"Okay, woke to a grocery list... goes like this, duty and death..."
Who: All characters who received a black envelope.
What: First meetings or rather, distractions.
When: May 8th, 3 pm
Where: Anhalt Building, 1005 E. Roy Street.
Status: Open; in progress.

Nobody remembers Fred Anhalt anymore.

Like its architect, the Anhalt Building has slipped away from the public mind, even of those who walk past it. If a passerby stops to look, it's simply because they see another cracked window or because a phone rang in their pocket. No one ever rings the bell. No one ever goes in.

Perhaps this is why the door is unlocked when the first entrant tries the handle. The sound of the door swinging inward echoes into the empty corridors. The lights inside are warm, welcoming, uncharacteristic for a building that Seattle thinks abandoned. A faint scent of ammonia filters in from the hall. The corners are all well-swept. There is nothing here, beyond the age and cracking of the wallpaper, to remind anyone that the Anhalt was lost to history not long after its making.

There is only one unlocked room, however, and that is on the first floor. A long table rests in the center with exactly ten chairs.

There is nothing on the table, no sign that this is a meeting, but there is also no question that it is nothing but. For one, the table takes much of the room - a cocktail party would find its members casting uneasy glances at that table that is both unassuming and dominating.

"Silence," Mickey said.

"Power." Ganesh added. "We all have skills, if not literal power." He glanced over at JT. "Even you can't deny that."

JT looked incredulous, "Sure, I can whip you up a latte or a slippery nipple in no time flat."

"A what?" The words slipped out as Maxxie leaned forward, just a bit, bouncing on her toes. "You can't possibly be saying that your only worth in life is to mix drinks, can you?"

JT scowls at her, "No, but that' all I really can do, right now. I think I've got some time yet."

"Of course," Tom said. He laid his hand lightly on Maxxie's shoulder blade, just for a second. "So what exactly did your note say? What convinced you to come, when it probably wasn't convenient?"

"I'm going to go check the other doors again," Del said to no one in particular. He'd leave the thinking to the thinkers - there was little doubt in Del's mind as to his ability to assist on why the selected players in the room.

Folding up his letter, he walked back towards the door and out into the corridor.

Ganesh heard the other man's voice before he saw his fingers reach out to take the letter, folding it up. He walked after him, pausing at the door to watch his trail.

Do I follow? It seemed as if allowing any one of them to leave might set off a chain reaction. But what was there to keep them together?

Del took four steps out of the door, then turned around as a thought struck him so fast and hard, he had to act on it.

He came back in to the room with a running start and, worn soles of his shoes perfect for the motion, dropped his body down in mid motion to slide right underneath the table. There wasn't many places to hide, but the one place he wouldn't automatically be able to see was underneath something.

Ganesh dropped without hesistation. He hadn't seen down the corridor and Del's swift motion told him everything he needed to know. This was trouble and even if the trouble was false, it was better to be a fool than a dead man. Which was what he'd be if there was something in that hallway.

He shoved himself closer to the table but not near Del, his face craning around to look at the other man.

Del slid his hands against the underside of the table. "Hey," he said without turning to look at the legs moving close to him. "Check the chairs - see if there is a key underneath any of them or instructions or anything. HA! So busy trying to knock out who everyone is and what shit means, we didn't LOOK at the obvious!" he cried out brightly as he slid out gracefully from under the table.

"You-" he said, absolutely startled. "You-" Ganesh just let the sentence drop, crawling over to the table and running his fingers under the lip.
