To say that Paige had been surprised, dismayed and a little beyond shocked would be normal for anyone who had just been passed through some kind of portal immediately after returning home for the first time in a long while... if Paige was normal and portals weren't such a usual occurrence in her life as a mutant at Xavier's Institute for the Gifted. Instead, since she was a mutant, and portals were such an often occurrence in her world, the surprise was minimal, the dismay had nothing to do with the portal, and the shock was pretty much nonexistent. Showing up in an odd little world where people were... fairytale inspirations was all she could really come up with... did strike her as a little fantastical, however. The town–Storybrooke–was nice, though, from what she could glean from it. And just this morning when she'd awoken from her short sleep, she'd decided that she'd better get to know the town, inside and out. Part of it was because she'd be running at all hours and she didn't figure she needed to get lost. The other part was sheer curiosity and the need for food. Her stomach had been rumbling for an hour or so and the stipend the little mutant had received when she arrived was good enough that she could find a nice little place for lunch and figure out her next move from there. Paige Elisabeth Guthrie didn't really work well on an empty stomach anyway. As she made her way through Storybrooke slowly, taking in each building, each business, each street name and where they turned into back alleys and the like, she started to kind of like the place's homeyness. It was small, like her own town in Kentucky. Places like the bait shop, florist shop, diner, bed and breakf- wait... Diner?! That had Paige stopping in her tracks and her stomach rumbling again. Okay, yeah... maybe she should stop and eat like she'd planned on doing when she first started out. Hell, maybe they had an opening that she could take advantage of if the Sheriff's place didn't work out in her favor. Right now, the food the place served would work just fine for her and her favor, so she changed direction and headed for the little gate that rounded the place. Lord knew it was cute... but she assumed that was part of the appeal. Pushing open the door, Paige took in the quaint surroundings until her stomach, once again, interrupted her thoughts. Geez, who would have ever thought a small girl like her would have a stomach as loud as Sabretooth? Stupid hunger. It wasn't like she didn't eat breakfast... she just didn't eat a big breakfast. But she'd fix it now with a big lunch. Taking a seat, she picked up the menu and began to look. The place had a decent selection and Paige could see herself eating here often once she got a job and could afford it on a regular basis. The only real decision she faced at the moment was what to pick... and how much. She could put it away like she was a bottomless pit, but she pretty much blamed her mutant metabolism on that. Who knew what kind of calories she was burning every time she ripped off skin and kicked a little Brotherhood butt? She didn't, but she could only imagine... after all, the girl could eat. |
