Who: Zadkiel Thrush and Ganesh Surendar
When: Friday, May 21, 2096, evening
Where: Anhalt Building
What: Zadkiel has been avoiding social interaction, but Ganesh won't let him.
Status: Closed, Complete

After the disastrous meeting with Gabe on Monday, Zadkiel had mostly been avoiding everyone in the house. He got up early to go to work, and came home late. When he was in the house, he stayed in his room. The last thing he wanted was to upset or offend anyone else, and it wasn't as if he wasn't used to feeling isolated from the people who surrounded him.

In a way, this self-imposed exile felt more like home than anything had since he'd arrived in Seattle.

"I felt like that myself after I left Pablo," Ganesh agreed. "I used to think I was wrong to do it. Leave, I mean. I missed the warmth and simply not being alone. You do get used to it."

He walked over to Zadkiel's bed and sat on the edge of it, looking up at him companionably. "Three cousins? Were you part of a big family then or was it just you and your parents? I was an only child."

"My whole family is big," Zadkiel said. He hesitated, considering what the risk might be to tell him a version of the truth. He hated not talking about them, though. "I have five sisters. I'm the youngest. Then there was all of my cousins. It was a full house. Controlled chaos, most of the time."

"Aren't all houses?" He grinned at the other man. "It must feel moreso with five sisters. My mum had two mouths- I can't imagine living with that times two and a half."

His eyes widened, but he didn't comment on the two mouths. "It was a little annoying sometimes, since the older ones all thought they were my mother as well. I got bossed around a lot."

"My parents owned a grocery store," Ganesh remembered, swinging his legs off the side. "It was constant bossing. Mum going on and on- one mouth would tell me to stock the cereal while the other was yelling at me to sweep. She got a bit ahead of herself sometimes."

"Did you end up with a lot of chores? If I'd had siblings, I'd have made them do it all." He patted the bed, folding his legs up so that his bare toes were sticking out. "You should sit down."

"It was a farm," Zadkiel said. "I grew up on a farm. Chores were constant, and a way of life. What else was there to fill the time? The girls did indoor things, mostly, and the boys did outdoor chores. You couldn't get away with shirking for long; your siblings - cousins - would take it out of you if you made them pick up your slack."

"I've never even been to a farm," he laughed. "With..." Ganesh paused to think of what a farm would have. "Goats? And... ducks?"

"We didn't have goats," Zadkiel said. "We had sheep, ducks, chickens, cows, but never goats. I don't know why."

"Did you milk the cows?" Ganesh looked even more curious than before. "And the sheep? I mean, did you shear them- I don't think you milk sheep." There was a slight question, however, in his voice.

"You can milk sheep," Zadkiel said. "We didn't, generally, but you can. And yes, I milked cows and sheared sheep. I mucked out barns and repaired fences. I planted gardens, and sowed them later. I miss it."
