Not so sympathetic (Sam/Dean/Jen, log, tbc in comments)
Upon his arrival in the City, Sam had found keys to an apartment and a car. He assumed that they had belonged to the previous Sam, but truthfully he didn’t think too much on it either way. He didn’t much care whether or not he had a home but it made things easier to not have to find a new motel every night he supposed. It was just one less thing to worry about.
Dean’s phone call hadn’t garnered much reaction on his end. Though he did toss a few pillows on the bed in his second bedroom. It might be difficult to hide things with his brother around, but he would manage.
Sam had given the address and now he was going over the clues. He’d set up a corkboard in which he’d pinned all of the the things that they knew already. He frowned at it, studying each piece of information and trying to figure out how things fit together, trying to find a pattern that would explain what it was they were hunting.
----
Dean paused for only a moment when he realized he wasn’t going to be sleeping in a motel. He didn’t worry about sleeping on a couch; he’d done it in the past, so this was nothing new. It was strange that Sam hadn’t mentioned living in an apartment, but it could have been a recent development - much like Dinah’s moving in had been, it just happened.
He made his way to the new place, knocking on the door roughly. “It’s me. Let me in.”
He didn’t sound happy, but then he hadn’t exactly sounded happy on the phone, had he? He stood and waited for Sam to answer the door; the go bag had been thrown over a shoulder and was ready. Dean had gone so far as to pick up a six pack of beers and burgers on the way over. He hadn’t exactly eaten much earlier, and while he didn’t feel overly hungry, he knew he needed to eat something.
----
From what Sam understood of the City, a lot of things ‘just happened’ so if the apartment was brought up he had an easy explanation for its appearance. He opened the door and stepped back to let his brother come in.
“So this woman of yours who might be able to help us in finding a lead. Can we trust her?”
They’d had a lot of bad experiences with being on the wrong side of the law and Sam didn’t want to deal with getting slowed down by some well meaning policewoman. He assumed that Dean would know better, but his brother didn’t always think clearly when there was a woman involved.
Sam held out his hands to take whatever he could off his brother’s hands. Once everything was settled, he turned his attention back to the corkboard. If he’d taken note of the change in mood, he didn’t comment on it.
----
Dean just smiled as his brother opened the door. He smiled even more when he realized he wouldn’t be forced to a couch or a bathtub. He walked in and through to the bed waiting for him, tossing his things on it. He turned around to look at the corkboard.
“Jen’s trustworthy.” He shrugged, coming to stand before it. “Damn. We got nothing right now, eh?” He looked over the notes, shaking his head.
“She’s not a bad kid, and she’s got things covered with Dinah’s people, so..yeah.” He glanced at Sam. “Got dinner.” He motioned to the bag o’ burgers.
----
Dinah’s people. As in the Justice League. Sam filed that tidbit of information away for later. He was curious about Jen and how the woman had come to have so many connections. Then again, it was good to have sources.
He looked from the board back to Dean.
“Well, we know that revenge might be a factor. We’ve ruled out some of the usual suspects, and whatever it is has a lot of juice. We just need to figure out what sort of creature feeds on revenge or encourages it.”
He nodded to the bag of burgers.
“Good. I have a kitchen so we can cook those up. So, it’s easier to concentrate on the case somewhere other than home?”
Yes, he had noted that Dean said he’d be staying here. He wasn’t exactly curious or bothered either way, but he was supposed to show an interest. That’s what he would have done if he’d had a soul after all.
