He had managed to find his own apartment not too long ago. It was… odd and Leo hadn’t quite been able to figure out what sort of person he was. He seemed to have a certain fondness both for astronomy and for plants as his apartment had a few plants he didn’t quite recognize growing in pots as well as a few herbs hung up, presumably, to dry. There had also been what looked like a cauldron sitting, unused, in a corner, and vials of different colored liquids he hadn’t dared to investigate further. Without his memories it was foreign enough to feel unsettling, almost as if he were trespassing, so “Leo” preferred not to spend the night there on his own. At the most, he had been dipping in to grab clothing or water his plants before setting off again for a space he felt more comfortable in. He had been sitting in one of those more comfortable, more familiar, spaces while texting “Gabriel”.
“I’m heading out!” He called towards the back of the, frankly, larger than it should be apartment. He didn’t wait around for a reply as he bundled himself up against the cold and set out into the night. One probably wouldn’t come anyway. Knowing “Bambi” he had probably fallen asleep while reading to his little one. The toddler was the real reason Leo kept coming around the apartment. The boy seemed to have formed an attachment to him and it felt wrong to just abandon him because he didn’t care for all the noise that seemed to come along with an apartment full of teenagers.
He pulled on his gloves and adjusted his hat before stepping out into the cold night air. The elementary school wasn’t far. It was only a matter of minutes before he was approaching the school and then heading around the back towards the playground and the swingset. He took a seat and waited, certain his vampire friend would be along shortly.
Louis looked up at the sky as he walked, noting the moon's current phase and silver light that spilled over everything around him. How beautiful it was. The elementary school came into view and he went around to the back where he saw Leo already there. "Hello," he said upon approaching the swing set where he sat in the empty one next to the other.
He looked up as someone approached and flashed Louis a warm smile. “Hello.” He greeted, honestly glad to see the other. He did miss the other while he was off exploring his own apartment or checking in on his brother and “Bambi’s” little one. “How has your night been?” He asked. He was eager to tell Louis about his own discoveries and, maybe, invite him over to the apartment. Rummaging through his own things had felt odd and a little wrong, but , maybe, having Louis around with him would make things easier.
“I told you I found my apartment, right?” He asked. “I didn’t mean to keep it a secret from you or anything if I hadn’t. I prefer staying with you but… if you would rather I spend time at my own place I can.” He might as well give Louis that option now that he was mentioning the apartment. As he spoke he moved just enough to swing lightly in place as if he was feeling things out a little, seeing just what he was comfortable with.
The vampire really had nothing more exciting or eventful to share. He'd only been up a few hours. The beginning of his day so to speak. He toed at the ground beneath his feet a little not swinging, just moving slightly. He looked up at the moon once more unsure of what else to say. He felt awkward and doubt kept creeping in along with other emotions that he wished would go away.
He watched Louis for a moment, noticing the other’s silence. It was probably a little unfair of him to expect the other to carry on a conversation with him when he would’ve just woken up. There hadn’t been much time to do anything. Regulus had his whole morning behind him even if he had tried to spend some of it napping so he could stay awake longer. “I think I can give you a little more information about myself now. Still no actual name but I haven’t dug too deeply. It feels like I’m standing in a stranger’s home most of the time. I thought, maybe, if you wanted to come with me one night we could both look around?” Was he always this dependent upon other people or was it simply because he liked Louis?
Not sure of what else to say he looked up at the sky, eyes moving from the moon to the stars in the night sky. He inhaled sharply, stopping his swinging in order to lean a little closer to Louis. “Look…” He murmured, pointing to a particularly bright star in the night sky surrounded by a group of stars that weren’t quite as bright. “That particularly bright star right there. That… that’s Sirius.” For some reason the star’s name brought a mix of emotions with it but he pushed past it and focused on the fact that, maybe, he actually did like astronomy and maybe some things weren’t lost forever. “I um… really like stars, I guess.”
"I would be happy to go with you to your place and help you look around if that is what you wish. Perhaps a friend would help to make it feel not so strange as if you were going through someone else's things." He didn't have much to go through himself. He had found a locket that held a photograph or perhaps a painting of a child. He felt great sorrow upon looking at it but didn't know why. He had put away, choosing not to look at it again for the time being.
Louis turned his gaze to the heavens where Leo was pointing. "You should make a wish on it." Yes, he knew it was falling stars that one traditionally made a wish on, but why not this bright beautiful star? Maybe the wish would actually come true.
“Thank you.” He said quickly, glad that the other was so willing to accompany him. He had worried that it might seem like an odd request but the vampire seemed to understand. “If you needed help going through any of your things I’d be willing to help as well.” Louis didn’t seem to have too much though, almost as if he hadn’t been around for very long. Which made little sense if Regulus was his blood donor. The two of them would’ve had to develop some level of trust, right? That couldn’t have come about too quickly.
“I’m not sure I would know what to wish for.” He admitted, deciding the idea wasn’t odd or silly. Why shouldn’t they wish on bright stars as well as shooting ones? There wasn’t a great chance that they’d come true anyway. What did it matter which star they used? “I suppose I would wish that you could watch the eclipse with me or that we could spend more time together in general.” But barring some sort of magic or a big change in Regulus’ sleeping habits that wasn’t likely to happen.
Didn't most have something to wish for? It was a little odd that Leo had said he wasn't sure, but then he spoke again and Louis felt the emotional strings of a heart he didn't have being pulled. He shifted to lean over and take hold of the chains that held the swing Leo sat on, turning them so they crossed and he was now facing him. Louis then leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to the corner of his mouth. "Thank you. That is so sweet and thoughtful. I may not be able to watch the eclipse with you, but we can spend more time together." He gently righted Leo's swing and smiled at him.
As himself there were probably a number of things Regulus would wish for but each of them were, seemingly, as impossible as the wishes that immediately sprang to mind that night. Without some sort of miracle they simply weren’t meant to be. He looked up curiously as Louis took a hold of the chains of his swing. For a moment he wondered if he had said something wrong or if it was just a little too much too soon so he was a little surprised when Louis leaned over and kissed him on the corner of his mouth. Regulus smiled shyly, heart fluttering just a little at the affection. He had the distinct feeling that affection of any sort was incredibly rare for him. “I would like that.” He said, after a moment. “You’ll have to give me a bit to get used to a new sleep schedule but we can make it work.”
It wasn’t like Louis to do something like that. He felt that, but in this moment, well, it had felt right and good. He was going to try and not overthink it. At least Leo hadn’t pulled away or yelled at him. He would be more mindful. The last thing he wanted to do was to upset him or have him pull away from their blossoming friendship. “Hey,” Louis said softly, taking on a bit of a more serious demeanor, “I don’t expect you to change your sleeping schedule for me. You have a life to live in the daylight. If you want to stay up later with me a few nights now and then I would like that. But don’t feel the need to change your schedule.” That wasn’t fair to the other something he would never ask.
He was probably going to end up overthinking the kiss, he just knew it. It was probably best to stop thinking about it now before he did something silly like tell Louis he was more than welcome to do that more often. “I don’t have much of a life in the daylight.” Regulus admitted. “I have a younger brother whose name I can’t remember but he should be in school during the day. I visit with Bambi sometimes because my brother lives with him and his toddler seems to like me. I don’t think adjusting a sleep schedule would change anything. I don’t think I have to worry about a conventional sort of job.” Really, he just wanted to spend more time with Louis. “Your suggestion isn’t a bad compromise though. I could stay up later with you a few nights a week.”
He paused for a moment, chewing on his lower lip as he wondered if he could bring the blood donor thing up now. It was probably best to get that out now while he felt like he could mention it. “And, you know, if you were still interested in me being your blood donor… I’m willing. I want to.” He wasn’t going to turn Louis away again.
The topic of being his blood donor surprised Louis a great deal. He wasn't expecting at all and believed it was something they wouldn't discuss again. "Oh, Leo." The vampire smiled softly at him. "I only want it if it is something you truly want." He had lived off the blood of animals for a long time as he held onto his humanity. He still did in many ways, but over time he'd turned back to feeding off humans. Unlike many vampires he'd never sought power, glory or to stand out. That simply wasn't who he was. He'd accept that he was a vampire, but part of him would always remain human. "I want you to do what you're comfortable with. I still want to be with you no matter what you decide."
While he had been a little worried about bringing the subject up again he was glad to see Louis reacting positively to it. He turned to look at him and smiled. “Gabriel…” He murmured. “I want to do this. I promise. I wouldn’t have brought it up if it wasn’t something I had been thinking about a lot recently. I was just worried you didn’t want that anymore.” He was glad he had been wrong. “Just let me know when you want or need it. I’ll be happy to help you.” He still wasn’t sure what to expect from a feeding but he was sure he wanted to do this.
Louis just wanted Regulus to be very sure. Though he would have no problem if they tried and the younger man found he didn't like it. "I can't drink from you everyday unless I take the tiniest bit. I think three or four days a week would be sufficient. I can have animal blood the other days." Maybe human blood. The vampire knew himself. Once he started drinking from humans it was hard to go back to animals. They were just different. "Why don't we start next week? Maybe Monday or Tuesday. Now we swing. I bet I can go higher than you!" He laughed, kicking off the ground and pumping his legs.
He listened to what Louis said and nodded. That made the most sense. He wasn’t sure how much Louis needed to eat but a nightly thing would leave him completely drained. “I would be willing to let you do it three or four times. Whatever you think would be best for the both of us.” Louis was bound to be a better judge of what a human could handle and what they couldn’t. “Next week then.” He agreed. It would give him a little time to mentally prepare. While he wanted to do this for Louis it was still a little scary. He nodded and turned away, focusing on swinging. “Oh? Is that a challenge, Gabriel?” He laughed. “Careful. You could be playing with fire. I might be very competitive.”
