Who: Alec Tremont and Jimmy Banks
When: Sunday, June 13, 2096
Where: Jimmy's room
What: Alec has something to give Jimmy
Status: Closed, Complete

Alec went to Jimmy's room and knocked on the door. He'd seen him, and hid from him, earlier in the day. He'd spent the day trying to decide whether he wanted to see him, and whether he was drunk enough, or sober enough (he couldn't decide which was better), to face him.

He'd finally settled on sober, and showered and changed to make himself presentable. He waited for the door to open and thrust a small box at the other man. "I made you something," he said. "I've been drunk for two days."

He hadn't shut the door yet, so he kicked it now, nudging it roughly with one toe to close behind Alec as he looked at the cranes. They seemed more delicate on his palm, the antithesis to his build. "You're giving me a present for your birthday." A date displayed on the screen inside his mind, scribbled in Char's handwriting, and he nodded at that. Once in a while it was useful having people inside his head. The instant recall of data was always useful, despite the cacophony of constant music and information.

Jimmy sifted through things left behind in his mind, sorting through bits and pieces of information, setting up alerts and letting others go. It gave his conscious mind something to do while his subconscious stewed on the thing set before him, still on his palm. He set it down carefully next to the laptop still open on the desk. "Thanks. I'm not going to destroy it."

"You can. I would. It's stupid."

He took half a step forward like he might try and take the gift back, then pressed himself back against the door frame. "I give people gifts for my birthday. Because I've survived another year, and they've put up with me for at least part of it, so they deserve something. I know I'm not easy."

"You haven't given me something before." It was half-statement, half-question. Jimmy was certain he'd have written something about it, if he had, and he didn't remember seeing it. "I'm still not going to destroy it. Figure there's a lot more putting up with you I've got to do, right? If we're going to be working together here."

He gave Alec a narrowed look. "Is there a reason why you're trying to merge with the wall? That's--" he stopped before saying that it was Mickey's schtick, not wanting to refer to that at all. "It's disturbing." Which was nothing less than truth. He had no memories of how he'd come to be here, but he had a good idea from sifting through other things he'd found in his mind, and reminders weren't pleasant.

Working together. Right.

"Not before, no," Alec said. He looked up at Jimmy, forced himself to make eye contact, and took half a step closer so he wasn't against the wall anymore.

This was stupid. This was quite possibly the stupidest thing he'd ever done. He didn't care if people liked him. He didn't need anyone else.

"I should go?" It came out a question when he didn't mean it to.

Jimmy looked over at him, confused. "What? No. Sit down, if you want," a hand waved towards the bed, "or stand. There's--" he looked at the window, and the bench that had appeared since the last time he remembered, and he frowned faintly, "--a window seat."

He pushed the chair he'd been using in at the desk so it wasn't taking up space, and sank onto the bed, leaning back on his hands. "Thanks for setting up the privacy network around here. Just can't manage the time to get anything done, seems like."

"It's what I'm here for, isn't it?" Alec went and sat on the bench Andy had created, his fingers wrapping around the edge and holding so tightly his knuckles were white.

When he realized what he was doing, he forced himself to take a breath and release his grip. This wasn't him. Whoever this was, it wasn't him, and he hated it. He hated being tongue-tied and finally he just blurted out what he'd been thinking for days. "I hate you. You make me stupid."

Jimmy blinked. "What? How do I make you stupid? And if you hate me, why'd you--?" he gestured at where the crane lay on the desk next to the laptop.

"Not hate like... hate." Alec opened his mouth, then closed it. He leaned forward, his elbows on his knees, his fingers clenching and unclenching uselessly. "I just don't..." He frowned. "How much do you know about me? Really?"

"You're an arrogant bastard with few to no interpersonal skills or relations," Jimmy said. "So I'm not entirely sure how hating me is different than how you relate to anyone else, including me." He frowned, looking over at him. "You don't particularly like people, and you have no issues with letting them know that."

He couldn't say for sure, since he was only going off of what he'd read in descriptions, but he added what he thought was true. "I've never seen you nervous like this."

"Because I don't get nervous like this," Alec snapped. "This isn't me. My head's all fucked up, and it's your fault." He glared at Jimmy. "I've never let anyone fuck me twice. No one. Ever."

"Do you want to go for three?" The words were out long before they were considered. "Look, I'm available. I'm here, you know me, I'm not threatening, and we're good in bed. I'm not operating under any illusions that just because you've let me fuck you twice, we're having anything like a relationship."

Hard words for Jimmy, who was the sort who'd prefer a relationship. Who wanted out of this head so he could go off, settle down, do the job he liked with a consistent man in his life. But he'd figured out long ago that that didn't work quite as expected. Not here.

Alec laughed, a short, bitter, slightly hysterical sound. "You don't get it at all, do you?" he asked. "You are the biggest threat I've come up against in... I don't know how long. Ever, maybe. You've got me knotted up, spun around, and I don't know whether I'm coming or going and whether you want me to... and you, you, you..." He shook his head. "Shut me up. Please shut me up."

Jimmy pushed himself up to sit on the edge of the bed, moving slightly so he was on the edge closest to the window seat. Holding out one hand, he spoke before he could reconsider. "Get over here."

Alec shook his head, but reached out and put one hand in Jimmy's, getting up and moving to the edge of the bed. His breath caught in his throat and he just stared, waiting.

"Shut up already." Jimmy reached up, dragging Alec down to him, mouth closing over his.

He was quiet then, or at least there were no words.

After, he pressed his lips to Jimmy's neck, his hand resting on his chest, pale on dark. "Don't fall asleep," he whispered. "You'll lose yourself."

And I'll lose you and I couldn't stand it right now. "It's quiet," he murmured. "You scare me because you make it quiet and it's like a drug..."
