Would she cross the street to spit if he were on fire? (Lois)
Dean had been thrown by creatures much stronger than him before. He had felt that stomach dropping rush of flying through the air, and he'd done it while experiencing a great deal of pain. So, his latest bit of monster assisted flight was not new. What was new possibly was the way his hands were injured and how public it had all been. He had caused the damn thing pain, which had felt good for more reasons than the hunter wanted to think about, and he had gotten away, by luck more than anything. Only, Dean Winchester wasn't in any good way.

He hit the wall and crumpled; his Colt had made the trip and thankfully not gone off upon impact. One hand crushed, maybe beyond repair. The other twisted and turned. It was humiliating. He could hear Bobby and Sam both telling him he'd been stupid to take on the vampire alone, but he'd been alone in the street. The damn thing had been out in broad daylight. He could also hear a few others asking why he hadn't admitted that he needed help with this one. Hell, he didn't want to admit the damn thing really existed.

So, he stayed were he was for the moment, trying to figure out how to get up. He also was trying to decide how he was going to make this better, how he could work this, how he could survive with his hands mangled the way they were. It wasn't exactly a pity party for one, but it wasn't a laugh and a gas either. He knew he'd have to get the knife; the idea of attaching the damn thing with some sort of tether coming to mind was not helping his attitude.

"Just get up, you stupid son of a bitch." He mumbled to himself as his eyes started to open.

"You don't look fine to me. Now hold still," Lois said firmly. She put a hand on his shoulder to gently try to hold him in place.

"Where's the blood coming from?" she asked aloud, not necessarily directing the question at Dean.

"It's probably not all mine." The hunter winced as he looked at the mess that was his fingers. "Guy didn't get in too many hits. Just fucked up my hands and threw me."

No, Dean had been the one to cause the damage, stabbing and shooting people usually meant a good bit of blood letting. He might have smiled a little at the thought of it.

"So I should see the other guy?" Lois asked softly, her lips turned up in a slight smile.

She didn't touch the mangled hands, but she did put her own hand on one of the forearms.

"Don't try to move your hands. You're only going to do more damage. Look, I'm going to call for help. Think you can handle sitting still for two minutes while I do that?"

She was glad, at least, that the streets weren't moving right now. It would make it easier for an ambulance to find them if they weren't a needle in an ever shifting haystack.

Dean hadn't noticed that the streets weren't moving quite yet. He'd been a little busy with other things. He smiled a little more at her first question; while he knew he'd done damage, he'd prefer that she didn't go looking for the other guy. He wasn't sure he could save her without getting them both hurt, at least not now.

"Yeah. Make the call." He nodded, though he wanted nothing more than to curl up around his hands after taking a few good hard drugs with a few large swigs of harder liquor.

Lois nodded slightly and then took out her phone. She had to stand up and walk a few steps away to check the street sign for the operator. But once she'd reported the situation, she hung up and turned her attention back to Dean. She was going to stay with him at least until the ambulance arrived.

She still didn't like the guy, but she couldn't just turn her back on someone who was hurting like this. Especially when it happened to be someone who had once saved her life.

"Something tells me this wasn't just some bar fight over a girl," she said lightly.

While it was possible that he'd just been brawling in the streets due to anger issues, her instincts told her that it was something else. He might have been kind of a cocky jerk, but he was a cocky jerk who was also a heroic type. If he was this beaten up, she'd bet a month's salary that he'd gotten in the way of something nasty.

Dean laughed, or coughed and laughed. "You're not getting a story out of it, Lane." He was teasing her to show her that it wasn't as bad as it seemed, even if it was. He just took a deep breath and managed to get in a better seated position.

"No, wasn't over a girl. Wasn't a bar fight. This time I didn't even start it." See, still teasing. He might have started the violence, but the vampire had to have known that Dean wouldn't react kindly to his standing right in front of him. He took a ragged breath and looked at her.

"Thanks, Lane."

Lois had reached out to try to help Dean sit up since he seemed so hellbent on it, but he seemed to have it handled on his own. She pulled her hands back and turned her gaze away from him, her jaw tightening as she looked down the street for any sign of the ambulance. It could definitely get here faster.

"I'm not always after a story," she said. "And you met me for all of-what? Five minutes before you decided that you knew what type of person I was?"

There was a little bit of hurt edging its way into her voice, but she did her best to keep that at bay. She wasn't exactly touchy feely when it came to talking about her emotions and she definitely wasn't going to give Dean the satisfaction of thinking that she gave a damn what he thought about her.

Once she'd gotten control of her voice again she looked back at him with a level gaze.

"Maybe you should rest your voice. Are you thirsty?"

She'd already retrieved an unopened bottle of water from her bag. She uncapped it and held it out to him. She still wasn't thrilled about waiting with someone who clearly didn't think that much of her, but she wasn't just going to leave Dean to suffer on the sidewalk in the hopes that the ambulance would find him quickly.

The hunter laughed softly. He knew who Lois Lane was with or without having met her face to face, which was still a real kick in he head when he thought about it. His lips parted, and he shivered a little with the sips. He grunted softly as a finger twitched, sending pain dancing right up his arm.

"Thanks. If I were a reporter, I'd be like you. Never giving up, always pushing for the story." He grunted again as he shifted again against the wall. It was painful, but he'd felt worse. Didn't make it hurt any less.

"I see a job in everything, almost. You see a story. What good would you be if you didn't?" He just wasn't going to be the story. He shifted again. "You can go, Lane. They'll find me."

Lois rolled her eyes.

"Good to know your people skills haven't improved any since the last time I saw you. I'll wait with you."

He could try to get rid of her all he wanted, but she was going to make sure that he was taken care of.

"Is there anyone I can call for you?" she offered.

Maybe there was someone who should know that he was hurt like this. She didn't think that he'd be using a phone any time soon after all.

Dean had to think about it. Could she call anyone for him? There were a few who would come to look in on him, yet he wasn't exactly sure he wanted any of them to worry. He took a breath.

"Nah. Don't want to bother them." He gave her a weak smile before looking over the street. As far as he could tell no one had been injured during the unintended shoot out, but that didn't mean there weren't any victims. He'd have made her look after the others before anyone ever looked after him; it was who he was.

"Thanks." He gave a quick look and a nod before looking out at the street again.

Lois frowned and shot Dean a 'quit being a hero' look. This did make her think of who she might want to know if she were hurt and the only person who came to mind was Ollie. The fact that the only person who might care if something happened to her in this City was her ex was a little bit depressing.

All the same, Dean had mentioned 'them,' which meant that there were people for him to call.

"I'm pretty sure the people who care about you would want to know about this. And it's not like you'll be dialing a phone by yourself once you get to the hospital."

Finally, Lois heard the sirens wailing about a block away. Which meant that her job here would be done soon.

"I'll think about it. Most have busy lives." Dean smiled slightly, ignoring the 'quit being a hero' look; it just wasn't something he could do. He wasn't even sure anyone could or would come if they were called. He shifted slightly, biting back a pain filled groan.

"I'll get the hospital to call." If he had his way, he'd have it all taken care of before anyone really needed to be called. The hunter shifted again, his head turning in the direction of the sirens. "Looks like you'll be off the clock soon."

He knew Lois was only doing the right thing by staying with him; she was kind of cute for that. He actually laughed softly at the idea of it.

Lois wasn't going to push the issue any further. She hoped that the nurses at the hospital might have better luck, but she'd done her best.

She raised an eyebrow at Dean as he started to laugh.

"What's so funny? Or are you just going into shock now?"

"Nothing." The smile still held a hint of pain, but it was there all the same. Dean watched her for a moment longer before looking away again. "Just damn glad you stopped."

He tried to move his fingers and grunted from the pain. Whatever happened next, he was going to make sure he got a few good pills. Something stronger than the damn alcohol that was for certain.

Lois returned the smile. Was he actually thanking her for stopping?

"You're welcome," she said, even if it wasn't a straight-out thank you.

The ambulance pulled up in front of them then.

"You want me to go with you?" she offered.

Even if he hadn't exactly been the nicest to her, she didn't think that anyone should have to go through something like this alone.

"No, I'll be fine." Dean continued to smile at her. "You don't have to babysit me any longer." He shifted against the wall, his eyes on the ambulance.

"Go ahead. I've done this before." He'd actually done things like this a few times before, and he'd probably keep doing it over and over. It was just how things went for him.

Lois gave him one last uncertain look, but stood as the EMTs climbed out of the ambulance and hurried over to Dean.

"Well, you have my number if you need anything. You can always have one of the nurses dial for you."

She gave the hunter one last look. She stayed to make sure that he made it into the ambulance before she would be okay with going on her way. Even so, she was still going to wonder what happened next, but it wasn't her business.

Sure, she might always be chasing a story but even she knew that sometimes people just needed help without an ulterior motive.
