Jane Shepard was nothing if not persistent. So, she'd ended up in some magical land, by means she couldn't possibly understand, with her crew mates showing up human. So, her partner of the last three, hellishly long, years showed up and got sent back. So, she was plagued by crippling nightmares that had been leaving her more and more exhausted. That didn't change the fact that, every day, she got out of bed, took a shower, and put her damn boots on. She had to keep going, and it was just that simple. The fact that she'd been able to make a few friends, outside of Garrus and Tali, had been helpful. Jane wasn't the kind of woman who leaned on people very often, but Sam had been there when she had. Sure, Jane had spent the next week or so kicking herself on the inside, but that was normal for her. She was Commander Shepard. She was supposed to be a symbol, supposed to be strong. Hell, Jane wouldn't have been surprised that, if a C.O. had shown up, even in Storybrooke, he would have told Jane she should have been able to best anyone in the town. They wouldn't have even cared their were Gods here. That was just what they expected of her. Tugging the tank top over her head, Jane reached down to tighten the laces in her boots. It would be good for her to go out for another run, with people. She'd mostly taken to having them, as well as the rest of her 'down' time, to herself. It wasn't like her to be anti-social, or even reclusive, there had just been a lot that needed dealing with, a lot she couldn't have handled without some time to think and have quiet. Now, however, as she jogged down the series of stairs from her apartment, Jane felt excited. It would be good to see Sam again. Though she'd never have admitted it, Jane had been checking over the network for any signs about him or Danny. Sure, she was a bit withdrawn, but that didn't mean she didn't care about her friends. Of course, tonight she was getting to meet someone new, so that was exciting as well. The last time they'd gone out for a run with Doctor Carol Marcus, Jane had quite enjoyed their little chats about science. She wondered what this Alex would be like. Pushing out into the fall air, Jane almost shivered. For a brief moment she kind of longed for environmental seals, a suit, or something to keep the crisp chill off her skin. Once it had settled though, with Jane bouncing on her toes and starting to get her blood flowing with some, pre-running, stretches, Jane felt much warmer. She glanced around looking for the people she'd be meeting tonight and took a brief moment to tuck her dog tags back down her shirt. She was really looking forward to this run. |
