopeful. This was a new world. He could be whatever he wanted to be here, whoever he wanted to be. He could do the right thing and be a better version of himself. One that Verity or Billy and the other Young Avengers, or Thor would be proud of.
Speaking of which... there was a very big, very blonde obstacle standing in his way to becoming a better Loki. Thor wasn't really a threat while he was wandering around as Nolan. This humanized version of a version of his brother was more interested in caring for injured animals or making heart eyes at Captain Rogers' best friend. Loki would've preferred to keep it that way and, perhaps, he would've gotten his wish if that damned hammer hadn't show up. Mjolnir had the potential to free Thor and ruin everything. He had to find a way to keep the other away from it but that was easier said than done. Loki had never been able to lift it as himself.
Still, he was a new Loki. Perhaps a new Loki would prevail where an old Loki had failed. Perhaps he and the good he'd tried to do would, finally, be seen as worthy. At least long enough for him to pick up the Norns damned thing and toss it into his magic bag for safe keeping. It didn't hurt to try.
Leaving his apartment, skipping the horns and Asgardian leather in favor of the jeans and tee combo Locke occasionally preferred, he made his way straight to Nolan's place. He was glad that the human he'd been masquerading as was similar enough in personality to himself that he didn't have to pretend to much. He rang the doorbell numerous times (mostly because he liked the sound) before pounding on the door (out of impatience). "Nolan! Open up already! I know you're in there, you're too boring to be anywhere else." He teased, grin wide as he reached out to ring the bell once again. "Come on! Let me in before your darling baby..." He had to stop himself there before the word could roll off his tongue as it so usually did when he was teasing Thor. This was not his brother. Even if Nolan had been Thor he still wouldn't have been Loki's brother. The Thor he was trying to keep locked away wasn't his own and he was only doing this out of fear. He'd been rejected too many times not to try and protect himself in some way. He cleared his throat and tried to pretend everything was normal. "Open up before your darling baby cousin catches cold!"
