Who: Andy and Alec
When: Friday, June 11
Where: Andy's room
What: Andy's got something Alec might want
Rating: PG-13 for use of weed
Status: private/incomplete

After Char had left scathing notes about the stink of the room on the mental notepad last time Andy had been out, he'd made a few small changes to his habits. He'd cobbed together a window seat that was relatively level with the bottom ledge of the window in his room, wide enough to sit on. A small table was nearby, a highball glass filled with drink already poured. A small tin box held his weed and papers, also on the table, as he sat on the bench with the window wide open. His legs dangled out, and he'd pulled the window out enough that he could sit in the open space.

He lit his first of the evening, celebrating a relaxing day by relaxing a bit more. Drawing the smoke into his lungs, he held it, letting the lassitude begin before he exhaled and reached for a drink.

"It's a job. It pays pretty well and I pretty much get to do what I want. It's not as if I would be dealing with fewer idiots in another work environment, and mostly they leave me alone anyway. And it could be interesting." Alec shrugged, shifting to swing his legs out the window. "It wouldn't kill you to fall from this height." He sounded almost disappointed.

"I find I like my life more when it's less interesting," Andy mused.

He followed Alec's gaze, down past their legs to the ground. "Probably not. If you really want to kill yourself, go up to the top of one of the skyscrapers and leap off. You'd get that sensation of flying right before the death." Glancing over he added, "Can't see why you'd do it, though. Seems a waste."

Alec shrugged. "Can't see why I wouldn't," he responded. "Except that it's so overwrought and melodramatic."

He sighed. "I meant interesting as in challenging. Most things... most work I get paid for in any kind of legitimate way, although I'm not sure how legitimate this is, is dull. What I do, what I enjoy, is more of an avocation than a career path, but now I'm getting paid to do what I actually enjoy. I guess I'm on my way to achieving the American dream, only this place doesn't have a white picket fence and what exactly does point five children look like, anyway?"

"Makes me think of bible stories, and cutting the baby in half," Andy commented, gesturing with the glass. "But I don't see the appeal of children to begin with. And you don't sound like the white picket fence type anyway, so since you're getting what you want, just sit back and enjoy the ride."

"I shudder to think of what might happen if I passed on my genes. Not that there's much danger of that, is there?" Alec smirked. "What type am I, then, in your estimation?"

"Not given where you're putting them. Or not putting them," Andy allowed.

He took the question seriously, turning again to draw one foot up and rest it on the windowsill for balance as he leaned back against the frame. He took a long gulp to finish the glass, then set it aside, feeling the warmth well enough in his body and not needing to waste the scotch by drinking it when he already had a halfway decent buzz going.

"Snarky. Too intelligent for your own good. Standoffish. Probably the radical loner sort."

"I'm better off on my own. Otherwise I just end up with everyone hating me anyway." Alec shrugged. "What about you? Where do you stand on picket fences? You already said no children, which yeah, I don't see why anyone would ever want any. How egotistical must you be to think that your genes are worth passing on?"

"How do I even know they're my genes?" Andy countered. "Situation's complicated, and who knows what the biological truth is."

"Mm, true." He started to laugh. "What if it was a mix of all of you?"

That struck Andy at just the right humor, and he couldn't help but laugh as well. "We could get ourselves pregnant... we've got Char. And God, can you imagine how long that'd take? Only out a quarter of the time... would she be pregnant for three years? Ouch."

"Either that or it would be the first ever case of a man being pregnant. Or three men. Can you imagine? What if the rest of you changed but the baby stuck around?" He laughed, but there was a slightly horrified edge to it. "I think Mickey's head might explode if that happened. Maybe that's why he won't let anyone so much as touch Char."

That gave Andy a moment of horror as well, and he shuddered at the very thought. But he had to shake his head at Alec's conclusion. "That has more to do with Char liking guys and Mickey waking up next to a guy he know fucked him the night before. Just can't deal with it."

"So I learned," Alec said ruefully, rubbing his jaw, although the bruise was gone now. All of the marks were gone now. "He doesn't like waking up next to a guy who his body fucked, either. Although I suppose I could have been nicer about it. Don't poke volatile people with sticks and such. No pun intended."

Andy swung his feet back inside, turning on the bench to face the table and open the tin. He took out a wrapper and carefully rolled a new joint. Lighting it, he took a drag and held it, holding it out to offer to Alec.

When his breath slowly slipped free, he said, "Imagine what it's like, waking up with someone who uses your body in ways you don't like. I let it go. But he doesn't."

"He needs to learn to let go of thinking of it as his body," Alec said, taking the joint. His next words were breathed out a few moments later with a plume of smoke. "It's not his body when you're in possession of it. It's yours. I mean, he fucked up and now you're there so don't you have as much right to live your lives as he does?"

"Biology again. Is it still his and just looks like us? Is it our DNA in here? Just how far does it all go?"

"I'm pretty sure his DNA isn't going to mutate and make him gay if Jimmy gets laid," Alec said. "Honestly."

"My point was more about who owns the body. He was here first, but right now, possession being nine tenths the law and all that, it's mine. But I can kind of see his point." It wasn't a though that appealed to Andy much either, but he could handle the separation of who was who, when.
