What the heck is my damn brother!? SAM?! [attn: Xanadu ]
Jo's number was in Dean's phone. He told her he would get the supplies needed, to keep in close contact, call him every hour and if he didn't hear from her, he was gonna hunt her down to make sure she was okay. He needed all the trusted hunters he could find with him.

This was, this was just so .... Dean was getting flashbacks of the place down below. Screaming, blood, fires, terror. Dean reached next to him, taking another drink from his bottle of whiskey. Keeping a buzz seemed to keep him going. He needed flame throwers or lots of bottles like the one he was drinking from.

And then there was Sam. Dean grabbed his phone and instantly, in speed dial, he punched the number for his brother. "Sammy, you better answer," Dean grumbled as again, his car hit another zombie that tried to rush out at him. He winced, not for the body but for his car. Lucky, his car was made of metal, not the cheap plastic stuff they were made of now.

"Sam, please ... pick up," Dean half pleaded as he heard the phone ring.

Xanadu sat in the loft. Alone. She'd hadn't called out to Sam to see if he was okay, she didn't want to hear the chorus of hungry undead answer her in return. When she'd heard the sick thud of Sam's body landing below, she flinched. Her cheeks were slick and salty with tears.

The phone rang. Xanadu almost dropped it. She opened it and pressed the button she hoped was the correct one. She put the device to her ear and whispered into it, "Hello? Is someone there?"

It certainly was not Sam's voice.

Dean swerved to avoid another group of zombies and he swore under his breath. Had to get fire and more ammo. They were gonna need more than he had in the trunk. God help them if these bastards ever turned from eating and to shooting.

He then heard the phone pick up and a voice was whispering. "Sam?" though he knew it was not Sam. "Who is this? Where is my brother Sam?" He asked.

Xanadu hesitated, unsure how to answer his question. With the dozen or so undead in her store, being blind she couldn't be any where near certain of their number, she wasn't sure it was a good idea to attempt her rescue.

"I'm so sorry Dean. Your brother was bitten. He said to tell you it was good seeing you again. We're trapped in my shop and he didn't make it."

She held her breath, unsure if she was prepared for a response. The seer half expected him to hang up.

When he didn't she added, "He was very brave."

Dean's heart sank instantly at the words that his brother was bitten. His jaw tighten and the rest of what she said was nearly lost to him. He didn't make it. she said. No, he refused to believe it.

"Where are you?" He asked. "Tell me where you are and I'll come get you." It would be what Sam wanted and if he was lucky, he could either, find his brother's half eaten body or ... if he became one of them, he might be able to trap him and keep him from getting harmed till he could find something to save him.

Dean never gave up on his brother. Never wanted to give up on keeping Sam from being safe. Even if Sam, gave up on him.

"There are a lot of them in here," she warned. "The shop is called Tea Leaves, but I don't think you should come."

Dean suddenly whipped his car around in the road then gunned the massive car back towards the road he needed to turn at to get to the shop. "I'm on the way there. Whatever you do, don't move, don't make a sound." Salt wasn't gonna help her. If she didn't have a gun, wasn't gonna help her either. So what he told her was the only thing he could do.

"You got a back door to the place? A ceiling entrance? Anything high? Fire escape?" Dean had already been formulating a plan.

"The back door is already blocked off. They came in through the front. There's an upstairs apartment, I don't know if there's a fire escape or not. I'm sitting in a loft that over looks the main floor, there's no other way to get to me."

The voice on the other line hesitated.

"Your brother is also down there, with them."

Dean swore softly, "Okay, sweetheart, listen to me. Don't move, I'm about less than a minute away." Dean drove past the front and swore as he saw the swarm inside. Bodies pressed and fumbling over each other, making that sick sound of groaning. Dean pulled his car into the alley, lucky and glad not to see any there.

"Okay, I see a fire escape, hold on. I'm gonna get you to safety." Dean hung up the phone and got out of the car, going around to the trunk and pulled out a bag and was loading it up. He placed guns, ammo and got the two torch cans him and Sam carried. He shoved the extra in the bag and carried the other.

Dean looked about then went to look around the front. He hid back again, thinking before he dropped the bag then moved around to the front. He then drew his gun and shot the windows out. "HEY!" He shouted. "You ugly bastards hungry. Come get me! I taste good!"

Some of the Zombies turned, two had fallen over from the gunshots to their heads. A moan left them and they started coming out after Dean. "That's it, come get me, you bastards." Dean waited till out of the building then he ran around the corner, grabbed his bag and ran to the fire escape. He climbed up it, turning around and pulling it up. Dean then started going up higher.

Dean then pushed the window up and climbed in. He moved carefully, checking each door. He went to head for the front door when he saw something in the mirror to his left and Dean whirled around and fired, hitting a woman in the middle of the forehead and killing the zombie instantly.

He then moved to look down the stairs, saw on one there. Good. He moved back into the apartment and started guessing where she might be. He pulled out the phone, dialing the number again. "Hey, sweetheart, you still okay? I'm in the apartment above you, I'm gonna get a hole above you and pull you through but when you hear me thump on the floor, tell me when I'm above you."

Dean started stomping on the floor.

Dean's antics were undignified, silly and mildly suicidal but his bravado lifted her spirits. "Go to the end of the hall into the bedroom that's been converted into an office. I think that room sits above the loft."

Xanadu could hear him stomping above but it wasn't directly above the loft. In the meantime the undead below were attracted to the same sound, their interest stirred in the form groaning.

Dean rushed over, down the hall into the bedroom. He then dropped his bag and pulled the ax out from it. Immediately he started hitting the floor, breaking and cutting into chunks of the wood flooring.

He broke through the first flooring then started on the next, privatively cutting through and knowing he was making things worse. He could now hear the groans getting worse. He redoubled his efforts finally getting through.

"Sweetheart, it's me, Dean, hold on." Dean made the hole bigger before rushing into another room and grabbing the sheets off the bed.

As he did, he made a call to Jo. "C'mon Jo, pick up."

Both brothers were so wildly different from one another and Dean's rashness was a welcome distraction. She heard from where he was chopping away at the floor above her and hesitantly felt her way forward.

When the sheets were dropped Xanadu felt for them and grabbed ahold. The sheets reminded Xan of her business partner Inara and she wondered if the companion was alright.

Dean had to set the phone down, "Tie it around you, under your arms then hold on, I'll pull you up. This should work. He hoped it would work. He glanced at his phone, seeing it was still ringing then cursed.

Now he started pulling, "Hold on tightly, just don't let go." He cursed again as he started pulling her up. Inch by inch he was tugging her up till her head was peeking in the hole. He strained as he grabbed her under the arms and pulled her up the rest of the way and he was leaning back till he fell on his back with her on top.

"You okay?" he asked breathing hard.

"Are you?"

Which seemed to be her way of saying yes. Her hand reached forward and she felt his face first, her fingers skimming along his jaw, his neck and then down his arms to his hands. She was checking for bite marks.

"Have you been bitten?"

She started to stand up and familiar enough with the upstairs and walked quickly to her own modest quarters. She pulled the ornaments from her hair, which also meant taking the blindfold off. If he looked close enough Dean would see just a glimpse of charred black before she shut her eye lids. With the ornaments gone she was not so concerned that one of the undead would grab her by the hair so easily.

From her dresser she pulled her hair up in a quick pony tail and found a pair of dark glasses to cover her eyes with. It looked strange with her dress, which she pulled down quickly, not the least bit concerned if he saw her in her skivvies. She snatched a t-shirt, a pair of jeans, a coat and sensible sneakers; the type of clothes she wore when not publicly offering her services as a seer.

"Is there a way out?"

Dean felt strange that a girl would be feeling him up like this, let alone now. Any other time, he might not of minded. That was till he saw the blindfold. Shit. Was she blindfolded as to not get so scared? Did Sam do this to her?.

"Bitten? Um... no," he answered as she got off him and he rolled, grabbing his phone and clicking it closed. He was sure the message on Jo's phone was gonna sound strange in itself. He glanced down the hole, nothing had come up there yet before he scrambled to his feet.

He grabbed his bag over his shoulder and pulled out the torch, his gun now at the front of his pants. The Colt was tucked away at his backside, just in case.

As he watched her move, he waited before following, not wanting to leave her alone. When she took the blindfold off, he suddenly sobered up. Her eyes. They were burned out. Just like the ones he saw who caught sight of Castiel or some other angel in true form. Now this girl, he was gonna have to keep close. Talk to her about her eyes. What she saw.

"Yeah, I got us a way out, fire escape, my car is not far. You are ... blind right?" He moved over to her, touched her arm. He placed his bag down and unzipped it, taking her clothing to shove it in. He then wondered, should he give her a gun? Instead he would give her a knife. He pulled it out and looked at her outfit. Oh this was gonna be hard. He then reached in the bag again and pulled out a leather strap.

"I'm gonna tie this knife around your arm. Just in case." He put the sheath against her skin then tied it to her upper arm. He then grabbed her hand, "Let's go, stay close to me, if you gotta grab my ass to do so, I give you permission." He headed for the window he came in, looking out, then up. It was safe.

For now.

He climbed out and pulled her out as well, "We're going down stairs to the ladder. When we get there, get on my back, I'll take us down, okay? Whatever you do, don't let go."

Xanadu couldn't help the smile on her lips. Was he flirting with her or did he just have a highly inappropriate sense of humor. Regardless it was a welcome distraction, and while trying to escape was perhaps more dangerous than staying in the relative safety of the loft, the attempt gave her hope.

She found his chivalry sweet if not a little misguided. He was like his brother, in that regard, when he pulled himself over the ledge as to not infect her. Xanadu pushed the thought from her mind and continued down the fire escape with him. She heard the undead distantly and felt her way down the stairs as quickly as she could.

Dean helped her down the best he could, a few little stumbles here and there but they still moved. He then stopped at the ladder which went down. He looked both ways, up one end of the alley then down the other. The undead still off around any corners.

He then let go of her hand. "Okay, you are gonna have to carry this for me till we get down." He lifted his bag and placed it over her shoulder. He wasn't gonna take the chance of dropping it down and make any more noise than he had to. He then took her hands and he backed up to her, crouching a bit, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Lock your arm like this." He took her hand to place on her forearm and grasped it tightly. "Whatever you do, just don't let go, sweetheart." He then placed the torch in her other hand.

He paused a moment for more instruction. "I placed in your hand a portable torch. Feel the trigger, pull it and it will blast the fire out. Just point it where I tell you, okay."

He then moved to the ladder, carrying her, "Hold on, sweetheart." He took a few breaths then swung around out to it and instantly started climbing down.

She held on as she was instructed. Sam and Dean reminded her of the heroes from her own world and secretly wondered if they didn't occasionally don masks and fight crime.

Xanadu wasn't sure she liked holding the portable torch while holding on to her rescuer. It felt like a recipe for disaster. She remained cautious and alert for the climb down.

Dean kept looking about, trying to concentrate as well. His eyes kept going down below them, trying to make sure nothing was below them that could jump out. However when he heard a disturbing sound from above, he looked up and his foot slipped on the last rail and he dropped but his hands held on and he made a painful sound as all their weight was upon him.

The searing pain in his shoulder had him clenching his teeth and he pulled his feet back up then dropped down the rest of the way. His feet hit the ground solidly before he peeled Xanadu off him.

He took the can from her instantly sat it down then the bag, throwing it over his shoulder. He grabbed the can and then her hand, starting to run but he skidded as Zombies around the corner. "Shit," he growled then turned and saw another group at the other end. "Fudge," he grumbled again looking about. He pulled her closer to him, gripping her tightly.

Castiel appeared right at Xanadu's shoulder, "You are gonna need to use your abilities."

Dean jerked his head around, "Castiel?"

"Do it now," he placed his fingers to her temple, giving her a view of where the Impala was parked. "NOW!"

Castiel had been known to bend time before. It wasn't difficult with his divine understanding to grasp the long silver strand of Xanadu's lifetime. The modern image of the girl began to flux with the image of the same girl in ancient pagan dress who's image was made more magnificent by glamour.

Xanadu knew where they had to go, but Nimue possessed the talent to get them there. Taking Dean's hand a strong wind blew through the alley carrying the two of them on it, as their bodys transformed into hundreds of dry leaves who weaved past the undead as if they were nothing, transforming into their old selves at the car itself. The angel was gone.

To Xanadu, she had blacked out and recalled nothing that had happened. "Dean?"

Dean had felt something wash over him the moment Xanadu took his hand. Before he could say anything, protest with all his usual bravado and try to do the last man standing show down, he felt warm all over. He was lifted but not as himself. Neither was she. Both of them swirling around in the wind, bumping, caressing, touching then parting. It was like a dance, playful, sexual, tender, he had been mixed with her, she with him, making them one.

Abruptly it ended.

Dean turned his head when he heard his name, dazed a bit at what had just happen. "What the hell was that?" he asked before he pulled himself out of his stumper and grabbed her. "Answer later," he pulled open the car door, tossing the bag in the back then pushed her in. She had to move past the steering wheel as Dean shoved her and got his keys out.

Lucky, she couldn't see to roll the window down, not that one would want to. His baby roared to life and he slammed her in gear, tearing her back in reverse and whipping her out of the alley.

He slammed the car into drive but stopped a moment as he saw a familiar face.

Sam.

Horror. Hurt. Fear all ran through Dean's body.

He slammed on the gas and the car sped away.
