Lindsey chuckled and leaned against the high table where Lorne had sort of stationed their drinks.
So what's the verdict?
Lorne raised his eyebrows at Lindsey, who nodded, made a slightly mocking face at the demon, and walked away to chat with the bartender for a few minutes. With Lindsey gone, Lorne smiled brightly at Lois.
"So how this works, pumpkin, is that I don't see everything. I see things that can set people on a certain path, and I only get some of the picture." The demon shrugged. "Sometimes that's all you need."
He took a big gulp of his Sea Breeze and leaned more toward her. Onstage, a thirty-something guy in a suit was singing an Adele song.
"First let's talk about what I don't see."
He made sure Lois was looking him in the eyes.
"There isn't a guy that likes to run into phone booths and fly. I don't see him anywhere. Now, I don't know how much you know about all that, but I'll bet people here have told you a thing or two. So from what I can see, right now, there's no super hero in your life," he said, face sympathetic, "... and it doesn't look like there will be."
To Lorne, that wasn't at all bad. It meant she got to live her life her way, instead of how a comic book writer thought she should. It meant a different path. Lorne was a big fan of different paths.
"There's not a super hero, but there's a lawyer with questionable morals."
He did not comment on how he felt about that.
"But the issue is there's trouble. With a capital 'T.' And it's coming. And ... it's not going to be fun."
The source of the trouble was fuzzy. Lorne could usually see more than that. And that worried him.
"I don't know what specific kind, and that bugs me. Because usually I DO know those things. Which means one thing, kitten: It's big. It's big and it knows how to hide from guys like me, so that I can't tell you how to avoid it. And I don't like that."
If he had to guess, he'd think someone was not going to like Lois sticking her nose into things, and it was going to bite her. Hard. He knew there were strong, powerful beings here in the City that might do just that--literally. But he knew a thing or two about bad guys, and this felt pretty big.
