Entry tags:character: alec tremont, character: andy johansen, character: mickey o'hare

Who: Andy and Alec
When: Friday, June 11
Where: Andy's room
What: Andy's got something Alec might want
Rating: PG-13 for use of weed
Status: private/incomplete

After Char had left scathing notes about the stink of the room on the mental notepad last time Andy had been out, he'd made a few small changes to his habits. He'd cobbed together a window seat that was relatively level with the bottom ledge of the window in his room, wide enough to sit on. A small table was nearby, a highball glass filled with drink already poured. A small tin box held his weed and papers, also on the table, as he sat on the bench with the window wide open. His legs dangled out, and he'd pulled the window out enough that he could sit in the open space.

He lit his first of the evening, celebrating a relaxing day by relaxing a bit more. Drawing the smoke into his lungs, he held it, letting the lassitude begin before he exhaled and reached for a drink.

Alec was just coming in from wandering aimlessly, figuring that he might as well enjoy the decent weather while it lasted. It would surely be raining again soon enough. He tipped his head back, sniffing the air, and smirked when he caught a whiff of smoke. Very distinctive smoke.

He looked around, and finally up, where he saw a set of legs hanging out the window. "Don't jump," he called up. "Or if you do, leave me your stash in your will, yeah?"

Andy heard the call and looked down. "You'd have to pry it from my cold, dead hands, and since I'm not jumping, that'll be a while. C'mon up if you want to join me. The scotch is halfway decent. Amazing what I can get away with buying on the budget." He raised the glass and took an appreciative sip.

"I'll be right up," he said. Alec went into the house, stopping in his room to grab a bottle, then to the room that he thought of as Jimmy's, regardless of who else might inhabit the body most of the time. He tried not to think about how many days it had been since Jimmy had had the body... it wouldn't take him anywhere good. There were drugs and alcohol in the offing, and that would make everything just fine.

For a while, anyway. But he couldn't really expect more than that.

He entered without knocking, shutting the door behind him, and joined Andy on the bench he'd created, setting the bottle of Maker's Mark between them. "I've never found a scotch that didn't taste like fellating an Ent," he said, by way of explanation.

"You go down on many trees to test that out?" Andy asked, laughing at the image. He tilted the glass, looking at it, then shook his head. "Guess I like wood after all." Raising the glass to Alex, he added, "No offense," then drank.

He took in a long drag from the joint, then held it out in loose fingertips to Alec while he let the sensation absorb into his bones.

"None taken," Alec said easily, taking the joint. The smoke burned his lungs, but it felt good as it seeped into his system. He handed it back and poured himself a glass of bourbon, sipping it and leaning against the window frame.

"So what's your role in this... comedy of errors?"

"Role?" Andy twisted around enough to lean against the side of the frame and look over at Alec more comfortably. "Which comedy of errors is that?"

"Take your pick, really." Alec took another sip of his drink. "The X-Men thing that's going on in this building, the timeshare that is your head... either or, or pick something else. I'm flexible." He smirked.

"Always like comic books, but never thought I'd be in one, unless I had a terrible chemical accident," Andy mused. "Since I don't get to play with the chemicals anymore, that's not likely. I leave that hero shit to Mickey."

He silently asked for the joint back and took another long drag, waiting before he spoke again. "We have roles in my head? That's news to me. I'm the one who buys the beer."

Alec cocked his head. "Don't you? Mickey is crazy, Char is the one who knows what's going on, and Jimmy is in complete denial. N'est pas?"

"Didn't know we were so well-defined. I'm just Andy. And you're Alec, Jimmy's computer-geek friend. I'm the chem-e, to go along with the architect, the geek, and the music major. I'm also the oldest." Andy shrugged, offering the joint.

Alec took it, inhaling slowly, watching the tip glow and holding his breath until he couldn't anymore. "Am I?" he asked. "It's just how I see you, I suppose. It seemed a bit self-centered to define you all in relation to me, in which case it would be Mickey hates me because Jimmy fucks me and Char likes the playback."

He took another short drag, then offered the joint back and watched Andy through slitted eyes, looking for a reaction.

"Char's lonely." Andy shrugged. "It's not like she's making vids of the memories and selling them online. But don't worry, not going to hit you. Not going to do anything like that with you, either, though. You're not my type."

"Pity," Alec said, then laughed softly. "You're not really mine either, cute though you may be. If I have a type. I suppose I do." He shrugged.

"So how did you end up caught up in all of this... that... Mickey?" He waved his hand vaguely. "Are you obsessed with your... oh, what did I call it because it's apparently offensive to say real?... autonomous self as Jimmy is?"

"I take it big annoying intelligent brutes are more what you want?"

Andy took back the joint and took a small drag, leaving enough for Alec to have one more if he wanted. "I was the first one. We were drunk, and Mickey was doing this thing where he walks into people, synchs himself up, and reads a thought or something. Party games. Next thing I knew, I woke up in his bed when he was home for Thanksgiving break. Wasn't fun, meeting up with myself after that." He shrugged. "I'm here. There's another me out there doing something or other building shit that makes the world go round. In Rhode Island, I think, or Jersey. Can't remember which, and it doesn't really matter much."

"Party tricks." Alec snorted and finished off the joint. "It's all fun and games until you end up with voices in your head that periodically take over your body."

He poured himself another drink and drew one knee up to his chest, wrapping his arm around it and propping up his chin after taking a swallow. "I don't think he even likes me," he muttered.

"So what do you do? Or did you do, since it's hard for any of you to do anything now?"

"There's a reason he doesn't like to walk through walls much, anymore. One was dealable, two was a mistake, and three wasn't planned at all. It gets crowded sometimes. This," Andy raised the glass, then drained it, "mutes it sometimes."

He grabbed his bottle and poured himself another drink, holding it loosely in his hand. "We need a ping pong table, and some good beer. You've played beer pong, yeah?" Leaning his head back against the window frame, he considered both what Alec had said, and the question after. "Chemical Engineer," he finally said. "Got my masters, on my way to getting my PhD when this shit happened. I was doing research in new ways of recombining recycled plastics for durability and to clean out the impurities. Got high on the fumes in the lab." He grinned. "Made it worth it."

He took a sip of the drink. "Can't speak for what Jimmy thinks; he keeps himself pretty much closed off. But why do you think that?"

"Because I'm an asshole," Alec said simply. "You went into chemical engineering to get high on fumes?"

"Can't argue that," Andy agreed. "At least from what I've seen and gotten notes on. So's he, sometimes. Certainly is to the rest of us in here."

He snorted. "No, that's a handy byproduct. I like it. Working with things that make other things. And I've got a head for it." He tapped the side of his forehead. "I remember chemical equations, heat transfer, see the places where things fit together. Which doesn't help anything here, but was handy when I was trying to take tests while still drunk from the night before."

"He wants to be himself. He wants his other life." Alec leaned down to peer out the window. "He can't have that, and can't accept it. He didn't even know me, when he called me in. The other him did, and it's only because he hacked into Auto-Jimmy's life that he knew of me at all."

He shrugged. "It might still be useful. You never know. I was never much good at chemistry. Or I was good at all the wrong sorts... I liked the kind that blew things up and necessitated the evacuation of the building. I didn't mean to create mustard gas... or did I?" Alec grinned.

"Where did you go to school?"

"So. You're friends with the other him, and now you're here and can be friends with this him. You're right about the not accepting it thing, though. He hates that he wakes up as one of us." But there wasn't much Andy could do about that accept life as it was.

"RPI. Bethlehem for high school, but RPI for everything after that. Got myself in and didn't bother to leave, since I found myself an advisor that liked me and didn't mind the still in the lab." Andy grinned. "And sure, if we need me to deconstruct plastic, I'm on it, but I don't think we've got the resources here to do the kind of work I was doing. Hell, not even sure how it'd apply."
