JT sat at one of the side tables in The Other Side, holding a cup of tea in both hands. He was happy that Tom had decided to met with him, and felt a little bad that the "neutral ground" he had picked was actually someplace he worked, but wasn't going to worry about it too much. He had been thinking about the meeting all week but had managed to not tip off Pam that anything was off.

He had arrived a bit early, but still checked his pad for a message from Tom saying he needed to cancel or something.

	"Hey!" Tom flopped into the chair across from him, a jumble of graceless long limbs and good nature. "I thought I was early, but I guess not? It's okay if you already got the worm, though. "More than likely, yes. The way we look at it, Maxxie's already known. I've never made a big point of hiding it, either. So we're targets, but we refuse to be victims. This gives us an opportunity to do something positive."

He leaned forward, propping his elbow on the edge of the table. "Anyway, at least for me it's kind of hard to resist. Just because I want to know what happens. Y'know?"

"I don't trust them, but I don't distrust them, either. They're government, but at the same time, they're going against the rest of the government, so they're taking a risk as well. I doesn't seem like they would like it much if we exposed who was funding us, right?"

He paused, considering. "The man didn't say a word that I remember. Katherine... I'm not positive of her motivations, but this goes against her voting record, so there has to be something deeper there. I hope it's not a trap, but if it is, can we really escape it, no matter how far or fast we run? By saying that she can't be trusted just because she's government, that's kind of doing to her what the government is doing to us, isn't it? Me and Maxxie us," he amended, remembering JT's taking offense at the implication that he had any connection to the Wild Cards.

"The other woman, well. She's rude. Other than that, I don't know."

	JT nods in thought, "Yeah, I guess you are right. I just reacted badly to how it was handled, and the bitch's tone when addressing us. I felt very lost during that whole event." Tom's grin widened. "Depends who you ask. If you ask me, yes, Maxxie and I are friends. I'm not sure she'd say the same." One shoulder lifted and dropped. "We've known each other since the beginning of last school year. We had a psych class together and ended up having to interview each other. I just kind of haven't left her alone since."

He shifted, managing to bang his elbow against the edge of the table. He grimaced. "Ow. I agree with you, by the way, that it could have been handled a lot better. But maybe they don't know what they're doing any more than we do?"

Tom looked around, but no one seemed to be paying them any attention. The flicker of caution that had come into his eyes fled as quickly as it had come, and he seemed at ease with the question. "Yes. She can teleport, and I can stop time."

He cocked his head, studying JT for a moment. "You really have no connection to the Wild Card at all? No friends, no family, nothing? Not to pry. Just makes me wonder why they chose you, y'know? You're probably wondering the same thing, though, huh?"

JT squinted in thought at Tom, and then shrugged and leaned forward to confide in him (after all, he'd just shared one of his secrets). "Not really. My brother is some kind of scientist that studies them, er you, sorry. But I've not talked to him in over a year. I don't know how that helps though. He's a norm too."

"Stop time, though? That's cool." He looks a bit envious.

Maxxie came in with a bag slung across her body, over her shoulders, and her hair curling around her face, wisps having slipped from the braids that held it back. She dropped the bag on the floor and nudged it out of the way under the table before she settled into an empty chair. "I cleaned out my locker, and I canceled my plane ticket," she said to Tom, then she looked at JT and smiled. "Hi."

"Not everyone there was an Ace," Tom said. "Although it seemed like maybe the majority was. It seems like, from what we've been told so far, they're looking to set up a sort of coalition. Like, 'Look! These Aces and Jokers and Nats are all getting along! Can't we all?'" He let out a slow breath. "You could always ask to speak to her. Katherine, I mean. Or we can ask." He gestured between himself and Maxxie.
