The divorce happened when they were less than two years old but I suppose that they may need some time and space to talk now that they are older. He would be supportive considering the fact that he attends therapy regularly and he knows that it would help them deal with an absent mother.

She could be sought out once one of them shows signs on needing someone to talk to.
