Just After Dusk (Eddie)
John inhaled deeply, letting the crisp night air bathe his senses more completely. It still felt a bit strange to breathe intentionally and irregularly, but he was starting to forget what it was like to breathe constantly.

Tonight he was avoiding most everybody he knew. He hadn't spoken to anybody since Eric found him in the alley and then left him to clean up the bodies. The blood had given him power and energy, but no better an outlet for the unhappy thoughts than he'd had before. He was now simply working to avoid the rest of his blooded family, sure that any of them would be able to tell about his large recent meal and probably would disapprove. He'd only fed on the synthetic drink since, but the live blood had left a soft burn in his stomach, and he was still looking for an outlet to spend it on.

The young vampire walked through the park's trees, just off a path that was just off the main road, senses keen and muscles tensed under a the facade of a leisurely stroll. He was just hidden enough here to walk watch the street without being seen too easily. It was a comfortable place to be.

Like the chameleon, Venom could conceal himself with his surroundings which was a skill that made him a formidable and deadly opponent. Not many knew the expanse of his skill, they weren't details he shared often outside of the battlefield.

Stalking his prey wasn't something new to him, either, but that damned Spider had been very elusive lately. It was a difficult task to draw the Parker boy out of the place he was hiding. Part of him swelled with pride at the knowledge that the Spider was hiding, part of him felt disappointed that his enemy wouldn't come face him openly.

His thoughts on the subject scattered when the vampire wandered into view. The shift of energy caught Venom instantly and piqued his interest. Staying very quiet, the entity watched until John came within the exact area in which he was hiding.

"You make far too much noise, precious," Venom slurped, maw agape with its jagged teeth. It's skin returned to its usual black, showing himself to John.

John looked up without slowing when Venom spoke to him from out of the blue, though inwardly he was slightly startled. He hadn't been keeping as quiet as he could have, but he still thought he'd been fairly alert for anybody approaching him.

He turned as Venom overtook him, halting his walk swiftly but holding his ground without any aggression in his stance.

"You'll have to show me how you move so quietly," he responded amicably. "Especially for such a big fellah."

"If you knew my secrets," Venom slurped, "you wouldn't be interested." It was fact. Secrets exposed people for who they truly were. Let the vampire guess a bit longer. It was much more fun that way.

"You shouldn't be so loud," Venom teased, "Did you not learn stealth? I can teach you..."

He disappeared into the shadows, blending in to his surroundings.

"I could teach you many things..." He slurped.

Venom reappeared on a rooftop, looking down at such a fascinating creature.

The teasing seemed close enough to the good natured jabs John had once traded with his comrades in the army. He smirked at them, then slowly took his hands out of his pockets as Venom disappeared. He located him again quickly enough, then chuckled and surged forward. Humans would have had a difficult time keeping track of him as he nimbly, if not stealthily, ran and left his was up the walls of the same building, landing next to Venom with a grunt.

"I was trained to be a soldier, ground infantry level most of the time. Stealth training wasn't really required," he responded.

"And you cannot say that stealth would benefit you now? This is not threat, precious." It was fact. Venom was at war, but that was not a fight mean for his friend.

"You cannot tell me that such a skill is not beneficial. What would it be, to sneak up on your prey so?" Venom inquired, holding out his clawed hands.

The alien would part with him, it would take a part of John if the vampire would let it. "Yes?"

It grinned and wiggled its tongue, waiting to see what would happen next.

John was still a bit thrown by Venom's odd speaking pattern, but it was almost rhythmic. Very appealing, in spite of or perhaps enhanced by his ferocious appearance.

"People adapt as time and circumstance change," he shrugged, then smiled, resisting the urge to grab the wagging tongue like one would snag a cat's lashing tail. He resisted, though, as he imagined it would probably result in Venom hitting him out of anger or biting him if he happened to taste good.

"Show me, then, if you're willing. I'm always game for self improvement," he grinned.

"Not all, though, share the same heightened qualities as you and I, though. It's an obvious disadvantage," Venom replied with a slurp.

His maw shifted, grin growing wider as John came closer. "If I wasn't willing, I would not have offered. It's just a taste, though. I am unsure of what effect it will have on you." The symbiote needed life. Would it survive on an undead host? Could it pass it's qualities on permanently if it did die?

Venom closed its clawed hands around John's.

Attracted by the power exuded by the other, the blackness began to creep from Venom and over on to the other man. It was just a small dose, a taste of the being. Before too much could cross, Venom severed the connection and waited to see if the alien would take hold.

John's brow furrowed slightly as the gigantic hands closed around his own. He watched as the living shell around the other's human form reacted to him, and crept up him. He didn't feel any fear, almost mesmerized by the way the living, shapeless mass latched onto him and curled around his forearm, coating him with a skin like Venom's own.

He blinked, and suddenly felt the strangest sensation. It was nothing like when Eric called to him, but it was definitely something to do with another consciousness.

Almost immediately, however, the warm mass rejected him, releasing back and snapping into Venom's shoulder, leaving a dark stain where it seemed to react badly to him. John started slightly at the sudden action and change in scenario, and lifted his arm curiously to stare at it.

Then he blinked and looked up at Venom before shrugging. "Whoops. Guess not, it doesn't seem to like me much," he chuckled with a flash of white teeth. "Ah well. I'll keep clomping around, I guess."

Venom watched in delight as the alien tried to overcome the vampire. When it backfired, though, he wasn't exactly surprised.

"Must need a living host," Venom replied. "Who shall take up the mantle when I am no more? Hm? I have none to carry on the legacy." He hoped it would have liked John a little. But he would have to find someone else worthy of taking the burden.

Pulling back, Venom released John's hands. He offered the man a gaping smile and shrugged, "Ah the night calls. Do you feel it too?"

John nodded and then turned his face towards the sky, inhaling deeply and getting a read on the environment. His hand, still marked by Venom's touch, went back into his pocket.

"Perhaps it would prefer me when I've eaten a living thing," he said, shrugging a shoulder. He admired the night with the larger monster. His grin stretched. "I do. Recon we should answer?"

Venom's posture straightened, muscles flexing as his body shifted upward to stand at his full height. Had John not been so tall, the hulking black mass would have easily towered over him. Honestly, if Venom wanted to grow, he could. Not by much more, but he could at least be overwhelming.

Flexing his claws, Venom opened and closed the gaping maw of sharp teeth, tongue lolling out and wiggling thoughtfully.

"Are you suggesting an attempt at penetrating the darkness? I'm afraid you'll find yourself unsuccessful and in a rather large amount of pain. Wouldn't want that for you, precious, no no...you..." Venom said, taking a moment to slurp, "...should not succumb to such things. However the man can do no harm to you."

It was a swift thing, the process of shifting. It was almost as if the darkness were melting away as water would from an overhang. Simply gone as if it had never existed. Where the monster was standing, bits of flesh began to show itself. The process wasn't complete by any means, but the blackness receded to expose Eddie's face, head, neck and part of his shoulders where the clavicle joined the socket for the shoulder itself. The rest was still covered in darkness. He still bore his claws.

Turning his human eyes to the other, Eddie mused for a moment, "It's weird sometimes, the shifting back and forth." His tongue wasn't lolling about, he wasn't slurping in this stage. In fact, in spite of the rest of him being covered he was completely normal where the flesh was exposed.

"Well, I was more referring to the night ti-" John's words hushed as the new transformation overtook the giant monster, exposing the human element that still remained.... in some fashion. He tilted his head, watching closely, then blinked. He'd seen the human face once before, but it had still been so encased in the black mass that it had still looked strange. By itself, a full head on bare shoulders, he actually looked... human. Or human enough.

Though still adjusting to the sight, John offered the other a grin.

"I think I have an idea of what you mean," he smirked, reaching out slowly but confidently to touch Venom's chest. Two fingertips to the clavicle, one to touch the blackened skin and one to touch the exposed. Just for comparison. He let the hand drop. "Do you feel different when you're like this?" His own transformation was barely noticeable apart from the fangs, but it left him more animalistic most of the time. At least, when his fangs were exposed he had usually shifted into the different mindset.

He tilted his head. His instincts from the bloodbaths were still up, and in this form Venom had a very appealing neck. Most of the time he looked too solid to eat, but this neck....

John smirked and snapped himself out of thought, and his eyes from the pulsing vein. It was a bad idea, if he pushed things he would get blood drunk, and whatever indiscretions he hid from his nest, they would certainly notice a rampaging childling. Besides, John was no fool. The skin and face looked human, and the voice was decided more traditional, but who knew what blood laced with... whatever it was, would do to a vampire? The creature itself was a parasite, and had rejected John.

He let his hand drop. "Apologies, couldn't help myself," he winked.

The brush at the skin, the leathery darkness fused at the seam with the smooth flesh, was different. It had been a very, very long time since Eddie had been touched by someone else...especially like that. He didn't count all of the physical fighting he did with Parker. But most of the time it was just himself. And the symbiote, but mostly just him.

He didn't realize he'd both flinched and leaned inward somewhat to the connection. It felt real, in that brief moment, and he lost sight of his goals during that minute iota of time. Once the feeling left him, though, once it was severed he had to keep himself focused and not reach out to stop John's fingers from fleeing his skin. The touch, he craved it. From anyone. Just the taste of it was enough to leave him hungry for more.

Narrowing his blue eyes, Eddie considered the question at hand, mind still fogged some by the action that was now so distant. "Not anymore. It was strange at first, different. But it's a part of me now. I can hear it talking to me, listening to me. It's nothing like anything any human has ever had the chance to experience...like a living skin." A parasite, he wanted to say. But that seemed unfair. It was, after all, keeping the cancer at bay. Without it he was walking dead.

The lean I was detected by John, and it surprised him. He made no reaction, however. He held no illusion that this man was any less dangerous without the fanged face and wet speech. He took a step back ever so slightly, indicating on a more primal level that he intended no harm, just in case. Unusual reactions allowed for unusual responses, after all.

He listened to the explanation, and almost laughed at the description, though he managed to restrain it to an earnest chuckle.

"New presence. Changing you, stronger but different," he nodded, looking at his own hand, which moments before had been encased by Venom's. "I'm not unfamiliar with the concept." He started for another long moment. If anything, according to anybody else, it had taken him too long to adjust, but the sudden conflict of two minds was something he'd struggled with upon rebirth, and thought a great deal on.

The chuckling might have come from John, but Eddie made no move to show any amusement in the slightest. He found nothing about the situation hilarious, or even worth a chuckle. But he wouldn't take that moment from the other man. Humor was different for everyone.

He studied the vampire. They could have had similar experiences, but Eddie was sure that the other man wasn't alive nor did he bear any ability to sustain something like the symbiote. That had been proven. John wouldn't know what it was like having to satisfy the parasite, to know you were a host for a bug with no cure because you had no other choice. The scales were never tipped in Eddie Brock's favor, but he was working on that.

"There is an enemy here," Eddie explained, changing the subject to something easier to talk about. "A Spider, he wears red and blue." He hoped that if John saw the Spider, he could at least capture Parker and hold him captive until Eddie could get to him. And it wouldn't be bad to have another pair of eyes on the lookout. "If you see him, please refrain from hurting him too badly. I want to destroy him myself."

John didn't miss the lack of shared enthusiasm, but although he could guess why he made no attempt to further the discussion either. He didn't particularly feel like angering the being.

His ears perked at the word "enemy", and he listened intently, trying to picture a spider running around in a costume. Then he realized it was more likely one of the 'super' humans he'd been hearing about, and shook his head to clear the more ridiculous image out.

"This place has a lot more arachnids than I realized," he looked out into the dark. He half smiled. "I probably shouldn't draw much more attention to myself, but I'll keep an eye out for him." Actively hunting and attempting to trap a hero would probably not go over well with Eric. Still, earning favor from this beastie didn't seem like such a bad idea either. "He must be very special to you if you don't just want him dead." Destroyed was such a better motivation, and sounded like a lot more fun. People were killed all the time, it was more intimate when you wanted to make them suffer first.

"Unfortunate, isn't it? The surge of Arachnids?" Eddie replied, frowning. His unyielding hate for Parker outweighed anything else in his life. Once he had taken Parker out entirely, he could die in peace knowing he had gotten his revenge.

Eddie hadn't meant the mention of the Spider as a request for John to seek him out in a way that would bring attention to him. Eddie could understand why such attention to a creature like a vampire would not be such a good thing. He wouldn't argue or protest, Eddie wanted no harm to befall John on his behalf. He didn't need that on his concience too.

Flexing a clawed fist in rage, Edward narrowed his crystal blue eyes and glared angrily in the direction of his friend, "He took everything from me that ever meant anything. Destroying him is far too light of a word, I want him obliterated. I want everything he stands for tobe shattered and coated in shame. I want him to suffer the way I've suffered because of him."

Well, this was certainly an interesting change. Venom had always been and acted monstrous, but seeing a real vengeance, spurred on by rage and the lust for pain... that sent a shiver down John's spine, and not in an unpleasant way.

The intensity of the anger rolled off the beast, and told John it wouldn't be a good idea to touch him again. So he resisted.

"You're not so bad. But that other kind of webbing..." he made a face, then shot Venom the look of a beast eager to hunt. He could only resist so much. "Seems like a service to deal with the thing. If you do find help would make trapping him easier, let me know. I can't vanish into the shadows, but I have other uses."

At the mention of the other webbing, Eddie said nothing. He couldn't help what came from himself, nor did he have control over Parker's own web. Everything he had, he had earned from the Spider and it came to him twofold. He was undetectable by the Spider Sense, able to hide himself.

"If you want to join me in the hunt, you're welcome. I'm sure you have some...skills..." Eddie began, offering the other male a small smirk, "...that will come in handy for capturing the Spider. His name is Peter Parker. If you catch him before I do, I would turn a blind eye to any harm that came upon him before I arrived. However I want to be the one to truly hurt him. He deserves any pain that becomes of him. But he isn't easy to capture."

At the smirk, John's own returned, mirroring the other's. He reached out a hand, hopefully slowly enough not to be misconstrued, resting it just where human skin interlaced and became black flesh.

"Don't worry. If I did nab him, it would be for your favor. At the very least it's what I owe you after the meal the other day," the blond vampire chuckled, the fingers on Venom's skin flexing softly before they dropped away. It depended on the difficulty of capture, whether or not he expected another favor in return. But, for now, it was a decent thought. If John stumbled upon the sought spider, he'd certainly wrap the man up for his current companion without expecting repayment. It would be enough to know he was on this creature's good side.

Edward had been about to say something when the words died at his lips. His mouth became suddenly too moist and some found himself swallowing the excess wetness. Then, his lips parted and his tongue glided over the too dry flesh at his lips. John's hand at his skin...it was distracting ... not something Eddie needed and yet he seemed unable to push the man away, unable to sever that gesture of connection.

His brow furrowed and his eyes narrowed as he struggled to get his mind back on track. What had he been about to say?

And finally that blessed and cursed touch fled him and left him colder than he'd been before. Able to get his bearings, Eddie nodded in understanding. "Thanks," he sighed softly. Wether it was in response to John's words or at the severing of the connection, Eddie wouldn't have been able to do on his own. "I wanted to help you."

John's smile flashed truly wicked for the briefest of moments. After all, he'd been an intelligent human, and his sires and mentors weren't fools either.

"I'll let you know if you can. Until then, though, I'll keep an eye out for the spider," John chuckled and winked.

As if to discourage more distraction, Eddie allowed the blackness to overtake him again. He transformed once more into Venom.

Tongue lolling outward as if to taste the air, the beast grinned. "Take care, precious. Until we meet again, hm?"

The large mass of blackness faded into the shadows, swinging up over the lip of a rooftop to get himself back on track. He had to find the Spider. He had to destroy, he had to obliterate and he had to do it soon.
